When's the last time you drove down a graveled country road or sat swinging on a porch having your favorite beverage and enjoyed the peace and quiet of the country? Or had a romantic getaway from the hustle and bustle of work and the city life?

Well then, sit on the porch or deck of this recently remodeled and secluded cottage and enjoy fantastic views. Located in the heart of bluebonnet country less than 5 minutes from downtown Chappell Hill. This house sits on a hilltop on approximately 12 acres in a private development with graveled road access. Convenient to Brenham, Round Top, Bellville, Washington on the Brazos, or any where in Washington County.

House has 2 bedrooms, a fully functional kitchen with all new appliances. Master bedroom is furnished with a king size bed and 2nd bedroom with 2 single beds. Each bedroom has its own full bathroom. Large living area with a working fireplace. Outside deck area and front porch swings to sit and enjoy the views.

Excellent location to stay during Bluebonnet or Scarecrow Festivals and the many other festivals in Washington County or the surrounding areas.

Other amenities: central air and heat; ceiling fans; washer and dryer, flat screen TV in living area with only local reception; sorry, but no WIFI is available; linens and towels provided; full compliment of cookware and eating utensils provided; closet space and drawers.

What to bring: paper products; personal toiletries; laundry detergents; food and condiments. Note: paper products and basic toiletries for a minimum 2 day stay are provided.

Restaurants nearby include The Chappell Hill Cafe, Bevers Restaurant, Chappell Hill Bakery Deli & Smokehouse, Subway, and Burger King. Visit the nostalgic ice house '291' on main street for a cold refreshment. Brenham is only 10 miles away with many other restaurants, antique shops, the Blue Bell Creamery, and other sights and activities.

Children welcome.

Pets considered with extra $25 non-refundable fee. Pet owners need to be mindful that this is a country setting and other animals occasionally come onto the property, such as raccoons, skunks, armadillos, opossums, deer, and neighboring dogs. Care should be taken before letting any pet outside unattended. Pets must be current on all vaccinations. Also pets must be caged or somehow restrained when left alone. Do not let pets on furniture and we suggest you bring a pillow or blanket for the pet to use.

Although quoted rates are for a 2-night minimum, single night stays are considered. Please inquire for fees associated with 1-night stays.

About Al & Jean

Being big city transplants, we have lived in Chappell Hill since 2002. Chappell Hill was the birthplace of my mother and grandparents on a small farm. I visited the area many times as a child after moving to Houston. My wife is a retired first grade school teacher having retired from the Brenham ISD.

Why Al & Jean chose Prairies & Lakes

This property is adjacent to our existing home. We bought it in 2014 and remodeled the house to make it a short vacation rental. The previous owner was one of the original land owners in the development, whose name was, what else but Jayne. We wanted to preserve the property in her name.

What makes this house unique

The views and rolling hills. This property is very secluded and peaceful. The house has a country charm which you have to experience. If you've been to Chappell Hill before you'll know what we mean about the area; if you haven't then you're in for a treat.

Wonderful location for a quiet weekend away

This cottage was the perfect location for a friend and I to have a quiet and relaxing weekend without a lot of distractions. The location is beautiful and secluded - the first thing I noticed upon arriving were how many stars I could see! The cottage itself was very clean and spacious, and the kitchen was very well-stocked. I loved the porch and the grounds as well. I highly recommend this location to anyone looking for a weekend to unplug, relax, and enjoy a beautiful place.

If I had my very own "home away," I'd like it to be like Jayne's.

From the moment my husband and I drove up the road to the cottage, we felt our cares melt away. We walked to the pond and sat outside to watch the sunset, then caught the sunrise the next morning before the weather turned gray. Seeing deer, hearing cattle and the sound of the breeze was just what we needed. Our daughter and her fiance joined us for one day; we had a great time just sitting...talking, cooking, playing games. We all look forward to returning soon! Thanks, Al and Jean, for sharing!

Always a good time at Jayne's

This was our third year to spend a weekend at Jayne's for the Scarecrow Festival in Chappell Hill. We love that it is away from the hustle and bustle of the city but close enough to go into Brenham if we wanted to. Our 2 and 1 year old grandchildren enjoyed walking around the property and watching the many deer in the area. The beds are comfortable and the house was clean. Chappell Hill is a quaint town with a few places to shop and good restaurants. We definitely plan to return to Jayne's for the Scarecrow Festival next year. Thank you Al and Jean for letting us rent your home each year.

Peaceful, Pleasant, and Perfect

My family and I came together from different towns/cities and stayed here to celebrate my 26th birthday while eating in Chappell Hill and Brenham, venturing downtown, and attending the County Fair. Everything was so neat and instructions were very clear as to how to access things and clean up after our stay. We had a greeter upon arrival (a very sweet dog), which my 2 year old nephew loved! I really can't say enough positives; Jayne's Cottage really made my birthday weekend with my family such a quality memory!

The property has its own water well drawn from the Brazos Valley aquifer. Some people are not accustomed to well water taste. If so, guests should consider bringing bottle water to drink. The house is also equipped with a water softener. The house has its own septic system. Care must be taken as to what is flushed or put in the drains. Please advise owner of any events you plan to hold on the property, such as BBQ's, parties, etc. Please be honest as to the number of guests staying.
