About Jayne Ginn

I was born and raised in Gloucester. We lived in a relatively poor neighborhood one of two daughters in a single parent household. I learned to be incredibly driven, determined, liberally minded with high expectations for myself and others. I feel that honesty, integrity and fairness are the most important qualities in life and I live by these beliefs. As a child, I had a intense love and compassion for all animals, horses in particular, but pets were not allowed in our rented apartment and definitely owning a horse was out of the question. I spent several years in South Florida where I put myself through nursing school. My husband grew up on the farm, that we now call Cedar Hill, here in Essex. My husband, a graduate of the University of Miami, also had a familiarity with So. Florida. So, 25 years ago we moved our young family to Jupiter Farms, Florida where I worked as a nurse and my husband worked in the boating industry. Our family thrived in Jupiter, Fl. and considered it home. I got my first horse at age 39 and felt like a kid again. With retirement age nearing and the economy just starting to recover from the financial decline and the kids grown, My husband and I decided to move back to New England and took over the family farm. It was a huge financial and emotional decision at what should be a winding down of our lives, in preparation for retirement. But we always enjoy a challenge. We have been working tirelessly to update and renew the place. We have finally opened a warm and welcoming Bed & Breakfast in the main farmhouse. We have kept everything natural and encourage guest to embrace the open space and enjoy the wildlife. Currently we have my two Arabian horses and hope to add a few more animals. The place will be run with integrity, warmth with a feeling of family. Please go to our website: to book a room or the apartment.

Why Jayne Ginn chose Essex

The farm was left to my husband and siblings when his parents passed. It sat for many years without family involvement. We always hoped to live at the farm some day but with multiple owners, it was just not an option. We came to Ma. from Fl. two years ago to sell the property to an established buyer. We would have been financially set for retirement... However, we just couldn't do it. It was so beautiful, untouched and historic. So, instead of selling it, we bought out the one remaining brother and are working hard to make a go of it and preserve this open space

What makes this apartment unique

Beautiful forest lands, open space, maple trees, Oak trees, hiking trails

324 yr. old colonial farm house, Old barns. Seafood, fishing, beaches, history, sailing, kayaking, Stand Up Paddle boarding, Close to Salem the city of witches and Boston.

Idyllic life on the farm

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Cedar Hill Farm. Our two children instantly fell in love with the tree swing and the two beautiful horses. Jayne and Michael could not have been more accommodating (providing extra blankets, pass to Crane's beach, and ample access to horses). The apartment was clean, tidy, and easily fit four--even a kitchen for home cooked meals! Would love to return some day.

Just as comfortable and peaceful as it looks on-line! Essex is a cute little town with good food and quaint views. Busy Rockport a quick trip! Mike and Jayne sweet and laid back but spot on with keeping the necessities at hand!

Would recommend for two!

All country comforts!

  • 5 of 5

Arrived on Friday to a quaint country cottage. Immaculate and decorated so sweetly! The owners are attentive and really make you feel welcome. Grabbed the beach pass and enjoyed glorious Crane's beach for three days. Slept like babes in the comfortable ac with the stars shining in the sky lights. Nice continental breakfast and a beautiful farm to hike and enjoy. Lots of places to eat close by and tons of antique stores. Would highly recommend this gem of a get away.

Like nearby Crane Beach, Cedar Hill Farm is unique in its natural simplicity and charm

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I lived in Boston area for many years and during that time discovered Crane Beach which is an absolute jewel. After moving to North Carolina (whose more famous beaches are 3rd rate by comparison), we decided to spend 1 week of every summer vacationing near Crane Beach. Our online search turned up Cedar Hill Farm - the description and location seemed too good to be true. Nonetheless, we rented the little loft apartment for just short of a week (that’s all it was available for) and one of the B&B rooms for the balance of our stay. When we arrived, we were greeted by one of the cutest little apartments either of us had ever seen. Though small, it had everything we needed and it was all so nicely arranged - Jayne and Mike have excellent taste The farm itself is gorgeous and even more charming than the little apartment. The bedroom we stayed in in the B&B was quite large with a very spacious bathroom to match. The beds were firm yet very comfortable - we slept like babies every night. Jane and Mike are genuine, friendly, down to earth people. If we lived nearby, we would want them to be our friends. :). We plan to return to Cedar Hills every summer to repeat our lovely vacation.

Fantastic place for kids and Crane beach

  • 5 of 5

We've had a fantastic week at this place in July. The 2-level apartment is clean and picturesque, with lots of light and a window to the stars at night (and it is air-conditioned). The owner lives just 2 houses away. The best part of this place is a big fenced backyard right out of the back sliding door, with 100-year old shady trees and a swing -- when we were not out at the beach, the kids roamed there and weren't bored at all. The owner's two white horses sometimes wander to the adjacent (fenced) area to graze and accept attention from the kids. Crane Beach (which was the main purpose of our trip, driving from MD) is a 10-min drive, as is a number of seafood restaurants. Essex is not as touristic (yet) as some of the neighboring towns, so parking isn't a problem. An ice cream shack halfway to Crane beach is excellent (forgot the name -- easy to see from the road). We'll return.
