Great home on surprising island
The home is fantastic. Lots of light on the main floor (top floor). Short walk to the beach. It was fun having a golf cart for getting around. There is a nature trail just south of the house that winds through a completely natural, unspoiled part of the island -- super cool. The island is really an unexpected treasure. I didn't know places like this existed in Florida.
A couple of things to be aware of. (1) You need to bring everything that you need for your stay, if you don't want to take the ferry back to reload. There is a tiny convenience store on the island, but it is poorly stocked. There are restaurants though. We only went to Mango's for one meal -- food was good, service was not great. We prepared the rest of the meals in the well appointed kitchen. (2) Schedule your ferry ride early and on North Captiva Island Club ferry. We tried to book our ride for a Saturday two weeks ahead of our arrival and it was fully booked. So, we ended up taking the Island Girl ferry. It worked out fine, but Jim had to make special accommodations to have someone help us get our luggage from Barnacle Phil's to the house (thank you Jim!).
All in all, it was a great vacation and the house was perfect for our needs!
Spectacular, the entire experience.
For sure this was an experience like none other. We had never been to North Captiva but will for sure return. The details and pre- planning needed for a weeks vacation on North Captiva is totally worth all the effort. The home was perfect for our family super clean tons of space all that you need for a weeks vacation. If my wife who is above average cook had any comments that would be the kitchen knives could use a sharpening. And if thats the only complaint thats awesome in my book. Our kids played pool on the outsoor pool table almost every night. Sumsets on the beach and poolbar at Mangos made the trip spectacular. We would recommend Boats n Fun, highly recommend actually, we rented a boat for a day as well as took half day fishing trip with Captain Dalton which were both fanastic. The staff at North Captiba Club were really accommodating to all of our needs although we really disnt have any since the house was so well equiped. I would recommend Casa Loco and North Captiva to all of my friends and we as a family cant wait to return.
Beautiful home by the beach
We stayed at this home in April 2017 and had 5 adults and 2 children in our group. It accommodated our family really well with 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. The upstairs floor had a gorgeous open concept kitchen, dining, and living area which were full of natural light & windows looking out to the ocean. The one thing that would make this house perfect is if it had a pool. On the plus side the beach is just a short walk away but with kids it's nice to have the option of both. My only complaint about this trip was the North Captiva Island Club for a couple of reasons - all mainly logistical. When we arrived we were not given a welcome packet so we were unaware of a few details that would have been helpful throughout our stay. Finally, on our last day we scheduled for our luggage to be picked up between 8-8:45 AM but nobody ever showed up. We ended up having to rush and make a couple of trips back and forth ourselves to get our luggage to the dock. Nobody was at the office until about 9:15 AM nor ever answered our phone calls. This was our second time to North Captiva and not at all like what we experienced the first time in arriving/departing the island. All in all though, this is a great island to visit!
Great house & location; some problems
The house is a wonderful beach house & very close to the beach. Very tight arrangements & once you are familiar with them, they make sense. The internet did not work while we were there (despite the manager's suggestions. Do NOT order groceries from the recommended service (Sandie somebody). She got the date of our order wrong -they were not waiting for us; had trouble with the charge payment the day later; and she read the shopping list in a very idiosyncratic way. The service is separate from the club; so maybe not fair to be so harsh in its effect on the stay. But, the club suggests her in the informational material and there really isn't another way to get groceries once you are on the island. Much easier to order online from Publix & pick up your order.
We stayed on North Captiva for 4 days and enjoyed the home very much.
It had everything we needed, except for gas grill. Just steps away to a beautiful beach for sunsets. Nice walk to pool and having the golf cart was a fun way to explore island. Rental bikes are in need of repair.
Make sure you buy all your groceries including coffee, oil and spices, shampoo and conditioner if needed as there are no provisions.
We've been visiting here for years, and this is one of the nicest homes we've rented on North Captiva.
Beautifully renovated, close to the beach... just perfect.
