Why Rena Sciturro Wilson chose Mesa Verde

I built on this particular property because my 85 year old father lives in his home farther back on the property and it gives me a chance to visit him regularly when I check people in and out.

What makes this bungalow unique

Because my father creates a wonderful garden each summer fresh vegetables are a treat for guests. This Cottages sits in a rural setting but not far from town, mountains, Mesa Verde, fishing, horseback riding, and biking right off of the property.

This cottage is brand new with high end finishes.

Elegant comfort

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay and we deviated from our original plans in order to return. That itself should say something. The cottage is perfect for 2. This time we rendezvoused with a friend and it was just as comfortable for 3. It is elegantly decorated and it provided a comfortable break in the middle of our camping trip. The pond is a great stopping place for birds and the sunsets over Mesa Verde viewed from the back deck can be spectacular. Dinner at Olio is a perfect complement to staying here. We certainly intend to return. Often!

beautiful, nicely appointed "cottage" in the Mesa Verde country of SW Colorado.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin or cottage sits on several acres of Pinyon and Juniper forest. The cottage itself was very nicely appointed, everything worked perfectly, was aesthetically appealing, and it was a great place to rest your bones after a good day hiking or climbing. And the quiet was awesome.

I hope we can come back for other adventures in this area and stay at your modern-equipped country home.

Thanks again,

New Mexico

Peace & quiet in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful décor, luxurious linens and a spa like bathroom. Located just minutes to Mesa Verde and downtown Mancos. Rena greeted us and introduced us to her immaculately clean cottage and gave us great restaurant recommendations. The pond on the side of the house hosted several ducks and frogs, great entertainment. Also, the deer that made their way through the property every day. A walk down the country road next to the house took us to a llama, alpaca and yuk ranch, the animals were curious about our dog and came close to the fence to check him out. Rena left lots of information on galleries, restaurants and other points of interest on the counter for us. Two or three days is not enough time to enjoy this beautiful, comfortable home and valley. We highly recommend it.

Just what we needed!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is great, peaceful, comfortable and situated close to everything you want and far enough away from everything you don't. We are considering making this a yearly thing now. Thanks, Rena for providing us with accommodation that was exactly as described, and more so.

Modern, peaceful, perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

We rented this to be close to Mesa Verde - and it IS super close - but I would return here just to stay in the cabin again! It is so perfectly appointed - everything is up-to-date, clean, and comfortable. The bed is wonderful, linens/towels are great, kitchen is fully stocked, the living room is super comfy. There was not one downside to staying here. Perfect for a couple's getaway! And the owner is so nice and ready to help with anything (not that we needed help since everything was perfect!)

Left a Bad Taste

  • 1 of 5

We were on a road trip when we stayed for two nights at this property. The pictures of the property are accurate. The written descriptions are a bit effusive (the "pond" is more swamp, and the "wildlife" were a couple of poky mule deer that could be seen anywhere in the county) but not inaccurate. Convenient to Mesa Verde and its spectacular Pueblo cliff dwellings.

PROS: A small, rural home on a long gravel driveway that's very quiet. Long views of pretty green grasses. The stars at night are exquisite. A tasteful, but bland, interior. A well-fitted, new kitchen with what you'd need to fix most meals. Mostly new cutlery (although some of the second-drawer spatulas, scissors, and knives look orphaned).

The restaurant in town, Olio, is excellent. It's the place to go on a special occasion. Hefty prices for locally grown salads, great cheeses, excellent soups (I had a corn bisque with kernels of raw sweet corn swept through that was delicious), exquisite entrees ranging from vegan options (butternut squash pancakes on black lentils) to ones that will satisfy the most committed carnivore (Nebraska strip steak). Service was considerate and friendly. The art (that rotates through the restaurant every two months) was surprising (in a good way) for a small restaurant in a town of 1200 people: Brenda Grajeda's work was on display, primarily oil and encaustic.

Rena's VRBO property could be a great place for writers, artists, or anyone to go if they (or you) truly don't want anyone to be able to reach them. A great space to think large thoughts.

CONS: There is one bedroom with one bed, and while the bed does sleep two people it is cozy. (Perhaps a double, not a queen?) There is a couch in the living room that folds out to a bed. Three or four inches of loft are added to the sofa's mattress by pumping up the top part. While comfortable, it feels not unlike a water bed rolling under you.

No air conditioning for hot days. No extra blankets for cool nights. There is an otherworldly inaccessibility: no wifi, cell service, internet, or any phone connections, even using voice and data roaming. Occasionally I could squeeze a text message out on my phone, but my friend couldn't get any connection on hers. The DirectTV is finicky.

Worst of all, the owner accused us of breaking a window frame that was broken when we got there. Despite my explanations, she took $100 for the repair from my credit card. Left a very bad taste, to say the least. Not going back.

Owner's Response: Sarah, Again I am sorry for your confusion about the window. The window that was broken was not the one that had a chip out of it, It was the one across from the couch. when I arrived it was laying on the floor with broken Glass. I had to have the Glass company repair it before my next renter that day. I'm still not sure why you would take the windows out of the window frames and set them on the floor, who does that? For your own knowledge, the bed in the bedroom is a very comfortable Queen. I have reviewed you as well for future bookings with VRBO.
