About the property

4 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 7

Charming turn of the century Victorian house located within walking distance of historic downtown Elkin and minutes from the center of the Yadkin Valley wine country.

Enjoy the charm of a classically constructed original home built for Elkin's first doctor. Relax on the large, inviting wraparound porch and imagine yourself transported back to the early 1900's.

Enter the house to a lovely mix of antiques and modern conveniences. On the main floor is a parlor, formal living and dining rooms, kitchen and family room. The bedroom and bathroom (en suite) on main floor has a large walk-in shower, styled with subway tile. The second floor landing leads to two bedrooms with queen beds, a sitting room with twin bed, and a large full bathroom (complete with towel warmer.)

The porch is a perfect setting to relax after a day of exploring nearby Stone Mountain, Civil War trails, vineyards and antique stores. Visitors seeking more active adventures can raft the Yadkin River or zipline across a local winery.

About Dan O'Connell

Dan and Jackie purchased the Royall Homeplace in July 2007 with the hopes of someday possibly retiring in Elkin. They both enjoy old houses and like to take on challenging projects.

Dan O'Connell purchased this house in 2007

Why Dan O'Connell chose Stone Mtn State Park

The Royall Homeplace immediately captured their imagination and offered lots of potential. After closing on the purchase they immediately set about to restore and maintain the character of this historic house. After years of hard work and lots of TLC they opened the house to the public in late summer 2014. Furnished with an eclectic mix of furnishings and accessories they want guests to relax and feel welcome during their stay. The large wraparound porch is a particular favorite place to relax.

Beautiful, and very functional home for a getaway. Close to numerous vineyards and other activities. I will not hesitate to book here again for our next Yadkin Valley escape!

Elkin was a very pleasant surprise and this house was so convenient!

  • 4 of 5

The four of us could not have had a more pleasant stay. The house was lovely and comfortable. We enjoyed seeing how it was decorated and having the radio and perfect lightning allowed us to relax and set the scene for a great weekend. I was a little surprised that the seat at the bottom of the stairs was in the house. With the ribbon to prevent sitting, it must have value so I think I would take it out. The house is very much like a home in every other way and we felt welcomed and comfortable. Walking to the downtown was a breeze, literally, and worth every little step. Unique and charming, Elkin was just what we needed to begin and end our day in the wine country of Yadkin Valley.

Beautiful Home

  • 3 of 5

My cousin rented this beautiful home for 6 of us to stay in. We were there for a wedding. The house was gorgeous and perfect with the 4 bedrooms. Very clean! It was 2 couples & 2 singles staying for the weekend. We had lots of space, with a GREAT kitchen. Although, we ate out most of the time, it was still nice to have a great kitchen. Good location. We walked the neighborhood every night for exercise. Safe place. My only complaint and it is a big complaint. We had water issues. My mom was taking a shower in the upstairs bathroom and the water just stopped. She had to rinse off in the sink. I ended up taking a shower downstairs. The water pressure there was really bad also. I did not wash my hair, due to the fact I was scared I would not be able to get the shampoo out of my hair. The next day my sister and her husband were in the upstairs shower and the water just stopped again! My brother-in-law called the owner to let him know about the issue, but he never responded. So, none us took showers again until we got home. It was that bad. Did I mention we were there for a wedding!!! So, it was bad news! Anyway, we loved the place other than that. I would stay there again, ONLY, if the owner assured me the water issue was corrected. My cousin emailed the owner after we departed to make him aware of the water issue, but he never responded. So....my advice to you, is, if you are going to rent this home, be sure and ask about the water. I think you will LOVE the home if it is fixed. We loved it!, Just water issues. I would have given a 5 star rating, but I only gave a 3 star rating because of the water issue.

Owner's Response: The water issued has been addressed by a professional plumber who installed new bath facet and checked water pressure and supply lines. We did respond by email to our guest thanking them for reporting the issue and apologizing for the inconvenience. We are unsure why the email was not received.
