Beautiful house and view

  • 5 of 5

This house is beautiful, spacious and very well equipped. The view is also really nice when it's not too cloudy. The road to Arenal volcano is about an hour and it's 2 h to Monteverde.

Very nice house and superb location overlooking Lake Arenal

  • 4 of 5

Meeting our hostess was smooth and the drive to the house easy and fairly quick. The setting of the house / the view/ was excellent. Probably one of the finest in the area. The house was spacious and comfortable. Sitting by the pool and looking out to the lake was was like we were riding the clouds looking out at the lake. So nice.

Some things needed attention....screens on windows have holes or gaps so it is easy for bugs to come inside once the lights were on in the evening. The owner really needs to have screens that actually fit windows...Our first night, hundreds of small, flying bugs came in through these gaps/holes in screens and we basically had to turn the lights off inside and turn them on outside to draw them out. Our caretaker gave us tape to cover up these breeches and after that, this situation was much better. However, I wasn't happy about having to play exterminator on our first evening there. My other suggestion would be to have queen size beds...not doubles....It's a little tight. The mattresses could have been more comfortable and it would be nice to be able to have an extra blanket for the chilly night but alas, there were none.

Lastly, Nicaragua makes very comfortable hammocks....large enough for 2 people and large enough so that you won't fall out....Make a run up there and get a would really add to the overall "chill factor." And one more thing....we always get a good book to go on vacation with....The lighting in the Living room was not bright enough for my older eyes nor my 21 year old we moved lamps to help us see and read....We surely can't be the only folks that read at night and need good light?

I would recommend this rental with a more enthusiastic heart if these little details were addressed. Lake Arenal is spectacular.

Peaceful hilltop retreat and perfect location for Arenal and Monteverde

  • 4 of 5

My family spent four nights at the tail end of our Costa Rican adventure at this lovely, well-appointed home. Coryn met us in Tilaran to show us the way and we were glad for our four-wheel drive to get up the steep dirt road (although didn't have to engage it as much as at other times during the trip!). Coryn was efficient and helpful on-site, ensuring we had proper supplies for our stay and answering my questions.

The house itself is very comfortable and has a terrific view. Like other reviewers, it was largely too windy and rainy for us to make use of the pool (and the flagstones around it get VERY slippery when wet). Our four-year-old enjoyed a brief splash in it and he and my husband took a quick dip after hiking up the hill one evening. We loved feeding grass and bananas to the horse next door and making friends with local pups that would wander over to visit.

We enjoyed Café & Macademia for dinner, pastries and to-go sandwiches, and had a really nice drink and meal at the Arenal microbrewery just up the way. They'll happily give you a taster selection of their on-tap brews but you can't buy offsales unless you bring your own bottle/growler. We wanted to try the River Rocks resto and bookstore, but they were only open 8am to 4pm.

The location midway between Tilaran and Nuevo Arenal was handy for groceries and errands, and we were able to make day trips to Arenal Volcano and Monteverde quite easily even with a sometimes whiny kid in the back seat :-)

There was one double-edged sword: the owners are currently having a casita built right behind the property which meant construction noise during the day and less privacy. The workers were very respectful and helpful, though, even trying to boost our SUV when it died during our stay. There is a new house going in adjacent to the lot as well. But when you're staring out the back onto the green rolling hills and Lake Arenal, it's easy enough to feel like the only people on the planet.

Owner's Response: Thank you and very happy you took advantage of the local attractions near us. Hopefully some of that made up for the construction going on in the casita. I was unaware that is was creating a lot of noise and and apology is in order that this was happening during your stay.

overall, very nice

  • 4 of 5

The view from the house was beautiful. You couldn’t ask for a lovelier view of the lake. Also, the house itself is very well-appointed with beautiful architecture and top notch appliances. We did have a small issue because there was no propane. We texted the first day, but the text wasn’t received. When we called a couple of days later, the propane was delivered immediately. The only other issue was that the pool wasn’t hooked up to the solar paneling, so it was really too cold to swim. However, it was, all-in-all, an excellent retreat and a central location. We enjoyed going to Nuevo Arenal and La Fortuna. I would recommend it.

Owner's Response: I am sorry that somehow a message did not get through the first day about the propane...I did not realize this till now. We don't have a landline at the house so all correspondence is via cell phone or email. We aim to be prompt and available for each and every apologies for the delay.

Spectacural View! Fabulouse house!

Gorgeous House, Breathtaking View!

We just spent one week at Casa West. Great big house with stunning panoramic view of the lake and volcano. Absolutely the best feature of the house. Nice open concept kitchen, dinning and living room aria! Very tastefully done interior and exterior. Swimming pool isn't very big but it is more then enough to get refreshing swim in hot days. It was also a really good location for home base for day trips to destinations around the lake. Definitely recommend this home for anyone looking to relax and get away from it all.

Rio Piedras is a small pueblo of lake arenal where daily life surrounds farming and community. There are a few local eateries and corner grocer situated alongside the rocky river that this town takes it's name from. Favorites are La Macha(best tipical food), Equus BBQ(best barbeque), and Cafe & Macadamia that is a short hike from the house and has excellent homemade bakery goods and lunch specials.

Nearby you'll enjoy the lake via wind or kite surfing, fishing, swimming, and kayaking with local guides. Horseback rides through the lush terrain with beautiful vistas can also be arranged. One of the benefits of Rio Piedras is location..about equidistant from the cloud forests of Monteverde, the sandy beaches of Guanacaste, and Volcan Arenal with it's hot springs and waterfalls nearby. It's a perfect out of the way location to enjoy the quiet meditative lake scenery, but easy to reach any of the tourist destinations that suit your fancy.
