About the property

Private Cabin AND Cottage set right on the edge of Squaw Creek!

Magical outdoor escape for a romantic getaway, or for the entire family!

Book online at our website and see the real time calendar.

This is the perfect Cabin & Cottage for a relaxing getaway! O'Learys Hideaway is set right on Squaw Creek where you can fish or sit by the water enjoying your favorite book and your favorite beverage.

The Cabin is an A-frame with a large, queen loft bedroom and a bedroom with a queen bed on the main level..

The main cabin sleeps 4 people, and the separate Cottage sleeps 2 people in the 2 twin beds. The main Cabin has a full bathroom with a shower and the Cottage has a full bathroom with a shower.

The main bedroom has an amazing view of Squaw Creek with sliding glass doors that lead you onto the deck where you can sit and enjoy your morning cup of coffee with the sunrise.

O'Learys Cottage is a quaint separate A-frame structure just steps away from the main Cabin with a full bathroom and 2 twin size beds.

Snuggle up by the woodstove (wood provided) on cold winter nights and watch movies or snow fall, and play board games with the crew.

Kick back on the expansive outside deck overlooking Squaw Creek. Take a nap in the 2 person hammock under the Pines, or lounge by the Creek with a snack and drink of choice. Ahhhh, life doesn't get any better than that!

Have a BBQ with the gas grill and wood picnic table located on the deck. After your meal, step up and play a game of horseshoes for a little friendly competition with friends or family or swing on the rustic rope swing between the trees.

O'Leary's Hideaway is Pet Friendly and your pooches will love to romp in the Creek and play ball, Croquet, or horseshoes on the grassy meadow beside the Creek.

The cabin is only 5 miles away from the McCloud Reservoir, McCloud Golf Club and downtown historic McCloud. It is about 25 minutes from the Mt. Shasta Ski Park or 20 minutes to Lake Siskiyou.

The McCloud area is known for the best fly fishing (Cut Throat & Browns) in the country!

What more could you ask for than an amazing weekend getaway in the midst of breathtaking beauty. This Cabin takes you back to simpler time of connection to nature and the people you love.

Please note that in the winter it is highly recommended that all guest have a 4 wheel drive vehicle and chains to stay at O'Leary's Hideaway. The road leading to the Cabin typically has some snow and ice on it and the 100' driveway into the Cabin may also have snow and mud on it.

About Carla or Elizabeth

The O'Leary Family have lived around the Mount Shasta area for over 60 years. Lisa, now in her 50's, has beautiful memories of her family enjoying countless days at the cabin; cooking, floating on the Creek, hiking and fishing with her family and friends.

O'Learys's Hideway has been a place of togetherness, contentment, and pure joy for generations.

Lisa O'Leary Angel invites you to a place that has been very special in her heart for a lifetime. A place of beauty where the O'Leary family connected with nature and each other known as 'our Cabin', is now 'your Cabin' to enjoy and make your own memories.

Carla or Elizabeth purchased this cabin in 1979

Why Carla or Elizabeth chose Shasta Cascade

O'Leary's Hideaway has been passed down through the generations. The cabin has been updated over the years, but the essence of love and respect poured into it remains as a tribute to the late Vernon & Sharon O'Leary.

What makes this cabin unique

There is no escaping the beauty of the land and nature that surrounds the Cabin. Squaw Creek runs through the property. The view across the Creek is of a vast meadow often strewn with wildflowers when not blanketed in winter snow. Dip your feet in the water, gaze at the stars, and share the land with the critters that inhabit the area, Bear, Mountain Lion, Turkey, Fox, Eagles, Ravens and Beavers. You are home.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We loved falling asleep to the sound of the Creek. The combined sense of open space and seclusion was extremely relaxing....

Once again this hideaway was spectacular. We brought our children, granddaughter, and 82 year old mom. We all had a fabulous tie, everyone was cozy, slept well and we all had room to relax. So hard to leave and on our way out of town we booked another week in July. It is our home away from home..

Just Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I spent 5 days in the wonderful cabin. It was more than we both expected. From the time the reservations were made, I was in contact with the agency and was treated with respect and awesome customer service! When we got to the cabin, it was great. Quiet, secluded, and cozy.

Yes, there is no internet, cable, or telephone, but it gave us time to reconnect with each other and with nature.

It stormed for the first few days, but even with the thunder, lightening, rain and wind, our stay was incredibly peaceful.

We're hoping to make this a yearly tradition here from now on!

Very good get-away rental, needs a few tweaks to get 5 stars.

  • 4 of 5

My family (coming from OR and CA) has been converging on McCloud for thanksgiving for a number of years now. We normally stay in town, but this year opted for this more remote setting.

First the good: this is a great location if you want to really feel like your out of the way in a mountain cabin. The cabin is well shielded form the road. The creek that runs right along the back of the lot is beautiful as is the view across the field and into the woods. The deck spur runs almost over the water. You are just 6 minutes from town if you need supplies and there are lots of forest road drives to take nearby. If you have dogs its pet friendly. LOTS of fire wood for the wood burning stove. Nice little den area for relaxing and great views out the large windows. Also great for kids, our two young boys loved it here.

Now for the not so great: while the cabin is understandably rustic, there are a number of issues that should be addressed for any rental property like this and at this nightly rate. First, there were a LOT of flies in the main cabin. Not buzzing around our heads but dropping half dead off the ceiling each day. It was a regular chore to clean them up every morning. The main cabin bathroom had one or two rolls of TP that naturally ran out. We as the house guests had to resupply the rental. Likewise there were only two small trashcan liners for the main kitchen garbage can for a 6 day stay. We substituted a lawn bag found outside for the rest of the stay. Internet is listed on the VRBO site, but there was none that I could find. There are two VHS players and one DVD player and a few VHS tapes and DVDs. Both VHS machines are busted, didn't bother to try the DVD player (nothing worth putting in them). Not a huge deal, but again it is listed as an amenity and so should work.

That's it. Mostly a really nice stay in a decent cabin, but felt like it should be offered at a different price point for how it was set up. It's more like getting the keys to your uncles place then renting a well prepared vacation rental.

From the moment I walked in I felt peaceful! It is well appointed with everything you need to prepare meals, plenty of towels etc. The views from the open concept cabin are amazing! The sound of the creek running through the property was so nice. So great that we could bring our furry family too..they had fun running around the property, playing in the creek. The only thing to be aware of is that the water there has a lot of iron in it ( won't keep me from going again though!!). They have a reverse osmosis filter that helps, but it did have a "salty" taste that I didn't like. So we used the "emergency" water for when the power goes hopefully that was okay! I will definitely be going was an amazing time!

Very enjoyable

  • 5 of 5

My family loved this place. The kids stayed in the cottage and had a great time in "their house". The location is great and all the personal items made it very homey and comfortable. The only negative was the lock box code I was given was incorrect and only included the main house. I called the office and was given the correct code for both places. If we had arrived after the office closed, that may have spoiled the trip.
