Located on 10 acres along pastoral County Road 250, the 2000 square foot modern rustic-styled home offers privacy, seclusion, and a delicious amount of peace and quiet.
Or lack thereof! A continuous fresh air exchange system makes for luxurious comfort and superior indoor air quality. This home is perfect for allergy or chemically sensitive guests, thanks to zero VOC paints, natural finishes, no pets/tobacco/cologne/perfume policies and use of gentle, unscented cleaners.
Great care was taken in selecting quality beds, mattresses, carpets, rugs, linens and towels, etc. - the majority made from natural products and fibers that pamper the body in a way synthetics can’t. An extra plus: I keep Risco Rojo fastidiously maintained and impeccably clean!
I provide coffee, tea, cream, spices, oil, sugar and a variety of other condiments to make it easy and affordable for my guests to enjoy the fully stocked kitchen. An attached greenhouse often has fresh herbs available too!

Risco Rojo is less than 15 minutes to Durango and only 20 minutes to Purgatory Ski Resort. It’s as an ideal adventure hub, offering immediate access to premier southwest Colorado biking routes (road and mountain), national forests, winter sports and scenic hikes. Trimble Hot Springs and the Dalton Ranch Golf Course are three miles away and Missionary Ridge Road is just a couple miles north. Any guest with artistic tendencies will also find ample inspiration at Risco Rojo with the changing light dancing on the cliffs and across the valley.

The home is a fine example of efficient, sustainable design - powered almost entirely by active and passive solar systems. Experience the incredible comfort this house offers over conventional-built homes. Other technology features include in-floor radiant heating, a heat-recovery ventilation system, induction stove, LED lighting, ultra-efficient appliances and an outlet for electric car charging.

The home is well suited for 4 people (an ideal spot for couples traveling together), but can accommodate 1 or 2 more people with the day bed and trundle in the Reading Room.
The Verde Suite with king bed provides spectacular east, south and west facing views of the Animas Valley. The Terlingua Room has a queen bed and is cozily tucked away on the first floor with views to the east and north. Exquisite granite, natural stone and tile designs adorn both bathrooms.
The house is fully furnished and stocked with linens, towels, cookware, kitchen utensils and a BBQ grill. The outdoor fire pit is perfect for a roaring blaze and making s’mores. There is also Wifi, a TV with DirectTV satellite service (including movie channels), a full stereo system (with outdoor speakers), and a Sonos player in the Verde Suite. Safely store bikes and other gear in the spacious garage.
Guests are welcome to consume marijuana on the premises, but there is no smoking indoors (vaporizers okay).
I love meeting my guests and helping to make their vacation a success! I’m available to assist you with questions about the home technology systems and the area in general. For additional fees, I can stock the refrigerator before your arrival, provide housekeeping, prepare meals for your party during your stay (advance notice required), provide bike shuttles and/or offer other concierge-like services.
My nephew lives in the attached Tree Ghost Studio, (apartment with separate entrance on opposite side of house) and serves as the property caretaker. Please note that we may both need to occasionally access the garage and main house to water indoor plants or perform other maintenance duties. Entry times with estimated lengths of stay are coordinated with guests ahead of time by text to ensure respect of privacy.
