7 miles from Crater Lake park entrance, 1865 building takes you back in time!

Bedrooms 2
Space 900 sq. ft.
Property type cottage

About the property

2 bedroom, 1 bath, kitchen, living room, pool table, bbq grill, campfire ring

The Wagon House is approximately 1000 sq. ft. of living space and includes two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, living room with juniper log picnic table, pool table and comfortable couch. One bedroom has two queen beds, the other has two double beds. Just about anything you need is in the kitchen, and if it's not, we’ll supply it for you.

Guests enjoy their own private bar-b-que grill, fire-ring for s’mores, hotdogs, etc. and private parking. The Wagon House is a non-smoking facility with no minimum night stay.

Moved from the Fort Klamath historic site to its present location in the early 1900’s, the original hand hewn beam and wood floors will take you back in time to the rugged days of the west.

Built approximately 130 years ago, the wagon shed, as it was referred to then, housed all the necessary tools and materials to build and maintain the Fort’s wagons.

Fort Klamath was a Frontier Military Post from 1863 to 1890, originally established to keep peace among the Klamath, Modoc and Yahooskin tribes. Another duty of the Fort was keeping peace between the settlers and the Indians. Winters were brutal, supplies were scarce, and day-to-day living was difficult at best.

The Local Fort Klamath museum, ably manned by First Sergeant Kevin Fields, is a great place to take it all in. Sergeant Fields is a wonderful guide for time travel and he’ll have you reliving the old west before you know it.

So if you like history, consider a stay at the Wagon House a chance of a lifetime.

The highlight of our Oregon trip!

  • 5 of 5

The Wagon House was such a unique and wonderful place to stay during our trip around Oregon. Heidi and staff were extremely welcoming and provided lots of good info for our visit to Crater Lake (including the tip to visit the Pinnacles...thank you!). It was very obvious that they take great pride in their work too--they gave us an individualized tour of the house and showed us how to use everything including the heater to keep us warm. The house itself was more than enough room for my husband, dog and me, but we took full advantage of the space. We had a great time grilling steaks, sitting out on the porch swing, roasting marshmallows at the fire pit, and playing pool at night after a day of hiking and sightseeing at the lake. We would highly recommend this place to anyone, and will definitely stay here again if we come back to visit again! Thank you for making this the highlight of our trip!

Roughing It - Without Really Roughing It

  • 5 of 5

This is a very fun place to stay. Ft Klamath has the feel of the old west and the Wagon House adds to that feeling. We were only there one night but made the most of it by grilling steaks, shooting pool and building a fire in the fire pit. The owners are super nice and I would recommend this place to anybody.

A Great Experience

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the Wagon House. The layout was great - two bedrooms, although we only needed one. And it was so spacious. We loved the log picnic table that was inside the House. Everything worked perfectly in the House (kitchen, heating, bathrooms, etc.). Access to the property was easy - and it was easy to find. My wife and I really enjoyed the pool table. We played a few racks after dinner each night. Heidi was such a gracious host. Her tips on what to see and do in Crater Lake were spot-on. I highly recommend the Wagon House if you are planning to visit Crater Lake. It's about a 20 minute drive from the entrance, and waaaay cheaper than staying at the Crater Lake Lodge. Probably a much better experience, too. We can't wait to go back and stay there. Thanks, Heidi. Missing the place already.

Comfortable and cozy with easy access to Crater Lake

  • 5 of 5

The Wagon House was the perfect lodging for our family as we explored Crater Lake National Park. Heidi McLean is a gracious host and knowledgeable guide to the area. She made excellent recommendations regarding points of interest and local restaurants. The house is spacious, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the western theme of the décor and it was well equipped with everything we needed for a great stay. The property is a lovely little oasis along the highway with easy access to the national park. I highly recommend it!

one of a kind

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely enjoyed our stay at the wagon house. Staff were very friendly and helpful, the whole property was nice, quiet and spacious, it has a few swings, a nice lawn that my boys enjoyed. The Wagon house itself is a germ, very uniquely decorated with style, fully equipped with essentials. Beds are very comfortable with nice linens. The house is kept very clean so we feel very comfortable staying there. My boys loved playing the pool table, it kept them occupied when we were in the house (House doesn't have a TV, which was really nice, my boys played the pool table, chess, etc. instead of sitting in front of a TV). We will definitely recommend it to our friends.

Great spot to stay for Crater Lake!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Wagon House for a couple nights. It's the perfect spot to stay while you are visiting Crater Lake. You can escape the crowds at the National Park and return to this rustic, accessible and very clean spot. Heidi, the owner, was a joy to deal with and very accommodating for any of our needs. There's a great fire pit next to the cabin that is at your disposal for use as well. With two spacious bedrooms each with two beds, and a huge living room, you could comfortably fit your family or group of friends in the Wagon House. It's clear they take great pride in their property. I would absolutely recommend this spot to anyone, regardless of your needs or tastes. Enjoy!

The Wagon House (circa 1865) is located in Crater Lake's backyard, in the historic community of Fort Klamath. Situated in the Wood River Valley, we are surrounded by beautiful streams, vast grassy meadows and mountain vistas. There are a number of historical points of interest here, including the Wagon House itself. We have opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, hiking, fishing, and bicycling. And they don't call Crater Lake National Park the gem of Oregon for nothing... With breathtaking beauty, Crater Lake is truly a sight to behold. The park offers boat rides, trolly tours, ranger led activities for the whole family, and amazing hiking trails! Suffice it to say, boredom is not something folks experience here very often. But you'll just have to come and see that for your self! ;-)
