The upper unit is wonderful with open air kitchen & living area.

The bungalow and location were wonderful. Could have been cleaner, however.

Good value

  • 4 of 5

If you want a view or a really fancy place. Pay 2-3 times more and stay somewhere else. If you want good value with lots of space and a friendly mexican neighbourhood...Casa Roja is a good choice. Hard to beat the value. The new owner is doing improvements and a few things were done during our week. We rented the upper and lower part together for 4 couples and had lots of room. I think the upper part is a little nicer with the views and open living space. Sayulita is a generally very nice town but I really am not a big fan of the gross sewage river which ends up in the ocean right out front of town...really kinda ruins this beautiful place. Lots of potential for Sayulita if they manage the garbage and sewage better.

Perfect Location and Great Amenities!

  • 4 of 5

We had such a wonderful stay at Casa Roja Upper. It was the low season, so there wasn't anyone in the lower unit, so we had the place to ourselves. The AC was very welcome in the heat and humidity of September, and the palapa-style kitchen/common area was perfect. My only complaint is that there was no broom, no extra garbage bags, or some other basic cleaning items. We didn't have it cleaned until we had been there 7 of our 10 days, so the floors were covered in sand and the garbage was smelly and overflowing. It would have been nice to be able to take care of some of those things on our own. Otherwise, it was absolutely wonderful! Thank you so much for a great visit. We will be back!

Absent management

  • 3 of 5

THE GOOD:

The place was beautiful. The kitchen had everything we needed in it, and there was a little store next door to get eggs and veggies to make our breakfast. It was far enough away from town to not hear the party, but close enough to walk to. The pool was lovely to jump in to in the evenings.

THE NOT-SO-GOOD:

The new owner almost never came by. One night 4 nights in to our 10 night stay it rained really hard, and the drain pipe for the back balcony must have gotten plugged because the balcony ended up having 4 inches of standing water in it. When we finally saw the owner a couple days later she simply gave us a broom and told us to try to unplug it ourselves. So for the rest of the trip we had a mosquito breeding ground on the back patio.

Also, the ad stated that the suite gets cleaned once per week, which it did not. when we ran out of toilet paper we had to email the owner and she just told us to get our own from the storage shed downstairs.

We liked this place, but hopefully the new management gets a little bit more involved to make guests feel welcome.

We loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent experience at Casa Roja. Traci was super helpful and responsive when we ran into some logistical issues (not related to the house). Great space. Great location. I loved the outdoor kitchen!

Real Sayulita Life!

  • 5 of 5

David and Traci are such gracious hosts. The house is 5 minutes to the beaches and attractions of Sayulita. Try the freshly ground and baked tortillas every morning at the first street corner ... 90 cents for a warm kg! This home is great value; the feeling is being right among the locals including the ubiquitous pet dogs and chickens. Though the kitchen and common area are covered outdoor spaces, there were virtually no mosquitos or other biting bugs and the temperatures were fine even though it was a much cooler week than normal. Enjoy!
