A 648 sq ft private deck is the perfect place to enjoy the Seattle sun, and gather for drinks with friends before heading out to a nearby restaurant.

Enjoying nearly 20 years on Capitol Hill, I have seen and been a part of many changes in the neighborhood. Giving restaurant or nightlife recommendations, enjoying a glass of wine and good conversation, or simply providing a map and a friendly smile are each available.

Capitol Hill is one of the fastest growing, eclectic , and accessible Seattle neighborhoods. Whether haute cuisine or happy hour, exciting night spots or specialty shopping, 1629th is a great jumping off point with Pike's Place Market and Pacific Place Shopping Center just down the Hill.

Located just blocks from Pike, Pine, and Broadway, with a walkscore of 98, this unit is perfectly situated for easily accessing all of Downtown Seattle's major attractions, while still offering you a sense of privacy inside the bustling city.

Public transportation is easily accessed, with major bus lines just blocks away on Pine and Pike Streets that can take you straight down to the lightrail; the fastest and easiest way to get to and from Seatac airport.

About Owner/Manager

As a Seattle native, I've spent my life exploring diverse passions: music, architecture, travel, fitness, delicious meals, and a love of world cultures. They have each influenced the creation of an oasis in Seattle's Capitol Hill urban neighborhood. Transformed with the help of a friend in 2003, a thoughful redesign and 1200 sf addition transformed this 1901 structure into a creative project that kick started my Seattle based design-build business. Travels in South Asia, Mexico, and northern Europe have afforded me many opportunities to explore the world and build lifetime relationships and a positive perspective that guides my current vocation as a Pilates Instructor and health enthusiast. From good eats to performance venues, you can always find me enjoying the company of others and partaking of the amazing offering Seattle provides it guests.

Cool bohemian vibe in Capitol Hill

  • 5 of 5

I'll start off with the bad: the neighborhood is in some transition, with some very nice, well-kept older homes and newer apartments/condos, and some older, more dilapidated properties. The property across the street is being renovated and the front entrance was covered in plywood. Not a great look, but temporary.

The place itself, however, was a lot of fun. A lot of renovations, spacious kitchen and dining area, excellent rooftop deck, and two comfortable bedrooms. Cork floors, comfortable beds, new appliances, good breeze through the windows and patio door....just a very nice place for my family to hang after a long day of trekking around Seattle. A coop grocery and Trader Joe's are just a few blocks away along with several good restaurants, coffee shops, etc. Multiple bus stops within three blocks easily get you downtown (I recommend the Transit app to track schedules).

If you are familiar with Seattle, or if you have already stayed downtown and want to see a different neighborhood with its own feel, Capitol Hill is a fun place to stay, and this unit is a neat place. The initial impressions of the neighborhood may raise an eyebrow, but you'll be happy once you settle in, to both the unit and the neighborhood.

Spacious unit in a great spot on Capitol Hill

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for 5 days with 3 young children and 2 adults on the property. This unit is quite spacious. When you enter, you go up a flight of stairs. On the first living level, there is the main living area, kitchen, dining room, bathroom with a clawfoot tub with a shower in the middle of the tub, and a bedroom with a kind bed. Up another flight of stairs is a bedroom with a queen bed, a half bath, and a loft area with a couch and a nice inflatable queen bed. This upper level seems to be a converted attic.

The positives:

The appliances in the kitchen are very nice.

The deck is very large with soft fake grass.

The owner, Scott, is very nice and accomodated every request we had very quickly.

The unit is quite spacious.

The outdoor deck was nice for the kids to run around on, though I wouldn't let them eat out there as I wasn't sure how we could clean the astroturf.

The beds and couches are very comfortable.

My kids loved playing the piano (after we made sure to wash their hands of course).

The koi pond in front was also very fascinating for the kids.

The front is enclosed, so we were able to safely leave the stroller outside every night.

The unit is very close to the lightrail and many buslines, so we were able to do without a car for our trip.

The negatives:

The house is old and creaks and these and other sounds carry, especially to the upstairs area.

There is no way to block out the light from the window in the attic bedroom, so if you wake up to light, you'll be up before 6AM in the summer.

There are no screens on a couple of the windows so there were many flies in the house at one point, though we were able to position the numerous fans provided to blow them out.

Many of the windows are low, so if you have young kids, you need to keep them closed if they are nearby.

When you take a shower in the tub, the curtain sticks to you.

Scott was so nice and such a great host that I feel bad stating any of these negatives, but I wanted to give an honest review!

Bohemian pad in a quirky 'hood

  • 4 of 5

Well-appointed, clean, and bright. Fascinating décor. Within a block of public transport and easy walking distance to Trader Joe's and Seattle U. To note: the Swedish washer/dryer comes with a French operating manual; it takes two to open and close the ceiling window over the upstairs bed (and there is no screen); the front courtyard's uneven planking is tricky to navigate by night. Bring a shower cap: The overhead showerhead delivers a torrent!
