Why Sue chose Black Hills

This cabin is far enough out of town to see the beautiful stars, and enjoy the peace and quiet. But close enough to make a quick trip if you forgot that last minute item.

What makes this cabin unique

Right now, this is the only cabin we have on the property. So you will be able to enjoy it without any neighbors!

Thank you Sue for the wonderful stay at your cute little cabin. We were packed in tight as we had 2 adults /2kids but we loved it! We were really only there to sleep and have breakfast bc the sights are awesome!

Perfect cabin for two! Loved it

  • 4 of 5

The owner was very nice, the place was cute and we loved the decor. The only issue was the hot water was not working properly, but the owner was very accommodating and let us use the shower in the main inn! I would definitely come back again.

Beautiful, very well decorated and well laid out tiny cabin.

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed here over Labor Day weekend. It's very close to Custer State Park, Crazy Horse mountain, and an easy drive to Mt. Rushmore. It's just outside Custer, which has a grocery store and restaurants. It's quiet, because you don't have neighbors right next to and above you. The cabin is tiny, but very well laid out. Stay here with someone you like!

It is clean and well equipped to cook or grill. The shower is phenomenal, with good water pressure and nice hot water. The towels are big and fluffy.

The bed was a little too firm for me, but I like squishy pillowtop mattresses.

We would stay here again any time! Its much more fun and interesting than a room in a big chain hotel, for sure.

Nice small 'tiny cabin' for 2 people, close to all the sites in South Dakota

  • 4 of 5

My best friend and I stayed at Sue's rental property for 2 nights during our South Dakota vacation. It was close to downtown Custer, so you could easily access the grocery store, gas stations, visitors centers, shops, etc. It was a short and beautiful drive to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, the Black Hills National Forest, and Custer State Park. The cabin itself is very small. It has a queen size bed with a pull out trundle, so it technically sleeps 4, but it would be very cramped in there with more than 2 people. Ideal for a couple or very close friends. The floors were new, bathroom was nice and a decent size, and overall the place was clean and had all the necessities needed. However, we were there in the middle of August and one of the nights it was unseasonably cold. There is not heat source in the cabin or extra blankets. The house is raised off the ground but not insulated very well. It was very cold! I would recommend Sue having a spare space heater for guests to use. This would have significantly made us more comfortable at night and in the morning. Also, the kitchen had most tools needed to cook and grill dinner, but no cutting board. That may be a good addition to the cabin as well. Overall, it met our needs in SD. Thank you Sue!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. I was out of town for work when you stayed. If I had ANY idea it could be cold, I would have put in a space heater, which I keep in the storeroom in the house. A cutting board is a great idea. Thanks.

Small, but large enough with deer and peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5

This small cabin proved up to the task. From it, you are close to so many places including Wind cave, Jewel cave, Custer state park, lake Sylvan, and Harney peak!

The cabin had what we needed and was very clean. We mini golfed and ate in Custer, but primarily cooked on the grill at the cabin. Sue, the owner, was responsive to questions and even suggested some places to check out while here.

Two windows and the ceiling fan worked great to keep us comfortable while here, though there is an AC Hbit as well which we did not use beyond the first evening!

property is comfortable and as advertised. Two people are the maximum for this property. Clean and well maintained with a great location just outside Custer. Sue was quick to respond to our questions. One suggestion. A small dresser or hooks on wall to hang or store clothes. An enjoyable time.
