About the property

Clean, Vintage, Cozy, Unique, Custom, Miner's House in Heart of Old Town

In the heart of old town Crested Butte, the historic core of town. You can't beat the location. The free shuttle stops practically at your front door!

Wood floors, no carpeting! Bright and airy.

Restaurants, shops, stores, parks, trails, bus stop, The Center for The Arts, skate-park, cinema; all within walking distance.

A cozy, fresh, 'feels good', charmer; this residence has been completely custom renovated, with an artistic touch.

Three bedrooms, one and a half bath, with an over-size tub for soaking apres-ski! Wonderful home with fully equipped kitchen, (all new appliances).

Living room has a bay window with a comfy L-shaped couch, flat-screen TV, cable, and hi-speed internet.

Vaulted ceilings, custom aspen and pine wood trim, and custom tile throughout. All south facing, open, sunny and warm, with mountain views from every room.

Located just two blocks from Crested Butte's historic downtown Elk Avenue with many first class restaurants and shops. A Free bus shuttle runs every 15 minutes to Mt. Crested Butte Village; at the base area of the best extreme ski mountain in Colorado.

In summer ride the lift and hike the peak or mountain bike the trails.

In the summer and fall and winter, enjoy the oversize yard.

Surrounded by berms with aspen & pine trees, wildflowers and perennials. Fenced in to the street, with a shed and alley on the south side. It is quiet and private. Table, chairs, sun umbrella and bar-b-que supplied.

This house, though altered, is representative of the dwellings erected in Crested Butte during the coal mining era, as reflected in the gable roof, double hung-sash and multi-light windows and unadorned exterior. (According to the Town of Crested Butte)

This unique home is only one block from the grocery store, liquor store, video box, fine dining establishments, and a movie theater, Two blocks from Elk Ave with more wonderful restaurants cafes, and shops: which are also on the free shuttle route.

The Nordic Center is also only two short town blocks and is known for their world class Nordic trails. They rent all necessary equipment . They also have a covered ice skating rink, sledding hill, in winter, and a skateboard park -- open in the summer and fall.

Kid's parks, dog parks, museums, theater, live music, galleries, spas,, yoga, fitness club w pool/sauna and more are all within walking distance.

All green amenities offered on the block.

It gets cool here at night year round, I recommend bringing warm clothes. Slippers are a good call for the cool tile and wood floors.

About Colleen Rafferty

Lucky to have called Crested Butte home for many years!

The streets weren't paved when I got here....it was dusty... and a little wilder..

Still stoked to explore the Gunnison Valley & the surrounding wilderness. The sheer amount of terrain around here means you could never hike/ bike/paddle, ski or ever explore it all.

Living a healthy lifestyle of skiing, and biking, and riding a townie cruiser bike around town is a joy..

Being a part of a small mountain community. Going to Paonia in the summer and pick fruit to preserve for winter. Mmmmmm

Best peaches, cherries, apricots, pears and apples, ever!!!

Raised my sons here, in a small town environment, where they knew everybody, and could ride their bikes around town safely. Snowboarding on the mountain, fishing in summer

The local arts community is wonderful.

It's a great place for kids. Good townspeople....

Colleen Rafferty purchased this house in 1991

Why Colleen Rafferty chose Crested Butte Area

I bought this property after renting it for years. It had been in a local family.

Lots of history. Every beam is hand hewn, from Irwin, Lily Lake area, every nail hand-poured--- buried deep under the drywall now...

Crested Butte is a magical, beautiful place. I wanted to put down roots.

Even back then there weren't many places to rent....

It was serendipity.

My sons grew up here. All the kids would gather at our house because it was centrally located.

Also, I want SUN in winter and this house has lots of it.

What makes this house unique

Joe Sedmak recalled that this home was moved to this site from the bench, where the CF&I big mine was located. It was an office for the mine... and one part of it was once a beauty parlor down the street, I've heard.

It's in the core of Historic Crested Butte. The location can't be beat. You can catch the free bus the the ski resort right on the corner--steps from the door!

This house has great views, is close to the grocery store, and gets a lot of sun and light in the winter.

I love the kitschy fruit tiles in the kitchen, (with pink bull-nose trim), and old fruit prints and plates on the walls. Grandma!

The dining nook in the kitchen; high ceilings. Original hardwood floors.

Big yard with trees and flowers I planted on berms that I had Al Maunz put there.

The bay window in the living room by the stove, great for curling up with a good book.

Great views of Mount Crested Butte, Gibson's ridge, and the Red Lady, (Mt. Emmons).

Huge yard.

Everything that was custom done to remodel the interior of the house makes it unique. Original artwork throughout.

It has interesting angles and custom wood trim everywhere and a catwalk, (with railings), between the two upstairs bedrooms.

Big tub.

Cute, adorable, one of a kind, bright and airy.

Unique. Historic, central.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We loved out stay in Crested Butte! The house was so cozy and inviting, clean and stocked with all we needed. The beds were warm and comfortable and we could gather on the couches to chat. When we walked in there were white lights adding a festive feel. We were close to all the shops and eateries. This place is a gem.

Nice, comfy digs in CB

  • 5 of 5

I've stayed here twice now. Colleen is a great host, very reachable as needed. This house is right in town and perfect for our needs. Nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. It's right on the bus stop which is great if you're headed up to the mountain. I'll continue to book here.

Property owner lacking

  • 1 of 5

While the home was cute and clean, we arrived late at night to a dark porch with no key in the lockbox! Screaming baby, out in the cold, calling the owner not my idea of fun. I will say she responded right away but told us to climb in a window to get in! The rest of the weekend was spent trying to stay warm as the radiant gas stove heater (the primary heat source) was broken and the owner couldn't get anybody in to fix it while we were staying there. She seemed to think the one working baseboard heater in a bedroom would keep the house cozy- NOT. I will say she did bring in a space heater- at my insistence. She offered no money off our stay. I have stayed in CB many times and have never had such lax care by a homeowner.

Owner's Response: I am very attentive and accommodating as a host.I would have been GLAD to have issued a refund to Rebecca for their “trouble”, as she put it, if she had not booked and stayed at my home under fraudulent circumstances. Yes, unfortunately I did forget to leave the key in the lock box. I’m sure this was upsetting. When Rebecca called and angrily demanded that I get there immediately, I apologized profusely and pointed out that it would take longer for me to drive there than to go through the unlocked window. They called and said the red stove was not working. I went and checked it and it needed a repair. I DO have back up baseboard heat throughout the entire house, which is perfectly adequate, I know, since I have lived there for years! I brought a space heater by for extra heat, since they had a newborn. When I went by to check on the stove I noticed they had 6 people staying there! (And a dog!) When they had only booked two guests. These guests got my rock-bottom off-season pricing and then demanded a refund! There is nowhere else in Crested Butte that they could have stayed for as cheaply as they stayed at my house and then they demanded their money back! When I pointed out they had 6 guests instead of the two booked, I got no response. I am sorry that this was a negative experience for both the guests, and me; the host. I felt like this guest was really trying to “work” me. Having undeclared extra guests, and then demanding a refund for "their trouble"!

Sunny, Happy house

  • 5 of 5

The house was light and bright and sunny, the beds were super comfortable, and the bathtub was huge. The kitchen had all of the pots and pans I needed to cook all of our meals, and what a beautiful view of the mountain from the kitchen sink. It is such a short walk to the grocery store or parks or the main street. What a nice place to stay to be close to amazing hiking.

Ideal location

Living in this beautiful old home with my wife and golden retriever in historic Crested Butte this winter really made our time there so much fun. It is in a quiet neighborhood but very close walking distance to all that CB has to offer.
