Perfect place to gather with family and friends. If you're looking for a place to stay close to the skiing, you can't get a better location. Or if you just want to hang out and enjoy the charming house you won't be disappointed. The barn truly has everything you need- fully stocked kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, laundry. You name they have it thanks to Lois, the manager.

An Incredible Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time staying at the Designer Barn and both times were fantastic. Surrounded by art and design from all over the world, every nook and cranny of this gorgeous property is filled with intrigue. The first time we stayed in warm weather we loved being outside on the deck and patio, but with snow outside gathering around the fireplaces was equally enjoyable. Lois is an amazing host - she goes above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need to feel at home. Either with friends or family there is plenty of room to gather together or go off alone and explore. Such a fun place to stay, we are already looking for reasons to come again!

Great Girls Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our group had a great time at the designer barn. It's quirky, it's eclectic, it's huge, and it's worth seeing. Lois is amazing to work with. She took care of everything we needed and was so pleasant and informative. The barn is well-stocked with every kitchen item you could possibly need, plenty of sheets and pillows and towels and blankets for all the beds. As some other reviewers have said, there isn't really a cozy comfy lounging room just hang out in. But we found a way to make it work. Also, the amount of mirrors in this house is a little freaky and takes a little getting used to. Peninsula is a cute little town and worth exploring.

Owner's Response: Thanks for getting back to us; yes, we do have a somewhat formal living room designed by our founder but hopefully still enjoyable esp with fireplace, pillows and throws ~ and the more informal living room with cable : ) and a second fireplace. Glad this worked out for you ! Appreciate the feedback knowing that all details and amenities were helpful. Happy holidays and many thanks, Lois

Great Thanksgiving Break!

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful place was like finding a diamond in the rough. There are not too many homes to rent in the Akron area, but we were blessed to come across this amazing barn home. It was absolutely perfect. Lois, the property manager, gets five stars as well as the home. From the moment we stepped foot in the door, she was very welcoming, friendly, and attentive to every detail from start to finish. She continually went over and above to make certain our stay was relaxing and without any issues. She made a special trip to deliver a brand new table cloth and baking dish as we were hosting a large group of 22 for Thanksgiving dinner that we didn't even expect. Her communication with us was always prompt making sure everything was running smoothly during our stay. The home was immaculate!!! She was very thorough during our initial walk through in showing us everything we needed to know, as well as giving us some history about the Barn and the owner. The home itself was fully stocked with everything we needed and more. We truly needed nothing except for our suitcase and some groceries during our week stay. Bedding, towels, linens, dishes, bakeware, tables, chairs... you name it, were provided in plenty along with laundry detergents, dish soaps and bath and shower supplies as well. The Barn was awesome and so was Lois. The three story home had ample space where we could share great, quality family time. We would have loved to have utilized the beautiful decks and outdoor areas had we been there during the summer months. Thank you so much for making our holiday so special and memorable. We would definitely rent again if we have the opportunity. It's in a great location as it's within walking distance of many shops and restaurants. We would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to stay for any occasion. Thanks again, Lois!

A slice of history and comfortable, unique lodging in one!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for our 33rd annual Girls Getaway and it was perfect!! Each of the four of us had our own room and ensuite bath. One of the suites had a pullout couch in it's outer room and a small kitchen - would be good for early bird risers needing coffee/breakfast ahead of others, or for a family with children needing their own space within the barn. Lois Unger is a delight to work with and encourages you to make use of the acoutrements in the kitchen and dining areas, gas fireplaces, etc. Quality linens and toiletries in abundant supply. Continental breakfast items were much appreciated. Walking distance to Peninsula shops and restaurants. We are a group of Cleveland Indians' fans. Our only criticism is that the space to watch TV (we stayed during World Series week) as a group for long periods is a little awkward in terms of comfortable furnishings. But it didn't stop us from watching 2 nights of baseball and binge watching two movies one rainy day! We would definitely return again!
