We will be opening up our Summer 2017 schedule around Feb. 1. This allows us to get our own family cottage times scheduled first for the summer.
If you want to be contacted once that process begins, just send an inquiry listing the dates for which you are interested. It is often smart to list at least 2 weeks in case your first choice is not available. Feel free to email if you have any questions.
Thank you for your interest in our cottage!
COTTAGE DESCRIPTION: Relaxed, open living in this 3 bedroom, 2 bath Glen Lake cottage available year-round. Enjoy lots of natural light and great lake views from the floor to ceiling windows. Grab a cup of cherry coffee, relax on the front deck, and enjoy beautiful Glen Lake, Michigan.
The vaulted ceilings and ample windows in the great room/dining room/kitchen area give a spacious, open feeling. The living area has a full size futon, a recliner, 2 vintage cottage chairs, a new flat screen TV with DVD player and compatible to watch movies from your computer and DVD movies to watch. No cable subscription... it would interfere with our peaceful vacations! High speed WiFi throughout the cottage and deck. The living room has a ceiling fan for air circulation.
The dining area has a beautiful wooden table that seats 6 but it also has a leaf that can accommodate 2-4 more. The chairs are vintage mid-century cottage pieces with vinyl seats to allow for a wet bathing suit now and again.
The kitchen has all the tools and equipment you need for making great meals. The open floor plan means the spaces for cooking, eating, and relaxing flow naturally together.
The master bedroom also has vaulted ceilings and a wall of windows with lake views. The MBR has a comfy king size bed, large 9 drawer dresser, ceiling fan for air circulation, and an attached full bath.
The front bedroom has the original planked walls from the 1950's cottage. It has a full sized antique spindle bed, small desk, dresser, closet, and ceiling fan. And, of course, a view of the lake. The bunkroom has two single beds, a dresser, closet and a tower fan.
There is a washer and dryer closet in the front hallway along with 2 large storage closets. Attached is a large 2 car garage.
The cottage has a large outdoor deck, a table with 4 chairs and more chairs in the shed, a gas grill and plenty of grass areas to play lawn games or kick a soccer ball.
In all but the kitchen, hallway, and bathrooms the floors are carpeted with new light colored carpet.
There is so much to do in this area! Of course Glen Lake is the perfect place to enjoy all of the water sports - swimming, kayaking, skiing, sailing, wakeboarding, jet skiing, etc, in the crystal clear Glen Lake water. The swimming area is well suited for children as it does not get deep for quite a ways out.
Within short walking distance, there are 2 outstanding restaurants, and also within a short walk is the legendary Laker Shakes ice cream store where along with many types of frozen goodies you can also get some basic groceries and baked goods.
Away from the lake, there is a whole lot of fun to be had with Sleeping Bear Dunes and Glen Arbor minutes away. Hiking, biking, shopping, galleries, Lake Michigan, Canoeing the Crystal River, Leland fishing village, local wineries, Traverse City (Cherry Festival!) and lots more! And there is Cherry Republic in Glen Arbor where you can find all things cherry and decide what you like best while trying out all of their yummy samples.
If your vacation style is active or lazy-read-a-book-by-the-lake, this cottage is a great place to experience your dream lakeside vacation.
We offer Saturday to Saturday rental for 6 people. Additional people up to 8 for an added charge.
Please note that we do not begin taking reservations until after our family has decided when we will be staying in our cottage. Our goal is to open it up for reservations soon after February 15.
My husband and I have raised our family in a small college town for the last 30 years. One of the best perks to living on this end of the country is its driving distance to Glen Lake! Our kids have grown up loving our summer vacations at Glen Lake.
Mary Chleboun purchased this cottage in 2014
Every summer of my life has revolved around vacation at Glen Lake with my family. First, those lake weeks were with my parents and siblings and then with my husband and children. We like to say that Glen Lake water runs through our veins. My great grandparents purchased a farmhouse near Glen Lake back in the 1920's and have passed down their love for this beautiful lake and all it has to offer to all of the generations since. This cottage is new to our family but is just a few hundred feet from that original farmhouse and the cottage next door which was built by my grandpa. So, owning this cottage is not only a dream come true but in many ways feels like we are 'coming home'.
The beautiful views of the lake from almost every window of our cottage was what made us fall in love with the place. The planked walls and doors in the original part of the cottage add tons of charm and history to the home. The peaked ceiling addition that was done in the late 80's adds a spacious feeling to the open floor plan of the kitchen, living room, and dining area. It can be cozy for a few people but also can accommodate a houseful. The deck and yard also provide plenty of outdoor space to enjoy and entertain.
The cottage was perfect and comfortable. Master bedroom was very nice with the king bed and having two bathrooms was useful. Grill, firepit, deck, TV, fully equipped kitchen made this a great stay. Mary was excellent to work with and I appreciated her thorough communication. I wouldn't hesitate to come back here again!
Mary was very attentive and we had a wonderful time at the cottage on Glen Lake. It's a very close walk to the public access where there's enough of a sandy shoreline for the kids to have fun and play in the sand. It's about waist-deep for quite a ways out into the water, and the water was warm and calm.
The neighbors are very friendly and we felt we were part of a neighborhood, not just a tourist destination.
The cottage itself was very nice and clean. The kitchen appliances were all fairly new and worked well. Cabinets were well-stocked.
The only two things we wish were different: 1. there is no air conditioning (it usually isn't a problem Up North by the water, but it was a very hot week and the cottage didn't cool off much). 2. The showers aren't great. The master shower works fine, but the water has a smell to it that's kind of metallic and sometimes a bit like sulfur, and the second shower has a pump that alternates running cold water while your showering. The owners are aware of this problem.
Overall, a fantastic stay! Thank you Mary!
This cottage was perfect for our family of 5. The description of the cottage is well represented and it has all the necessities needed for a relaxing stay. The homeowners were truly a joy to work with and had excellent communication before, during, and after our stay. We are excited to return again.
Very nice rental! Clean, cozy, quiet and perfect location for access to Big Glen Lake (within 50 yards of public access). Within walking distance of an Italian (literally a 2 minute walk, if you're slow) and French restaurants. Only about 15 minute drive to Glen Arbor. The cottage had everything we needed, as far as linens, towels, kitchen supplies and a washer & dryer. Nice lawn with deck, outdoor chairs, hammock and a metal fire pit. I rented this for myself, 2 family members and a friend. My friend and I did the M22 Challenge. Again, the location of the cottage was the perfect distance to the start of the race and was on the bike route of the event! The owner was promptly available via text and email. I would definitely rent this property again!!
The house is as advertised. Quiet and tucked away. The beach is a 30ft strip of sand which was great for our small kids but it is not a beach beach. We rented a paddle board and had it delivered for the week. What a Great Lake. We all paddled the crystal river, explored empire beach and watched stars from the dunes at the nearby state park. The BBQ was used daily and the fire pit was good for s'mores. The house was perfectly functional. Great for our small kids. The drive up firm the Chicago burbs was a little long but the distance helped us all get away. A very relaxing week. Oh.... And the walk to L'becasse is so short. This place is a delicious French country restaurant. A great date!!
Beautiful property. Spacious rooms and a great location. Within walking distance to the beach, ice cream store and two nice restaurants. Well equipped kitchen and nicely decorated.
