We’re a great option for those visiting friends and family, here for medical visits, moving or relocating, renovating your home or dealing with . Less than 5 minutes to NRGH and VIU and 10 minutes to North Nanaimo.
The Chart House is a 1000 square foot, beachhouse themed, completely renovated, tastefully furnished, ocean view, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, home with all new everything! Beautiful kitchen with stainless steel appliances. Comfy living room with two couches, gas fireplace and 46” LED Smart TV with HD programming. 3 bedrooms with a king bed and 32” LED Smart TV with HD programming, queen bed and a double bed to choose from. Down duvets, fair trade coffee, WIFI, washer and dryer. Small, private, fully fenced yard with deck, Adirondack chairs, gas BBQ and picnic table . All this across from Newcastle Channel and the Harbourside Walkway. Short stroll from Departure Bay Ferry and Downtown Nanaimo. And we’ll even provide housekeeping every 3rd day!
Enjoy a meal at home in your lovely new kitchen with stainless steel fridge, stove/oven and dishwasher. Or visit one of the four waterfront restaurants and pubs within 5 minutes walk of the Chart House, including Beefeaters Steak and Seafood Restaurant and Carlos O’Bryans Irish Pub.

About Dave Ilyn
We love travelling. It is our family's passion. We continue to travel extensively and when we're not, we live vicariously through the stories of fellow travelers. We settled in Nanaimo in 1996 and have owned and operated the neighbouring Buccaneer Inn in Nanaimo since. In 2013 we purchased the home next to our motel and completely renovated and rejuvenated The Chart House. It's a great little place! We love living in, and sharing our passion of, Nanaimo, Vancouver Island and the places we've travelled to. We've been involved in tourism industry in Nanaimo for many years and have a large pool of knowledge about travelling around and enjoying Vancouver Island. We coveted owning this home since the day we purchased The Buccaneer Inn. It's central location in Nanaimo and the fact that it is next to our motel meant it was the best property for us to offer vacation renters and those looking for a roomier, extended stay alternative to our suites at The Buccaneer. .
What makes this Bungalow unique
We really loved the central location of this home in Nanaimo. It's a great spot to base yourself to tour Nanaimo and Vancouver Island. Also a good location if you need to stay for a hospital visit, dealing with a house insurance claim or visiting your kids at Vancouver Island University. We loved the character of the house. Coved ceilings. Loads of windows that give it a bright, warm feeling. Like the private yard that lets one enjoy a warm, sunny spot to read, BBQ or sunbathe. We enjoy the views of Newcastle Channel, Newcastle Island and the 3 palm trees next door at our motel. Gives us the feeling we're on an Island with a nice, mild climate! Though we bought this home and renovated it with the intention of offering it to others, we would gladly live here!

A Welcoming place to relax
We were stuck with needing to stay somewhere for a few weeks before moving into our new home, the Charthouse at the buccaneer was fantastic, had everything we needed to feel normal for a time. It was comfortable, clean spacious and warm, we even managed to bake a few cakes! Dave and Marlene couldn’t have been friendlier and more accommodating and the location was great for getting places. Would recommend it highly

Nice Stay - Suitable for a family
My family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children) stayed a week at the house. Having previously stayed at their Inn, I expected and received a very clean and welcoming property. We very much appreciated that they took the time to open the windows ahead of time so that when we arrived it was cool and breezy. There's a lovely breeze and they provide several floor and ceiling fans for hot days but also throw blankets for cool evenings. This property is managed differently than other rental homes we've stayed in; in a good way. They provided mid-week cleaning and a generous starter supply of laundry soap, liquid hand soap, dish soap & detergent, coffee, etc. The BBQ is not located in the immediate fenced in yard but rather in an adjoining fenced in yard. This was ok but not as expected and we only used it once. The washer is older but cleaned our clothes well; the dryer will need replacing soon as it took a long time to dry a small load (90 mins). The décor is great. Be prepared to sort your garbage, recycling, and compost. We were a little unsure about what was garbage or recycling...hope we did it correctly! There's a lot of parks and family activities within a short drive but the hidden gem was the large playground only a few minutes walk away just up the hill behind the house. Thank you for a lovely stay, we recommend this property and their Inn and would absolutely stay again.

There is, as you note, lots of things to see and do in close proximity to the Chart House and we’re glad that you enjoyed the great neighbourhood park.
We do manage the Chart House differently than other vacation homes. We’ve set the house up so that it offers the things that we think help make a holiday great including a little mid-week clean to freshen up the bedding, your towels and the home. Always nice to come back from a day out to a spruced up place .
You did a great job with the recycling! Nanaimo has a very robust recycling, composting and waste diversion program and it has recently changed and lots of folks are a little unsure of where everything should go.
Sorry about the BBQ. We had to have it repaired while you were staying and are happy to report that it is now back in it’s rightful spot on the private BBQ deck attached to the house. Sorry for any inconvenience.

A fresh and clean rental property.
We found our stay to be very pleasant. The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful with directions and tourist information. The house is spotless and very comfortable. We only had use of the backyard one day. (rain) We felt very welcome and very comfortable.

Nice and service minded hosts
First we stayed 4 of us in the three studios - very good! Then we came back for additional studio stay. We were now a party of six, two adults and four adult children. The very kind hosts had moved us to this very nice 2 Bdrm/2 Btrm. Now we could be together as the familien we are. Well equipped kitchen and spacious enough for all 6 to be seated for nice breakfasts. With our rental car it was easy to get to sightseeing on the island. We would recommend this house!

Great stay, will be back
Stayed for a week with 2 adult children. House very well equipped for cooking, laundry and spacious enough for 3 of us not to kill each other! Very clean, great linens, comfy beds, private deck and yard and BBQ access. Hosts very welcoming and charming. Location good; close walk to bars, liquor store, marinas and restaurants. Owners' commitment to environmental products made me happy! We'd defiantly recommend this house and will be back...
