About the property

One Of Four Large Sunny Suites, With Retro Kitchen & Bathroom

In 2013 the Hudson Milliner Guesthouse & Inn opened as a refuge for urbanites in search of refined comfort in classical surroundings. The refined details of each room heighten the awareness of precious moments passing into a weekend of bliss accompanied by the innumerable pleasures of the modern world.

The Hudson Milliner Guesthouse & Inn is located on Warren Street, the main thoroughfare of Hudson. This proximity to the town's restaurants, shops, and bars allows guest to enjoy a car-free and carefree getaway a mere two-hours from New York City.

All rooms have high-speed internet and central air.

About Charlotta Janssen

Charlotta is a painter and restauranteur, who grew up in Iran and Germany. Her paintings tour the States and they are inspired by the police mug shots of the heroic Bus Boycotters and Freedom Riders from the '50's and '60's. Her restaurants Chez Oskar and Lola are located in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.

Shannon is an advertising photographer from New York City, who challenges big waves, plays street basketball and studies jiu jitsu whenever he isn't shooting a photograph or renovating a gorgeous building.

Charlotta Janssen purchased this apartment in 2011

Why Charlotta Janssen chose Hudson Valley

Great for urbanites in need of sun, space, luxury, antiques, fine dining, nature walks & culture: located on the main drag of Warren Street, it's a 10 minute walk from the train station. Once a milliner's hat shop built in 1860, you are transported straight into another time the moment you enter. Many original details are still in place: pre-tin plaster moldings, solid mahogany stairwells, pocket doors with etched glass inlay, large mahogany framed windows and gorgeous hardwood floors. The kitchen and bathrooms have been carefully renovated to fit in style with carefully selected and restored fixtures, such as an electric stove from the forties and a refrigerator from that period as well. Add central air, high speed internet and a washer/dryer on premise: the perfect getaway.

What makes this apartment unique

As busy New Yorkers we understand the need for R & R. We liked the idea of a B&B, but had something a bit more intimate in mind: a romantic place, going back in time, where our guests could come into town, immediately immerse into the surroundings and also if need be withdraw and cook for themselves in a spacious retro kitchen. In another words: a romantic spacious getaway with the beauty of clean air and a country vibe along with the luxury of great restaurants, live entertainment and quality antiquing/shopping

Lovely little rooms, clean and welcoming let down only by dim lighting and noisy mail vans behind

  • 4 of 5

We would recommend the milliner and will return again - we stayed 3 nights in total comfort in a truly friendly town. The apartment was immaculately clean, hot water came instantly, bed was comfy and decor had actual character

Strangely the lights in the kitchen were all working but extraordinarily dim - we did hunt for a dimmer and didn't find one. Possible we're stupid.

Only fly in the ointment was a us mail parking lot by the window which lead to one night (and only one) waking us up with reversing beeps.

Still way quieter than you'd get in Manhattan, and the milliner is the centre of warren Street, which is the centre of Hudson. We came without a car, and didn't miss it.

Thanks 🙂

Unique and unlike any place we have ever stayed.

  • 5 of 5

Our family took over the Milliner and enjoyed our stay. The location is perfect. The beds are very comfortable. We liked the Tanzy for breakfast. We were in town for a wedding at the Hill. Guests stayed in various places around Hudson. Everyone agreed that the Milliner was the best place to stay!

Hudson Milliner: Fedora Room

  • 4 of 5

Loved the space and the art.

It was clean and the bed was very comfortable.

The location was excellent and convenient.

The oven runs very hot, so be careful: it is extremely easy to burn what's baking.

I would definitely stay here again.

Hudson is a gorgeous little town, full of antiques beyond compare, a plethora of restaurants, live entertainment, surrounded by lush country farms, nature resorts, right next to skiing resorts in the Catskills. Notable is Olana, estate of Frederick Church, who's views have been memorialized in his work and protected the region as well as the Thomas Kohl House in Catskill.
