Furnished 2BR/1BA in San Francisco
Description from the owner
2BR/1BA is located near the junction of Nob Hill, Pacific Heights and Van Ness/Civic Center neighborhoods. Grace Cathedral and Union Square are within walking distance and less than a block from the California Street cable car line and a new Trader Joe's. Several bus lines, including lines 1, 19, 47 and 49, are readily accessible. Neighborhood has many garaged parking possibilities, including overnight within a block.
Our vacation rental is classic central San Francisco. The location is unbeatable!
Great price and sleeps 4.
The shower situation is annoying. The curtain is claustrophobic and no drain plug for my son who has never seen a claw foot tub and was so bummed to not take a bath in it. The beds are awful. The location is ideal but for another $35, I'd get something a little nicer.
My family stayed her for 4 nights. We have 2 grown sons and all of us agreed that we would stay at this location again, and we would recommend it as well. My husband and I lived in SF 20 years ago and staying here made us feel like natives again. But, we would want anyone to know what they will be getting into by staying here. I may repeat what other s have said, but here goes
What was good -
Near to cable car lines.
Polk street with lots of restaurants and shops is just 2 blocks away.
Large bedrooms - we had to bring a blow up mattress since my sons won't share a bed and it fit well in the 2nd bedroom just fine.
Needs work -
I would suggest more pillows in each bedroom.
Also, if mirrors were added in each bedroom, I would not have had to do my make-up and hair in the kitchen while someone else was using the bathroom.
I agree screens would be nice for the windows
Corkscrew in kitchen was broken, needs replacing
Sheets kept coming off the beds...Bed Bands (sold on Amazon) would fix this problem.
The hot water in the bathroom was too hot and there was no plug for the sink.
All in all, I would call this a no-frills apt, but with such a great price and location, I would recommend it for those willing to put up with the stairs and other things. I feel like if the owners put a little more effort into making the apt more comfortable, I would have rated this 4 stars.
Agree completely with prior review - Great internet / appropriate price / good location. Not so good - steep stairs should be mentioned in the listing. We booked before there were any reviews and one of our party struggled with the stairs. Smells were pretty strong. No screens on windows and no way to prop the windows up. The apartment was clean, but the stairway was very dirty so you don't want to put your luggage down on the way up. Shower rod fell down every time the curtain moved.
Pros: 1) Location -- Nob Hill is centrally located, making it easy to access all of San Fran proper. The apartment is just around the corner from a Trader Joe's for groceries, as well as the California cable car line, and about 5 blocks from the other 2 cable car lines. 2) Price -- accomodations in SF are expensive. 3) Good WiFi. 4) Has the bare basics for those who need a convenient place to crash at night.
Cons: 1) 3rd floor -- one must climb tree flights of stairs with your luggage. I could handle it, but weaker folks would have difficulty. 2) Smells -- the residents apparently do a lot of stir-frying, leaving a strong odor of rancid oil in the stairwell, and permeating into the apartment. 3) Beds are low-end, no box springs, just metal frame and single cheap mattress. That was fine for me, but my sister-in-law has a bad back and had to leave for a hotel room after the first night. 4) The window frame in one of the bedrooms is rotting, and the window rattles loudly when the wind blows, making sleep difficult. 5) The tub has a ceiling-suspended shower curtain rod that kept coming apart at inopportune times.
Summary: I would stay there again because I am budget-minded, strong enough to haul luggage upstairs, and can sleep on cheap beds. We used the cable cars quite a bit, but they run irregularly and sometimes are too crowded to jump aboard. The window and shower curtain should be fixed by the management, but don't know what can be done about the odor.
