Seated at the top of Berkeley Hills, this flat is the first floor of a private house that overlooks the entire Bay Area. From the Golden Gate Bridge and the night-lights of San Francisco to the clouds rolling over mountains, the view is not only spectacular, but also different every time you look. Such views can be enjoyed from the living room, the dining room, and the large deck right outside. The deck is equipped with outdoor furniture and built-in wooden bench seats to enjoy the spectacular sunsets.
Both bedrooms are spacious and have queen size beds and large closets. There is a full sized kitchen equipped with a stove, oven, full-size fridge, new microwave, and new dishwasher. The newly renovated bathroom has a shower tub combination along with a toilet and vanity sink. When the sun has gone down and the lights are shimmering in the background, the 43-inch plasma TV in the living room---with recently redone floors---is perfect for a family movie night.
A 2-minute drive away is Tilden Regional Park: a great destination for hiking, cycling and golfing. The Brazilian room is half a mile away and Lake Anza is a mile from the property. With a bus stop right below, you can take it or drive to Solano Ave or North Berkeley’s Gourmet Ghetto, where you can enjoy shopping and dining. The surrounding areas have a high number of fine eating establishments such as Crepevine, Chez Panisse, and Philz Coffee. There are plenty of cafes, bakeries, galleries, and other shops to visit too.
U.C. Berkeley is 3 miles away and offers a beautiful campus and botanical garden. Grizzly Peak Boulevard is a scenic drive to the highway. San Francisco, Sausalito, and Napa Valley are less an hour drive away.
The door is at the side of the house and has many stairs leading to it, but the view is worth the effort. This is not the right rental for those who cannot walk up and down stairs. Street parking is available in front of the stairs entrance and down the street.

Raymond and Jackie were attentive but not intrusive. View was unbelievable.
We discovered that the toilet was leaking at the base within minites of checking in. No more than two hours later, it had been fixed by a plumber and worked great. Credit to Raymond and Jackie for taking care of business. I highly recommend this place for any San Francisco area stays.
Not exactly as advertised.
My wife and I are college professors in Portland,, Oregon. We rented this VRBO listing during the 2017 Christmas vacation.
The unit is a converted basement apartment in a house situated in the Berkeley Hills, overlooking the city and bay. It is reached via a series of stairs from the street above. The picture on VRBO ("Breathtaking Bay Area, etc.) appears to be taken from the house above, not the basement unit, from which the "breathtaking view" is somewhat obstructed by trees on the property below. Most disappointing, because of the high placement of the living room windows, the (obstructed) view can only be seen when standing. You cannot enjoy the view when sitting in the living room.
The unit is minimally (but adequately) decorated, furnished and provisioned. It consists of a small living room (couch, 3 chairs, two small tables, TV and a non-working gas cast-iron stove in the corner (adequate heat is supplied by electric heaters). There is a tiny dining room (table, 3 chairs, bench), and two bedrooms in back (each with comfortable queen bed, side tables; one with dresser, one with desk and chair). The unit is quite dark, especially the bedrooms in back, which have painted cinderblock walls. There is a galley kitchen that is minimally (but adequately) furnished and applianced, though only 4 wine glasses, 4 drinking glasses.
There is a large outside wooden deck with table and chairs that would be pleasant to sit at in warmer weather, with a better view. The hot tub on the deck is not available, and would be a plus if it worked.
There is limited street parking for a single car. The unit is suitable if you want easy access (by car) to Berkeley. But this is not really a place you would stay to relax: it's too small and dark, and has too few amenities. The owners upstairs are helpful; there is occasional light foot traffic above.
The listing appears to be a fairly new, inexpensive renovation. It would be more suitable as a longterm rental (at a much lower monthly rate) than as a much more expensive, per-day, vacation rental. Of our five Berkeley/Oakland vacation rentals over the years, it is the only one we would not recommend.
The trees are slightly tall. It was suppose to be trimmed a couple months back. But due to rain and mud, it is dangerous to get onto the trees. I assure you that the photos are taken from the downstairs unit. As for parking, there is one street parking spot next to the stairs and some more on the street. A neighbor had an event the day that you arrived and thus most of the parking spots were taking. The hot tub has never been advertised.
The unit is not considered a basement as the entire unit is still above ground, as it is the on the same level as the deck overlooking the bay. As stated, the unit is the lower part of a duplex that is situated on a slope., which may have mislead you to think that it is a basement.
Wonderful location and view!
Fantastic location and deck view. Inside could have been in nicer condition but it was more spacious than I was expecting and everything was in very good working order.
Very nice view in a quiet part of Berkley
We were in town for a conference, so we didn't spend too much time at the rental, but it was very nicely situated. It was also pretty big for the price.
Great views, quiet location
Had a great stay at this property. When the weather is clear, the views are fantastic. Beds were comfy, and having a full kitchen is always nice. The living area is a little short on seating, but if you have a small group it works fine. It's really quiet on this street, without any security, traffic or congestion concerns. Plenty of room to park on the street. It only takes 6 or 7 minutes to make your way down the hill into Berkeley.
The house was in need of updating. The kitchen was lacking in general. The view was SICK!!! The beds were very comfy! Thank you very much!
