The house is situated between the small village of Meco and the Atlantic, about 500 m from the beach. The village lives mostly from the local tourists, there are no hotels and when the season is over, people like to visit Meco because of the good restaurants and to have a walk on the beach. The beach of Meco got famous in the 70es as one of the first nudist beaches, today everybody does as he likes and Meco was “discovered” by the Lisbon high-society and artists. During the summer-season there is a quite busy night life in the village but as the house is not in the center of the village you want notice much. Fresh vegetables you can buy from our farmer next to the house and some local women make fresh bread over the open fire. In the village you have everything you need, pharmacy, bank, little shops as well as fresh fish 6 days a week. If you do not feel like cooking, order some fine dishes from the next restaurant and enjoy it on our terrace..

One amazing week in a lovely village just a short walk to the beach.
I must start by saying that both Artur and his wife Cristina (sp?) are lovely people who took the time to show us the village, especially the restaurants that they suggested we try. We stayed here 6 nights, and it was a nice accommodation for the 7 folks in our group. We spent a majority of our time at the house sitting on the back patio with the pool just meters away.
If you are looking for a place to rest and relax that is not a tourist destination then this should be on your list. Our first evening we had dinner at Restaurante O Carlos; if you are looking for a proper meal of wonderful fish take our advice to ignore the menu and have the proprietor suggest a fish to split for everyone. Fabulous! There were also 2 very nice places for breakfast in the village as we can attest to.
As we were here for an event on the beach we did not have a car. We did manage to get by with walking to the village and the beach every day, but I do want to insist that this was not the best idea. Artur did try to convince us to have a car. The distance to our destinations was not very large, but these roads truly are not made for pedestrians. Be careful walking from the beach back to the house in the evening as all of the folks - probably after a few drinks at Bar do Peixe - drive as if they are in a race.
Thanks for the wonderful stay.
Delightful house overlooking lovely countryside
|Our family of Granny, Grandpa, Mum, Dad and two daughters aged 4 and 1 had a very enjoyable week at this house. It was very clean, well maintained and excellently equipped, particularly with lovely young children's toys. The decor made it a very interesting property. The gated garden was ideal for the girls playing. Granny and Grandpa found the pool great for an afternoon swim. Although Granny and Grandpa knew the area the owner was very helpful with information about how things worked in the house and gave a tour of Aldeia de Meco pointing out the various local facilities. The beach at Praia de Meco is wild and magnificent but for children swimming in the sea and building sandcastles our granddaughters found the beach at Sesimbra more suitable. The castle above Sesimbra was also most interesting and the views from its walls over Sesimbra, the sea and the surrounding countryside up to Lisbon were fantastic.
Charming family house with pool, close to beach
We stayed here for 9 nights with our family (2 adults, 3 young kids) and had a great time. The house is lovely, more tastefully furnished than it shows on the pictures and also the view was above expectation. The pool is great for when you don't feel like going to the beach, when the waves might be too wild or the wind too strong. The house is efficiently laid out and ideal for a family with 3 or 4 kids. The house, swimming pool and garden are clean and well maintained. We used the outdoor BBQ almost every day.
The owner was extremely friendly and helpful. He showed us around in the area, to see his favourite restaurants and local shops.
The area is not very touristic at all, plenty of locals and people from Lisbon, so do bring your "What and How in Portuguese" because English will not get you too far.
We loved the beach restaurant Bar do Peixo, great for white wine (local) and fresh fish after a day at the beach (Praia do Moinho de Baixo) at only about 800 m from the house. The local bakery and shops are lovely and serve good coffee.
We also liked going to Cape Espichel, impressively built on a high cliff, great to visit for a few hours (don't miss the dinosaur trail).
I would recommend this house to a friend.
Perfect holiday home
We had a perfect stay in this holiday home in September 2010.
The assistant of the owner even waited for our arrival at 1 o'clock at night as we had a flight delay.
Very nice property! Pool is nice, but the beach is even nicer. Approx. 800m to the beach. The surf there is not so good. It is better a little further north at Costa de Caparica (approx. 25km). Car is absolutely necessary!
I can recommend the fish shop in town and a BBQ at night on the terrace. All facilities are available at the house. Everything was fine even though we have been kicked out by the cleaning ladies on the day of our departure.
I can absolutely recommend this holiday home!!!
We (4 women) had a great week staying in this place - very tranquil with 900m to a great beach, good restaurant options in walking distance, lovely pool and easy to reach from airport (with private car; public transport is also available).
House is clean and excellently equipped, you can tell that it's a real home and not bought-to-rent. The owner was very helpful and flexible in accomodating our wishes.
Cosy 3 bedroom house with pool in a charming area
We were very pleased with our holiday in Meco. The area is pieceful and extremely beautiful. There is a short distance to cities such as Sesimbra and Lisbon making it possible to do day trips to these destinations. During our holiday (in the end on June) there was nice cool wind blowing from the Atlantic even though the days were very hot.
The house was very good quality for the price we paid. From the backyard there is a beautiful view to fields and valleys. The pool area was a very nice add-on to the cosy house. The fence made it suitable also for kids. Inside the house it was cosy, comfortable and cool enough to sleep during nights.
The landlord was very helpful. The not functioning microwave was replaced within 24 hours. We were also given a GPS for navigating in the area.
Please note: A car is recommended. Even though the beach and the closest shops are within a walking distance, the roads are not planned for walking.
Meco is located in the middle of a natural park called “Serra da Arrabida”. The coast is often wild and difficult to explore, but the next sand-beach to our house (500 m) is about 5 km long. Lisbon is a very busy city with a lot of bars and restaurants and only 30 km away from our house. Once you put down your luggage you feel miles away from any civilization. Our place is ideal to combine relaxing holidays with a lot of trips to the most important places around Lisbon, like Sintra (summer residence of the former Kings of Portugal), Estoril and Cascais with the Casino. Sesimbra is around the corner and you can enjoy a nice ride through the natural park of the Serra da Arrabida. From Setubal you can use a car-ferry to the peninsula of Troia where you can play a round of golf, go swimming or go on for a trip to the deserted area of the Alentejo with the many beaches in between. You can play golf at about 10 different courses all around 15 to 50 km from our place.
