About Geoff & Aurelia
2 world travelers who welcome the world to come to us.
Geoff & Aurelia purchased this Apartment in 2014
Why Geoff & Aurelia chose East Harlem
Manhattan is very expensive, and if you want to actually own the land (and not just rent an apartment over which you have no control), your choices are limited. This is a very quiet area, mostly filled with older Italian couples, and with easy access to the highways and subways, makes it easy to get around the city, and we're still in Manhattan, the best part of NYC. We also feel that with the construction of the 2nd avenue subway line, this area will start to move up in price, and we needed to buy before that happened.
What makes this Apartment unique
This house is intended to be a base of operation for exploring NYC. 7 Blocks from Central Park, we both enjoy biking around the great circle. After a day of exploring the city (Museum Mile is very close by), this house offers a quiet place to retreat to, without leaving Manhattan. The local public pool offers free swimming during weekday mornings in the summer, and so we're both swimming for 30 mins before going to work.

Great Place, Great Hosts, Great Location
We stayed on the bottom floor, so we had access to the back patio, which was so lovely to sit and have a meal or morning coffee. Unit was very clean, had everything we needed to have/cook a meal and plenty of bath towels were provided. Some nice extras the hosts provides are free Wifi, AC in the bedroom, toiletries, and a binder with fun facts, tourist info and suggestions, local pamphlets and maps.
The location was great. We loved the neighborhood, everyone was super friendly. About a 13-15 min walk to the 6 train, and on the walk, it was nice to scope out the stores, restaurants and bars along the way. We loved Harley's BBQ, Hot Jalepeno (sangria A++ and back patio was lovely!), and Love Cafe.
There is no washer on site, but there is a laundry mat 1 block away. We stayed a week, so were able to wash our bath/kitchen towels and washcloths.
Are you picky about pillows? No worries! There are plenty to choose from! I loved one of the pillows so much, I checked the tag, and ordered it online so it would be waiting for me when I got home! Super comfy pillows and beds were noticed by all!
Our hosts, Geoff and Emily, were very accommodating and friendly. I can not say enough nice things about our stay and our hosts. I would definitely recommend and would stay here again.
**TIP**We flew into LaGuardia and would suggest taking a cab. It was only $35 from the unit to LaGuardia. Upon arrival, we used Dial 7 and it was over $125, and then tried to charge us for "wait time" because our flight was late (even though they take your flight # AND I called and told them).
Our family was very happy with the apartment. It was exactly as described. There were seven adults and we had plenty of room. Geoff and Aurelia were wonderful hosts and provided so much information about NYC, public transportation, restaurants, etc. They provided many brochures and maps. The apartment was perfect for coming back to after a long day exploring. The patio was nice to have to sit out on at night. The beds were very comfortable!! It's a convenient location to the subway or bus line. We would recommend eating at Harley's BBQ that's only a few blocks away. We would definitely stay here, again.
The apt was just like the picture. Very clean and comfortable. The owner Emily was very friendly, show us the apt and how to use the a/c heater as it was a chilly weekend. She gave us great suggestions for places to eat and they had a map of the train system which was convinient to plan out our day. Emily made sure on our last day I understood how the deposit is refunded and she did her part in refunding our deposit on that same day so that I would get it in 3 business days through VRBO. I would definitely stay there again as it felt like a home and the owners were so caring and welcoming.
Great place to stay in East Harlem
My husband and I were very pleased with the apartment we rented from Geoff and Emily in East Harlem. It was clean, quiet, nicely decorated, comfortable, and a great place to stay and to just hang out with our daughter when we weren't out running around NYC. Geoff and Emily were very kind, accommodating, gracious hosts and readily available when we had any question/need. It was important to us to rent from owners who live in the same building and are on site but not intrusive. Geoff and Emily were available but never intrusive. We would have enjoyed getting to know them a bit personally - if we'd had the time!...We rented the 1st floor apartment and had use of the laundry facilities downstairs in the well-kept basement. The bed in the apartment was very comfortable, which is very important to me. The pictures on the VRBO listing accurately represent both the inside of the apartment and the outside of the building. The neighborhood is full of people just living life, with lots of activity on the streets between the bus stop/subway stop and their building. The side street on which their building is located is not busy, which makes it a quiet place to stay. My husband and I agree that we would certainly stay at Geoff and Emily's place again and gladly recommend it to others.
Nearby Manhattan attractions include Central Park, the Museum Mile, 5th Avenue shopping district, the Conservatory Gardens, the Apollo Theatre, American Museum of Natural History, Columbus Circle, Lincoln Center, Rockefeller Center, Empire State Building, Times Square, and Carnegie Hall.
