Spacious 3BR, 2BA Cute, Comfortable Cottage/Year Round Home. Sat.- Sat. rental
COTTAGE DESCRIPTION: Relaxed, open living in this 3 bedroom, 2 bath Glen Lake cottage available year-round. Enjoy lots of natural light and great lake views from the floor to ceiling windows. Grab a cup of cherry coffee, relax on the front deck, and enjoy beautiful Glen Lake, Michigan.
The vaulted ceilings and ample windows in the great room/dining room/kitchen area give a spacious, open feeling. The living area has a full size futon, a recliner, 2 vintage cottage chairs, a new flat screen TV with DVD player and compatible to watch movies from your computer and DVD movies to watch. No cable subscription... it would interfere with our peaceful vacations! High speed WiFi throughout the cottage and deck. The living room has a ceiling fan for air circulation.
The dining area has a beautiful wooden table that seats 6 but it also has a leaf that can accommodate 2-4 more. The chairs are vintage mid-century cottage pieces with vinyl seats to allow for a wet bathing suit now and again.
The kitchen has all the tools and equipment you need for making great meals. The open floor plan means the spaces for cooking, eating, and relaxing flow naturally together.
The master bedroom also has vaulted ceilings and a wall of windows with lake views. The MBR has a comfy king size bed, large 9 drawer dresser, ceiling fan for air circulation, and an attached full bath.
The front bedroom has the original planked walls from the 1950's cottage. It has a full sized antique spindle bed, small desk, dresser, closet, and ceiling fan. And, of course, a view of the lake. The bunkroom has two single beds, a dresser, closet and a tower fan.
There is a washer and dryer closet in the front hallway along with 2 large storage closets. Attached is a large 2 car garage.
The cottage has a large outdoor deck, a table with 4 chairs and more chairs in the shed, a gas grill and plenty of grass areas to play lawn games or kick a soccer ball.
In all but the kitchen, hallway, and bathrooms the floors are carpeted with new light colored carpet.
There is so much to do in this area! Of course Glen Lake is the perfect place to enjoy all of the water sports - swimming, kayaking, skiing, sailing, wakeboarding, jet skiing, etc, in the crystal clear Glen Lake water. The swimming area is well suited for children as it does not get deep for quite a ways out.
Within short walking distance, there are 2 outstanding restaurants, and also within a short walk is the legendary Laker Shakes ice cream store where along with many types of frozen goodies you can also get some basic groceries and baked goods.
Away from the lake, there is a whole lot of fun to be had with Sleeping Bear Dunes and Glen Arbor minutes away. Hiking, biking, shopping, galleries, Lake Michigan, Canoeing the Crystal River, Leland fishing village, local wineries, Traverse City (Cherry Festival!) and lots more! And there is Cherry Republic in Glen Arbor where you can find all things cherry and decide what you like best while trying out all of their yummy samples.
If your vacation style is active or lazy-read-a-book-by-the-lake, this cottage is a great place to experience your dream lakeside vacation.
We offer Saturday to Saturday rental for 6 people. Additional people up to 8 for an added charge.
Please note that we do not begin taking reservations until after our family has decided when we will be staying in our cottage. Our goal is to open it up for reservations soon after February 15.

About Mary Chleboun
My husband and I have raised our family in a small college town for the last 30 years. One of the best perks to living on this end of the country is its driving distance to Glen Lake! Our kids have grown up loving our summer vacations at Glen Lake.
Mary Chleboun purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Mary Chleboun chose Leelanau County
Every summer of my life has revolved around vacation at Glen Lake with my family. First, those lake weeks were with my parents and siblings and then with my husband and children. We like to say that Glen Lake water runs through our veins. My great grandparents purchased a farmhouse near Glen Lake back in the 1920's and have passed down their love for this beautiful lake and all it has to offer to all of the generations since. This cottage is new to our family but is just a few hundred feet from that original farmhouse and the cottage next door which was built by my grandpa. So, owning this cottage is not only a dream come true but in many ways feels like we are 'coming home'.
What makes this Cottage unique
The beautiful views of the lake from almost every window of our cottage was what made us fall in love with the place. The planked walls and doors in the original part of the cottage add tons of charm and history to the home. The peaked ceiling addition that was done in the late 80's adds a spacious feeling to the open floor plan of the kitchen, living room, and dining area. It can be cozy for a few people but also can accommodate a houseful. The deck and yard also provide plenty of outdoor space to enjoy and entertain.

Wonderful airy cottage in a great location!
Loved spending relaxing time at this wonderful, well cared for cottage, just steps away from amazing Glen Lake. We spent much of our days enjoying the surrounding area, such as Sleeping Bear Dune drive, dune climb, hikes to Lake Michigan and exploring historic Glen Haven, hunting for petoskey stones, shopping in Glen Arbor, hiking Alligator Hill trail, and the list goes on and on. There are many places to access Lake Michigan which is also very nice. We enjoyed great dinners at fabulous local restaurants (tho the kitchen in this cottage is very well equipped), then spent evenings hanging out and playing games which are supplied in the closet. The owners are very nice and EXTREMELY attentive and very easily accessible, however everything was very clear. We loved our stay in this cozy cottage. Other reviews plus the owner's descriptions detail specific features of this cottage, so I won't duplicate in this review. We are very familiar with homes on Glen Lake and surrounding areas- the well water is safe to drink however does have a slight sulfur odor so we expected this-- don't think there is anything that can be done about this and to us it was normal and certainly not a big deal. The owners have provided a large dispenser of fresh water in the kitchen if you would prefer that for drinking. All areas were very clean and all dishes and pans were perfectly fine. This is a wonderful, comfy and clean cottage and we look forward to staying here again on another visit to this BEAUTIFUL part of the world! Thank you, Mary!
Not exactly what we expected
The Owner was very polite and easily accessible. She took time to offer many helpful and thoughtful opinions of things to do and places to eat. I'm appreciative they made an exception allowing us to stay shorter than their normal requirements. This being said, there were significant disappointing surprises during our stay. Upon arrival, the house smelled very mildew-musty, like a basement, all windows were open. It took 2 days for the home to air out and smell better, which it did, after 2 days. The king size bed was extremely comfortable, however the other 2 rooms had beds that were uncomfortable for adults. Faucet water had a strong odor, maybe sulfer, so linens did not smell fresh and shower water had that smell too. A fresh water dispenser was in the kitchen for drinking water. Kitchen is very well stocked, however the underside of the 2 skillets I used had layers of "cooking build up". They need to be replaced for renters to use them. We walked to the beach access area and watched the sun go down. The Sunset was very beautiful. We drove to Empire for more of a "true beach" experience. The beach access area is a small shallow area at the end of a road with overgrown weeds. The furniture is as presented in the pictures. These are our honest opinions. I'm not trying to be insulting or hurtful, but it was extremely disappointing to rent a house with certain expectations and have this experience. Afterwards, I noticed use of the word "cottage". I'm not sure if that's an understood word for more of a "rustic experience", but that's what I would describe, but not what we expected . I rented this property based on all the 5 stars it received, but after thoroughly reading others responses, some of my concerns were listed too.
Fantastic Cottage to rent for a beautiful, relaxing getaway!
Wow! What a great home to rent so close to Glen Lake, Glen Arbor & the gorgeous Sleeping Bear Dunes. Mary’s cottage was very spacious for our family of 5. The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to cook. There is a grill and a firepit, and a hammock to relax and read a book on. There is one TV that doesn’t have cable which was fine with us but Mary does provide DVD’s to watch and also board games which we took advantage of. The lake is a about a 2 minute walk which provides great swimming and a sandy area where the kids can bring sand toys. My children are 8,7 and 1 and they had an absolute blast. The lake water is so clean and beautiful. There is also a very nice view of Alligator Hill and the sunsets were just spectacular. There is the Lakers Shakes ice cream shop (about a 10 minute walk) that has local Moomer’s ice cream and the town of Glen Arbor is about a 10 minute drive. We really enjoyed our stay at the Cottage and all that the surrounding area had to offer. My husband and I have a very hectic schedule and this is the first time in a long time where we felt we could actually relax and spend precious time with our family. We made so many memories here and can’t wait to return next year.
Great cottage in a beautiful location.
Our family rented for 2 weeks this summer. This was the third time we have rented this property. The house is great. The owner makes sure that you have everything you need. Location is great. Just a short walk to public access of Glen lake. We hope to return next summer!
It has always been great to have you and your family as guests and we hope that you do return next year!
Nice house, convenient location. Lots of thoughtful touches to make you feel at home.
Owners great to work with! Would recommend renting kayaks or boat to take full advantage of this property. Water is beautiful!
So glad that you enjoyed our cottage and that you felt right at home. We are hoping in the next year or so to fit the purchase of a kayak into our budget for use at the cottage. We think it would be a great addition for our guests. Hopefully in 2018.
Beautiful house with fabulous lake views that is well maintained and extremely clean and tidy.
We had a wonderful vacation. House has everything that a family would need. Mary has a well stocked kitchen, it has a gas grill and patio furniture to enjoy the lake or eat outside. Master bedroom was comfortable with the king sized bed and bathroom attached. The kids had plenty of room in the bedrooms and we loved that they had their own bathroom. Cottage is a great location. You are right in front of Glen Lake and near Sleeping Bear Dunes and Glen Arbor where we spent a lot of time. Mary is extremely attentive and quick to respond to any questions. It is in an extremely quiet peaceful setting
Denise- Thank you for your appreciative words. It is good to know that the "little extras" that we include to make your stay even better than expected are noticed and enjoyed. We hope you have opportunity to stay at our cottage again in the future!
