Why Bill Mitchell and Susan Janzen chose Central Kootenay K

Susan and I were looking for something that we could do together as a couple. I had owned a fishing camp in a previous life and suggested we look around British Columbia for a small accommodation business. This was the first property that we looked at on our vacation the summer of 2003 through southern BC and to Vancouver Island. On our way back home we decided to have another look.

The trip had been noisy and the traffic was heavy every where we went. As we turned off to go south to Nakusp, we immediately noticed that the traffic dropped off to nothing. We pulled up to the ferry landing, shut off the engine and got out of the truck. Our ears were assaulted by the amazing quiet and stillness. While waiting at the ferry landing we realized that there was only one small fishing boat on the lake for as far as the eye could see. The ferry itself gives you the sense that you are entering a different part of the Province.

All other places in BC disappeared from our minds and Rock Island Resort became ours shortly after.

Exactly what we were looking for

  • 5 of 5

We loved our little weekend getaway from the city. The cabin is well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The views and surroundings were truly stunning. We had coffee on the water both mornings while our dog played fetch. Not sure who loved it more, him or us.

One thing to note: No cell service in cabin (Telus or Rogers), and wifi is free but limited to 500mb per day. Download your movies before you go, or watch some classics from provided in the cabin.

I can't say enough good things about my four day stay at Bill and Susan's cabins, at Arrow lake. The cabins were very clean and cozy. The property is beautiful, and well kept. Everyone was so friendly. Out of 5 stars, I give it a 6. I plan on booking with them again next summer.

I had a wonderful relaxing vacation, thank you. Katrina

Peaceful and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four had a restful time staying in this lovely, quiet spot. We enjoyed the water and wildlife just steps from our front door, and awoke to the call of the loons. The cabin contained all necessary amenities, and charming Nakusp was a short, 20 minute drive away. This place afforded all the things we wanted to escape from the city and recharge. The hosts, Bill and Susan, were kind and attentive. We couldn’t have chosen a better retreat.
