About Shelly Campbell

We are life partners (26 years) who decided to buy the house across the street when it came available. Over the course of two years, we gutted and rebuilt it from top to bottom. It comes fully furnished with practical and artistic pieces we created ourselves.

Background: We both grew up trailing our military dads (Army & Air Force) around the world until we grew up and started our adult lives. Still, Shelly calls Michigan her family home and Eileen calls Vermont her home of family origin.

Shelly Campbell purchased this house in 2009

Why Shelly Campbell chose West Side

The interior and exterior of the property is in pristine condition, the neighborhood is richly diverse—white, black, Native, Mexican, Hmong, mixed race, gays, rich, poor, middle-class, democrats and republicans—you name it, we've got it. The location (by car) is 5 minutes from downtown St Paul/10 minutes from Minneapolis (to answer the number one question posed by folks: yes, we are 5 minutes from the Xcel Energy Center). A fully-functioning photo studio is located on the backside of the property—need a "Linkedin" photo, or, an update to the ten-year-old family photo? It's free with your 4-night stay! Check out Shelly's photos: search on "Shelly Campbell Studios."

Guestbook comments from the owner

Avi Gardner sent two of her best company representatives: Kelly and Katie. The two were great guests at the house—even though they were busy running all over the cities passing out Noosa Yogurt samples, they managed to keep the house immaculate, were very quiet and courteous. And, Noosa gained Twin Cities converts: during their stay Kelly and Katie gave us samples, and we've gotta admit, we're now hooked (little did we know, our neighbors already were hooked).

Perfectly charming and quiet!

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect! The community was quiet allowing for a restful retreat environment.

Quick and convenient access to all major attractions! We loved learning more about the history of St Paul and hopping on the Nice Ride bikes. Short walks to local dining.

Shelley was very accommodating and checked in throughout our stay and willing to provide recommendations if requested.

I highly recommend taking advantage of the photo shoot. Shelley was patient to get everyone relaxed to bring out natural expressions.

I hope to visit again!

Owner's Response: It was great hosting Angela, James, and Stephen. Really nice folks with spunk and sensibility! I hope they return for another visit to escape the heat of Houston—and hey, maybe even in January—just to experience the extremes of Minnesota??

The home and Shelly were great.

  • 5 of 5

The home was clean, well-stocked with what one needs, delightful to be in with all the artwork. Shelly was very accommodating and responded promptly to any questions before or during. As we stayed four nights, we qualified for a free photo shoot which was lots of fun - she's good at it. It's walking distance to downtown St Paul (though a pretty long walk) and getting to the park on the side of river away from downtown is even easier. There is pretty much nothing close by in the way of coffee shops or restaurants. It's a quiet residential neighborhood.

Owner's Response: The Glatz family (and spouses) were great folks to have at the house—and, I should point out that they broke all records for doing laundry and cleanliness! I feel bad that I had forgotten to point out a local cafe, located only 6 blocks away (a breakfast and lunch staple for so many guests). Hopefully they can take advantage of it on their next visit!

Nice place but...

  • 3 of 5

The place is great although there were a few things that stopped us from loving it. First there are basically no TV stations, so at the end of the day when we wanted to chill before bed and watch some TV, it didn't really work. And second when we requested to say a couple more hrs on Sunday bc our flights were late in the day, they asked us to pay another 1/2 day. Kind of cheap.

Owner's Response: It's unfortunate that one hour before check-out Darryl requested to stay another 8 hours. This ill-timed request, along with the half-sentence communication from the moment he made the reservation, was a bit of a bummer. And, not quite sure what he means when he says the TV "..didn't really work." There are at least 25 stations, including the major broadcasting stations and Public Television. On the flip side, we appreciate that he and the other guys did leave the house tidy and clean!

Loved the home and would definitely come back again when in town.

  • 5 of 5

The whole experience with Shelly and renting the home was enjoyable and the home was better than we could have hoped for. I'm a bit of a "germ phobe" and had no cause for concern in this beautiful and spacious home. My husband and I and our 23 year old daughter flew to Saint Paul (MSP airport was only 15 minutes drive) to see our son who is going to college in Saint Paul. Our son stayed with us for the four nights and there was plenty of room for all of us. We let the kids have the two queen beds and we took the two twins and we all slept comfortably. The bathrooms and kitchen had everything we needed, plenty of towels, paper products, and a washer and dryer if we needed it(we didn't use it till the day we left when I threw some of our bedding in the washer). Shelly was attentive and available and gave us very clear and helpful instructions about the house and lots of good tips for getting around and where to shop/sightsee, but never made us feel crowded and we had plenty of privacy. The home is located close to a local grocery store and several restaurants and shops were a short drive away. I felt like we really lucked out finding this place and we thank Shelly for her warm hospitality and for making our stay in Saint Paul very comfortable. Thanks Shelly!!

Owner's Response: Really great folks, and they left the house in perfect condition. I appreciated talking to a fellow-welder who understood the structure of the artwork I've built for the house—always fun to talk in my native builders tongue!
