Tranquil and private, a stay here is really like being at your own private retreat!
We are a blissful two minutes away from the noise and hubbub of Pacific Coast Highway but close enough to easily enjoy all that Malibu has to offer.
We are located in the Carbon Canyon area of Malibu, two miles from the beach and the heart of downtown Malibu with shops, markets and restaurants close at hand. Malibu is a large area-- 27 miles with many remote canyons-- but we are centrally located and a mere 20 minutes from Santa Monica (without traffic). Guests can eat dinner at Nobu and be home in less than ten minutes. Our canyon isn't really a "neighborhood"-- no sidewalks or street lights. Lots of wide open space, very few neighbors and an enormous ocean view.
The closest beaches are Carbon Beach (four minutes away) and Surfrider Beach (otherwise known as 'Malibu Beach') two miles to the north.
Surrounded by organic avocado and lemon trees, the one-bedroom pool house has a private patio perfect for relaxation and sunbathing. The pool house is airy and bright and furnished with authentic mid-century furniture. Kitchen and bath are fully stocked. Bathroom features a shower. Super efficient A/C and heat keep the temperature perfect.
Our canyon is rural, quiet and abounding in wildlife. We (a family of three) live in the main house (which is not for rent) and our dear friend Skylar manages all bookings for us. The pool house is completely separate from the main house and quite a distance away.
100% cotton bedding and towels are provided and we use only natural, chemical-free detergent, soaps and cleaning supplies. Full laundry and storage facility for luggage is adjacent to the pool house and is specifically for guests' use. The pool house is Wi-fi equipped and has a Harman Kardon Aura wireless speaker for music but does not have a television. There is a multitude of board and card games, an extensive library of books on Los Angeles and Southern California architecture and history, and binoculars for bird and whale watching. The pool house is the perfect place to decompress and soak up the magical surroundings.
Please READ/PRINT OUT/BRING the email you will receive from VRBO after you book so you have all the necessary check-in information. GPS is not always reliable in Malibu! Please check your itinerary through VRBO for exact directions and instructions. Because of Malibu's rural environment (no street lights and limited signage) we recommend arriving during daylight hours to make the drive easier. CHECK-IN IS BETWEEN 3:00 and 8:00 --- please do not arrive earlier!

THIS PROPERTY IS NOT SUITABLE FOR PARTIES OR EVENTS . NO PHOTO SHOOTS. Due to safety concerns we are unable to accept children under the age of 12.
The pool house is accessed via a long flight of railroad tie and gravel stairs to the left of the main house. The stairs may present a problem for some guests, however, we have hosted several pregnant women in their last weeks of pregnancy and they have not had difficulty.
The pool house comfortably sleeps two people and unfortunately we cannot accommodate more than two people per night. There will be a $100 charge per night for additional over-night guests.
If you plan on having visitors during your stay please advise us of that at the time of booking.
Please-- no pizza delivery men/visitors ringing our doorbell (or our neighbor's). It is your responsibility to give your visitors exact directions on how to find you! We give our guests total privacy and expect the same in return.
Uber and Lyft will not work from the property.
The pool is unheated and the water is warm during the summer and fall months but quite cold in the winter and early spring!
Malibu is an extremely high fire-risk area so please, NO SMOKING anywhere on the property! We really mean this-- if you smoke do not book a stay at our property.
Our neighbors have a very sweet yellow Labrador Retriever who wanders the neighborhood and may visit you in the pool house-- please don't allow her inside! Her fur is difficult to remove from the couch and she has been known to get into trash!
For stays longer than a few days please deposit your trash and recycling in the bins at the top of our driveway. Leaving a week's worth of trash is not okay!

Please park in the driveway apron to the left of the house and use the private set of stairs leading down to the pool house. Please refrain from setting car alarm out of respect for our canyon neighbors. Check-in is between 3:00 and 8:00P.M. Due to Malibu's rural nature we do recommend arriving before dark.

About: We are L.A. natives (Santa Monica to be exact) have lived in many different parts of Malibu since the 1980's but consider Carbon Canyon to be the best. The location is ideal-- not too far from town (Santa Monica) and close to Cross Creek ("downtown" Malibu). And unlike other parts of Malibu Carbon Canyon is the perfect micro- climate, not foggy or windy and the perfect temperature!
Why Malibu, CA, USA:
Privacy, serenity, a stunning view and abundant wildlife make living here a sublime experience. Our property has a secluded, compound-like feel and is like nowhere else.
