About the property

5 bedroom/4 bath farmhouse on 23 acres overlooking Weston Lake with private dock

This old farmhouse sits on 23 acres and offers a chance to relax with a good book, take a long walk, or practice your backstroke in beautiful Weston Lake. The house offers plenty of room for friends and family gatherings.

This large home has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, an eat-in kitchen, family room and living room. Fabulous views of the lake and the short path that leads you to our private dock (shared only with the farm manager and one other tenant on the property). There is a wood stove in the Family Room and Fireplace /w insert in the Living Room.

Guests will have access to the whole house, yard and all areas of the property (except pastures occupied by the Dexter cattle), including the wooded areas, and the private path leading directly to the Salt Spring Cheese Farm right next door.

We bought this old farmhouse a couple of years ago and are bringing back interesting details and removing the 70's decor. We are a work in progress. If you like HGTV, you'll appreciate our efforts. We've kept the pricing low as we take on this great project.

Mike and I live in Santa Cruz, California. In our life stateside, Mike is an IT director at UCSC, and I help nonprofit organizations to develop bricks and mortar projects that sustain their operations.

Mike and I both grew up in the Bay Area, and before settling back in the area I had lived in Los Angeles, New Jersey and Boston.

Why Kim Frentz Edmonds chose The Islands

Having spent quite a lot of time on Salt Spring for family vacations when the kids were small, I dreamed of having a place on a lake that could serve as a gathering place as our children grew up and became more geographically diverse.

I have always been interested in gardening and have made more farming connections over the last couple of years. While I was taking a 12 month course on permaculture this property became available. Although it seemed outside the realm of possibility, we were able to purchase this amazing property and are excited to share its beauty, and the experience of a working farm, with others.

Beautiful spot by the lake on Salt Spring Island

Three families joined together for a week in this large and comfortable farmhouse. We were 11 in total and it couldn't have been more perfect. The house is located on a beautiful property with close lake access and a private jetty. The lake is warm and great for swimming. The house is part of a small working farm run by the caretakers of the house, who were very welcoming and available throughout our stay. The house is large and very well equipped and everything we needed was there. A short walk through the farm leads to the renowned Salt Spring Island cheese company and across the road you can buy fresh farm produce. The house is a great base for exploring the island, close to Ruckle Park and Mount Maxwell. Ganges is a short drive away. That being said, it's tempting to not even leave the property! We thoroughly enjoyed our week there and would definitely come again.

A great old-fashioned farmhouse!

Our stay at the lakefront farm exceeded our expectations and our group of 6 adults and 1 child really enjoyed our time there this summer. The first impression of the home as we drove up to the expansive property grounds promised great times and it didn't disappoint. The inside has a very spacious, rustic, homey feel as if you were in your grandparent's old farmhouse. We found that the rough-around-the-edges feel of the place let us enjoy the space more freely than if we had to worry about any fancy finishes or furniture. The kitchen is huge and we found all that we needed. There are several large living rooms, comfortable beds, a nice patio to sit on. The private access to the lake was great for adults and kids alike. We had fun trying our luck fishing from the dock. The farm is on a huge property with lots of opportunity to explore. The neighbouring goat cheese and farm produce stands are very convenient and were of high quality.

Come with expectations of having all your basic needs met but do not expect luxurious finishes. In several areas renovations are still a work in progress and as with older homes there may be some need for repairs while you are there. However, the grounds keepers are very friendly, approachable and responsive. There were four bathrooms and in one we had trouble getting hot water in the shower for example. Also the canoe by the lake was in rough shape with a slow leak. It would be a nice touch to upgrade the kitchen cookware one notch higher quality, and we found that with so many miscellaneous cupboards and contents some of the items had gathered a bit of a dust layer.

That said, I would whole-heartedly recommend this property to others and our family would love to come back for another stay.

July 2015 Family Vacation

We had a wonderful time at your farm property. It suited our family requirements just perfectly. The farm house has a very comforting feel, and it was great to have such a lovely location that accommodated us all. We all loved the giant kitchen, with plenty of room for us to prepare our meals together. We were so glad that you were accepting of our extra needs. Recommended your property to a few people and perhaps you will see us again some year. Would love to visit again after the completion of renovations, bringing this location up to an all round 5-star accommodation. The farm manager was delightful. The perfect person to welcome guests and take care of your home. Thank you.

With Weston Lake out our front door, Salt Spring Cheese Farm next door and Stowell Lake Farm (complete with event space and yoga retreats) across the street, what's not to love. Take a quick 5 minute drive down to Fulford and get coffee or lunch, or grab the ferry to Victoria. Turn right at the end of the road and take Beaver Pt. Road straight to Ruckle Provincial Park.
