Overview

About the property

Sleeps 6. 3 Bedrooms. 2 Baths.

Mountain House Getaway Retreats don't get any better than this! What better place to relax and unwind than immersed in the serene and quiet foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Perfect for avid outdoors - folk, this place is close to the Appalachian Trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway, two of Central Virginia's gems. Close to both the James and Tye Rivers, this is a sportsman's paradise.

In 1897 this wonderful house was built as the Parsonage for the local Pastor. It has been receiving guests ever since. Now renovated and turned into a rentable retreat, you can host your next family gathering in this homey and comfortable farmhouse with magnificent views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

With three bedrooms, the house comfortably sleeps 6 and has 2 full baths, a large living room and a full eat in Kitchen. There are laundry facilities, a dishwasher, and central heat and air conditioning. The front bedroom has a queen bed, the middle bedroom has a queen bed, and there is a loft bedroom off the middle bedroom that has two twin beds.

We believe in great old fashioned country breakfasts, so we leave plenty of breakfast goodies for you to cook up during your stay. Bacon and Fresh Eggs anyone?

But best of all is the great outdoors - incredible views surround the house which is situated in the village of Pleasant View, Virginia. This is an authentic farming community. Most of the residents have lived here all their lives, and why not? After living in Pleasant View, where else could you go that would be so - Pleasant? The quiet, laid back lifestyle in this village has been nearly lost in much of America.

If you are interested in experiencing a bit of country farm life, we can bring a small flock of 6 rare breed hens over to the barn coop for you to enjoy during your visit (weather permitting). Our girls are great fun and come in every color under the sun. We keep Golden and Silver Laced Wyandottes, Buff Orpingtons, Speckled Sussex, Welsummers, Light Brahmas, and several Polish breeds at our nearby farm. Collecting your own fresh eggs for breakfast is a rare treat these days! (Let us know if you want to add a rooster for the fun of it, or if you would just rather sleep in.....)

Pleasant View is very horse friendly, and people still ride horses on the highway here, as well as on the nearby horse trails off of Route 60. A simple stable and nice pasture on the property make a pleasant place to tie out your horse during your stay.

The Old Parsonage makes a great place to stay for Parents and Graduation weekends or for mid-year visits to see your favorite students.

Half Hour Away: Lynchburg and Amherst County, are home to five of Central Virginia's Colleges and Universities, including Liberty University, Sweet Briar College, Randolph College, Lynchburg College and Central Virginia Community College. In addition, Amherst is home to a premier artists' retreat, The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, VCCA. Natural Bridge, one of the 'Seven Natural Wonders of the World' is close by.

Also Half Hour Away: Lexington is home to VMI, Washington and Lee University, the Lime Kiln Theatre and the famous Virginia Horse Center.

An Hour and a Quarter: Charlottesville is home to the University of Virginia and Piedmont Virginia Community Colllege. (The route to Charlottesville passes through winery country, and you can spend a day tasting local micro-brew beer, hard cider and wines at more than a dozen venues between the Old Parsonage and Charlottesville.)

Forty Minutes away: Oak Ridge Estate, home of the Nelson County 'Lockn' Music Festival.

The James River Batteaux Festival launches from Lynchburg headed for Richmond, VA, every June. The launch festival is quite memorable with boaters dressed in period costumes and hand crafted vessels manned by both men and women of all ages.

With so much to see and do in the area, you can use the Old Parsonage as a hub to go in many different directions and enjoy all Central Virginia has to offer.

Super hosts, lovely views, historic house

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful stay, and the hosts were unbelievable. Breakfast (eggs, bacon, juices, milk, fruit and more) were supplied and waiting for us - well beyond our expectations. The Parsonage is an old house, but well furnished and comfortable. It had a lovely feel, and the five of us were very happy there. The owners came round to meet us, and offered advice on where to go in the area - what wonderful, friendly people. The views were spectacular, particularly the sunsets. We would happily stay there again!

Perfect blend of century-old character coupled with modern amenities plus above & beyond hospitality

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Old Parsonage while attending orientation with our daughter at Liberty University about thirty minutes away. The charm of this 120 year-old house was remarkable. With the modern updates and the thoughtfully-stocked kitchen with wonderful breakfast items, especially the EGGS!, we felt very much at home. The Novak's have gone above and beyond in anticipating their guests' needs!

Our first VRBO experience. Everything far exceeded our expectations. The house was filled with historical charm, but was very clean and comfortable. Our host made certain that every need was cared for. Comfortable beds and clean bathrooms. Our highest recommendation!!!

This house has such a warm and authentic atmosphere.

  • 5 of 5

We are a family with 3 small children (4, 3 and 1 year old).

The moment we walked into the house we could feel the warm and nice atmosphere.

We only stayed two nights and were visiting also family in the area, but we could stay here a week without being bored. We love the view both sides of the house, you can see the mountains. The house has everything you need included the breakfast in the fridge. This was perfect for us.

Beds are good, and kids room next to parents room which is also very handy when you have smalll kids.

Love to come back one time.

Very relaxing stay in the Old Parsonage!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 4 nights over Spring Break last week. The owners couldn't have been more hospitable and the home more inviting. As others have mentioned, the fridge was stocked with fresh farm eggs, bacon, and everything else you could think of for breakfast throughout our stay (cereal, granola, yogurt, etc). My kids and I enjoyed playing catch in the side yard and I used the propane grill a couple times (it's seen better days, but got the job done). There are lots of great hiking trails nearby and we enjoyed two long hikes on the Appalachian Trail while we were there. If you're not sure where to hike the owners have provided lots of maps and guides for nearby trails. The views of the mountains were beautiful and we enjoyed hanging out on the porch admiring them. On the way home, we stopped by an awesome pie shop called Woodruffs. It's only 10 minutes from the house and not to be missed.
