About Francois & Marie Gregoire

Mary is American (born in New York), Francois is French (born in Lorraine).

We met near San Francisco, where we worked from 1986 to 2005.

We purchased the property in Aix en Provence in 2003, restored it in 2004/2005, and moved in 2005.

Francois & Marie Gregoire purchased this villa in 2003

Why Francois & Marie Gregoire chose Aix en Provence

We have lived in the Pavilion for more than 11 years and made it a very comfortable home.

We hope every guest staying with us will enjoy the comfort and quietness we almost take for granted.

Awake in the morning with the song of birds, go for a ride to the nearby park, jump in the pool, discover the local market and the beauty of the town, and visit all the beautiful sites Provence has to offer, are some of the pleasures awaiting you.

We are committed to making your experience very special.

What makes this villa unique

Located in a renowned college town and surrounded by 12 ha (30 acres) of park and gardens, with century old trees, fountains and a spectacular 25m infinity pool.

Combines the benefits of city life and the tranquillity of country living.

It is the ideal place to relax for a week or two, with easy access to freeway and downtown.

Lovely sanctuary near Aix-en-Provence

  • 5 of 5

Pavillon de la Torse was the perfect venue for our family reunion in Provence. The villa itself is a grand period home in wonderfully restored condition that easily accommodated the 8 of us in comfort and style. The grounds are amazing particularly the soaring plane trees and manicured lawns around the pool. Unfortunately it was a little too cool for a swim, but we could imagine this being the ideal summer retreat. The location is perfect - on the edge of town, within a riverside park which was great for our early morning stroll and that rural feel, but also close enough to local shops and about 1km walk into the centre of town for restaurants, galleries and more extensive shopping. Aix is well located with the hilltop towns of the Luberon all within one hour's drive. Our hosts Marie and Francois we very helpful on check in with lots of advice about the local area, including the sensational Carrieres de Lumiere at Les Baux, a must-see light and sound display in an ancient underground quarry. All in all, a very successful week at this impressive venue.

10 on a 10 scale.

We chose the Pavillon for a family venture for three generations. There was something for everyone. First Marie and Francois cound not have been a better start. They had brochures and maps for both Aix and the surronding countryside plus their 30 minute tour of the vicinity. The house was perfesct for the 10 of us with great kitchen facilities and a large dinning area for us all to get together at the end of the day to share our experiences. The rooms were well appointed and had all the amenities needed. Especially great was the pool and lawn area whcih became the family meeting place at the end of the day to share the days experiences. Many many great memories. We are thinking of doing it again next summer just to get to all the wonderful places surrounding Aix that we did not get to in our week stay. congratulation to Marie and Francois on a great venue for Aix.

Surpassed all expectations!

  • 5 of 5

Our week in Aix with our adult children and spouses/partners was a special anniversary/birthday celebration. The pictures of La Torse (the name of the villa) on VRBO are spectacular but truly do not do justice to this magnificent 300 year old, beautifully restored home and surrounding gardens. Although the property is within the city of AIX, it feels as if it is in the country due to the expanse of the gardens and privacy created by the towering shade trees and manicured plantings. The walk into the most desirable part of downtown is 15 - 20 minutes at most and while it is not the most beautiful walk, we did it many times both during the day and night after dinner with no problem.

Marie and Francois are an absolute delight. They are friendly, informative and attentive and clearly take pride in their home and made every effort to insure we had a memorable stay.

We highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a first class vacation in Aix En Provence.

Gorgeous Building and Gardens within walking distance to Aix-en-Provence

  • 5 of 5

Words or pictures cannot do justice to the beauty of the gardens, the tree-lined entrance and the villa. Both the bastide and the gardens are truly amazing and clearly well taken care of. Mary and Francois took us on a tour of both the house and gardens when we arrived, showing us how everything worked and pointing out places of interest in Aix and around Provence. They provided us with maps and restaurant recommendations and then left us to thoroughly enjoy our vacation. All rooms, except many one, are cozy and look out onto the gardens. The bathrooms are a good size. The kitchen was very well equipped and we had several lunches and dinners on the terrace enjoying the gardens and the fountains. I will definitely be back. All rooms have double beds, with the option of an additional two beds in the loft area of 2 rooms; giving us 7 spaces for our girls' getaway vacation. The property makes you feel as though you are in countryside, but it is located about 1/2 mile from the historic center of Aix. Although we did have a car, a few times I walked or took the #3 bus to the center to avoid the hassle of parking in the center.
