Vintage Cottage on a Historic Walk-up Street in the Hills of Silver lake. Very close to all the neighborhood has to offer, as well a seemingly above it all nestled in a pretty canyon. The place has a lot of vintage charm, built in 1914 the cottage is peaceful and private. All the systems have been updated and the interior carefully planned. The views through out the property are lovely and the garden inviting. There is one main bedroom with a Queen size bed, and there is also a separate area with a 6Ft. long daybed that sleeps one quite comfortably. The galley kitchen has comfortable seating and is well equipped to whip up a scrumptious meal or relax and eat your takeout, a BBQ is available too. An Office off the Kitchen is very functional with ample natural light and plenty of workspace. Next to the Office is the Bathroom with a claw foot tub for long soaks and a shower with plenty of hot water. The living room is roomy and relaxed with a gas fireplace, wood floors, modern comfortable furniture, and views into the surrounding trees. It's a sweet welcoming little house, in a unique and private setting. The bungalow is located on a historic walk-up street, which requires you to bring your luggage and self up a steep set of stairs. If you may have any problem tackling stairs this might not be the property for you. :)
I'm a Designer/Decorator living in Los Angeles. I love to travel, meet new people and make new friends.
Leesa Martling purchased this bungalow in 1989
Its special, not an average home.
The private Stair Street vibe, and the feeling of being removed from the hustle bustle of city life.
We had a wonderful stay in Leesa's Hill Top Home. It was clean and had everything that we needed. The location was very convenient and it was great to have a grocery store so nearby. We really enjoyed having our morning coffee outside in the little garden sitting area. Leesa was great to work with and easy to contact.
We stayed in Leesa's cottage for 2 weeks - it was ideal for our needs with one bedroom and a daybed for a third guest. The cottage was comfortable, clean and tidy and we had full run of Leesa's store cupboard when preparing meals - a big bonus as it can be expensive buying all the herbs and spices you need when you only need a pinch of each!
The location is handy for all that Silver Lake has to offer but as many others have mentioned the access may be difficult for those with mobility issues - in our case we found the stairs a great way to workout and burn off some of the holiday calories :-)
I stayed at the house for three weeks and it was very comfortable. There is a lovely sitting room plus a reading nook, an office for working, and the bed is very comfortable. The kitchen is small but well appointed and I was able to cook meals daily very easily. Leesa is great hostess and was quickly available for anything I needed. The kitty is sweet yet very demanding when it's breakfast time :) While the house is next to a freeway I never felt like the sound was intrusive. The location gave me easy access to Silver Lake as well as the rest of LA. It was a great home base.
I was able to use windows, fans, and heaters located strategically throughout the house to keep the temperature at just the right place for me during the day and at night. One thing to note is there are 77 steps between the street parking and the front door. It made for a great workout but is a consideration if you have any mobility impairment or are otherwise physically limited.
We had a great stay at this charming hillside bungalow in Silverlake. The garden was a lovely place to hang out and the host was very friendly and helped us out with any questions right away.
The area is great and we walked the staircases in the hills. The reservoir, parks, cafés and the playground in Silverlake is within walking distance which is great for Europeans like us. The freeway is close by and you definitely can hear it, but it wasn't too disturbing in this great setting.
We would love to come back.
This comfortable house with it's clean design is light and airy. We enjoyed the beautiful see through fireplace flanked by a sofa sized window seat and cozy living room. The landscaping surrounding the house is beautiful, with a lovely private garden in the back with an eating and lounging area.
Stair street location provides relief from LA traffic noise and affords a rural feel and views, yet it is a five minute drive to downtown. Parking is no problem.
Owner is a gracious host, easily contacted and responsive to questions and needs.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this Hill Top Home in the vibrant neighborhood of Silver Lake.

The Bungalow is located on a walk-up Street. The stairs are steep walking up to the place, so if you have any physical problems walking etc., this may not be the rental for you. I also have two semi-feral cats that need to be fed, if you are willing and able to split a can of food between them in the mornings it would be really appreciated.
