Haleakala Princess Estate is a very unique vacation rental in Upcountry Maui. This home was designed for Abigail Kapiolani Kawananakoa and has been lovingly restored by the current owner. Careful attention has been paid to every detail, from the gardens to the interior and exterior of both the Main House and the Guest Cottage.

There are two homes on this property – a three bedroom main house and the two bedroom guest cottage. Each are well separated from the other, with separate gated entrance, separate parking, private hot-tub, and private yard / garden area. The cottage faces up to Haleakala, while the Main House faces down to the ocean.

The most amazing feature at the Guest Cottage is the huge outdoor deck which looks down over a gorgeous garden. This garden area has a large redwood hot-tub, with a small trickling waterfall next to it, lounge chairs, and a table/chairs for “dining in the garden”. This entire side of the property is for the private use of our cottage guests. The huge tiled deck has another dining set, chairs, and a gas BBQ.

The Guest Cottage has two bedrooms (king, queen beds), two full bathrooms (both with showers), a spacious living room / dining area, and full kitchen.

The bed linens are soft and luxurious. Sink into the comfy bed, and enjoy an amazing night of sleep. This is definitely not the city, and the only thing you’ll hear are the sigh of the wind, and the sounds of the birds.

To be sure that you stay comfy year round, the cottage has both heat and A/C. You probably won’t use it, since it’s so nice with the doors wide open, but it’s there if you want it.

This property has a vacation rental permit issued by the County of Maui, and is subject to the rules and restrictions imposed by the County for all short term rental homes. Please understand that we would be unable to accept a rental that does not agree to abide by these rules. Note: properties without a short term rental permit are subject to closure by the County.

1. Neighbors - Please be considerate of our neighbors. Noise carries easily to their homes, particularly in the evening. NO loud music, NO parties, NO amplified sound of any nature at any time. Many neighbors must be up early in the morning to go to work, and it’s important that your use of this property does not impact them in any way.

2. Quiet Hours - Quiet time is from 9pm to 8am.

3. Use of the Property - Additional friends/family CANNOT be invited to the property and it cannot be used as a “meeting place”. The property can be used ONLY by the guests listed on the rental agreement. The County law allows us to accommodate a maximum of two guests x the number of bedrooms.

4. Parking - There is plenty of parking on the property. Vehicles CANNOT be parked on the street at any time. When vehicles are on the street, there is insufficient space for emergency vehicles, fire trucks, the trash truck or neighbors to get down the road.

Additional information with respect to care and maintenance of the house will be included in the rental agreement.

We turned around, and did a full refurbishing, updating every detail to a condition that we think the Princess would have appreciated. WE look forward to sharing this special home with you.

There is something magical about this property. The cottage has such a beautiful garden setting, and the main house has an ocean view that will almost make you cry. I can't think of a better place to own a property in Maui.

Extra special cottage exceeded our expectations!

We have been to Maui no less than 10 times and found ourselves interested in staying Upcountry this time. I made our reservations way back in early Spring and Melody of MVP asked pertinent questions and suggested the Princess Cottage. As stated in my title, our expectations were exceeded. The attention to detail is obvious by the degree of quality of, for instance, the outdoor furniture! I know, I know, its just outdoor furniture...but I have a great appreciation for outstanding choices, like the type & style & variety that is included! Its so dreamy to just relax at the property, take a hot tub, then read a book, turn on the waterfall & just soak it all in! And that is what we did! The landscaping and hardscape is second to none - all well maintained & manicured to the highest standards. What an estate! We typically dine out several times during our Maui stays, but this time, with the cottage's nice kitchen & bbq we dined in & enjoyed the beautiful setting out at the "high table" overlooking the grounds; complete with tiki torches! Just amazing to sit & dine & sip wine & soak it all in! Fine linen, well kept interior --- and what appears to be a beautiful new couch in the living room made hanging out after dinner delightful. We don't have cable TV where we live at home, so a couple of evenings we enjoyed a movie or two! Very comfy - lighting perfect! What more can I say...we'd love to come back with family & rent the big house too as its view is truly amazing from what we could see! We loved UPcountry cool evenings & the 20- 25 min drive to the beach was very scenic & no bad at all. Loved Baldwin Beach in Paia. Mahalo to the owners for allowing the divine estate to be rented.

Perfect tropical getaway

This rental property is such a great place to stay. There is just so much to say about it its too hard to know where to start!

Its such a quiet area with such a large property for you to spread your feet. The temperature is perfect this far up Haleakala for the hot sticky tropical days. The gardens are perfect for a private residence, we were advised that this property was built for a Hawaiian princess so it could not disappoint. The residences have been built to accentuate their positions and individual privacy. Private outdoor hot tub works so well in the cool afternoons while you listen to the waterfall surrounded by the tiki torches you can turn on at your leisure.

In the warm afternoons you can open the bi fold doors to let a cooling breeze through while reading a book or sipping cocktails. Otherwise you can go fruit picking throughout the orchard, we picked quite a few giant avocadoes!

Location is central but not at the same time. We liked that it was a short drive to the Hana highway, where it would be a lot longer from the south or west side of the island, though it was also a good size drive to the south and west. In saying that, the Hana highway is such a long and windy drive it is definitely worth cutting off 30 minutes to an hour.

Very short drive to the volcano summit and lots of hikes on the way.

The property management was particularly helpful.

Loved our stay.

I can’t emphasis enough how much we loved staying at the Haleakala Princess cottage! It was a delight from the moment we walked in to the moment we left! It was a perfect place for 2 adults and would have been a bit crowded with 4 people. So, we are so glad no one joined us! Our favorite thing to do was to relax at the cottage, enjoy the hot tub and cook easy meals on the grill. However, we did go for an outing every day and our favorite was Haleakala National Park and the near-by winery.

Thank you for your special attention to details - perfectly clean beds, pillows, and blankets, floors, rugs, etc. The heating pads on the beds were a plus when the nights got chilly.

Kula is the most scenic of Maui's rural upcountry villages. It has a slow pace, and truly encourages you to relax and unwind.

Haleakala Princess Estate is in the small rural town of Kula. Kula can be considered the 'heart' of Upcountry. The climate here is cooler, with mists swirling in the valleys and groves of eucalyptus sheltering pastures full of cattle. Kula is also the habitat of the exotic Protea flowers and several farms grow acres of the many different varieties that are shipped all over the world. Kula onions are said to be among the sweetest in the world. As you drive through Kula, you'll see pasture land with cows, horses, goats or sheep, farm land with flowers, vegetables, lavender, or fruits.

The Tedeschi Winery in Ulupalukua is Hawaii's only vineyard. Stop and taste the Tedeschi products at the historic little stone tasting room, which was once a jail. The immaculate grounds, landscaped with 100-year-old trees, are a great place for a loaf of bread, a bottle of wine and a designated driver! But the crowning jewel is the summit of 10,023 foot Haleakala. From here, the sunrise is like no place else on earth.
