About Al & Jean

Being big city transplants, we have lived in Chappell Hill since 2002. Chappell Hill was the birthplace of my mother and grandparents on a small farm. I visited the area many times as a child after moving to Houston. My wife is a retired first grade school teacher having retired from the Brenham ISD.

Al & Jean purchased this house in 2014

Why Al & Jean chose Prairies & Lakes

This property is adjacent to our existing home. We bought it in 2014 and remodeled the house to make it a short vacation rental. The previous owner was one of the original land owners in the development, whose name was, what else but Jayne. We wanted to preserve the property in her name.

What makes this house unique

The views and rolling hills. This property is very secluded and peaceful. The house has a country charm which you have to experience. If you've been to Chappell Hill before you'll know what we mean about the area; if you haven't then you're in for a treat.

Country Oasis

  • 5 of 5

If you need to unplug, get away from it all and surround yourself in nature, this is the destination for you! This cottage was fully-functional, charming and felt like a nice family home. I especially appreciated all of the different seating arrangements and the updated bathrooms. The amazing views from the porches are unmatched!! Taking morning walks down the hill, watching the cows, feeding carrots to the horses, and watching the sun set are some of my favorite memories. We enjoyed the fresh air so much that we extended our stay by two days. I also posted some photos with my review on their Facebook page, Jaynes Country Cottage.

Owner's Response: Valerie, Wow, what a review, but so true if I have to say so myself! Thank you so much! Feeding the neighboring horses with carrots is also one of my favorite pastimes; when they hear my UTV coming up the hill they're already at the fence waiting for a treat. Your welcome back anytime of course and Gracie is always waiting! Thank you for your business. Al & Jean

Jayne's Country Cottage takes you back in time.

  • 5 of 5

Jayne's Chappell Hill Country Cottage was a very comfortable home that takes you back in time. It is furnished with every possible thing you might need. And the beautiful views of the property were so peaceful. Al and Jean were very quick to respond to all request and made the booking very simple.

I would definitely stay here again and will keep it on my list for our next Antique Weekend adventures.

Owner's Response: Thank you Vivian for selecting our cottage for your family gathering and it sounds like it met with your needs. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate as much as we hoped but it wasn't a complete wash out. We hope to see you again and thank you for your business.

Wonderful Girls Weekend Getaway Destination

  • 5 of 5

My three girlfriends and myself try to get together twice a year. We have been renting homes on Home Away in different locations for a couple of years. All of us commented that the kitchen in this house was the best equipped of any house we have stayed in. The property was very comfortable, had a great outside sitting area, and the bathrooms were absolutely wonderful. Thank you for sharing the house with us and I know we will be back.

Owner's Response: Hi Jennifer and thanks for the wonderful review, including comments on the kitchen. We will agree that it is well equipped; we continually find items in the kitchen drawers and cabinets that we didn't even know we had. We hope you had some time to enjoy the outdoors and some of the countryside, including Chappell Hill. You and the "girls" are always welcome back for another weekend getaway. Thanks also for taking care of the house. Al & Jean

Wonderful location for a quiet weekend away

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was the perfect location for a friend and I to have a quiet and relaxing weekend without a lot of distractions. The location is beautiful and secluded - the first thing I noticed upon arriving were how many stars I could see! The cottage itself was very clean and spacious, and the kitchen was very well-stocked. I loved the porch and the grounds as well. I highly recommend this location to anyone looking for a weekend to unplug, relax, and enjoy a beautiful place.
