Lake Elmore is small town Vermont, a vanishing breed. It is home to the last one room school house in Vermont, which describes the sort of country experience you are in for. But it is close to Stowe. which has all the top end features you expect in a resort town if you wish to experience that too. We do, especially the restaurants. Lake Elmore is called the beauty spot of Vermont and you will find a visit well worth your time.

Comfortable, spacious, well supplied, great location on the water

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family greatly enjoyed our stay at Bywater in August 2017. With four bedrooms and three sitting areas, plus the deck and lawn, there was ample space for us all to spread out and enjoy the beautiful location right on Lake Elmore. We swam off the dock, hiked Elmore Mountain, biked to the Elmore General Store daily, and rented paddleboards at the nearby Elmore State Park. The house is well supplied with everything from linens/towels and basic pantry items to water toys, family games, bikes and life jackets. Our family enjoyed some epic cornhole competitions on the lawn! The kitchen has modern appliances and everything you might need for cooking or grilling. There's a good selection of books on the staircase bookshelves, and even a comfy bed on the sleeping porch to read on before your afternoon nap! All you need bring is your food and clothing. The owners, Jack and Pat Kelly, were very welcoming and helpful. Cell service is sparse in Elmore but the house has wifi if you need it. We loved our stay here and would definitely rent it again.

Incredible Home on Beauiful Lake Elmore

  • 5 of 5

Jack and Pat Kelly were fantastic. Frankly just good people offering a little slice of heaven for families looking to enjoy Lake Elmore. Their home is appointed with EVERYTHING you could need...from steak knives for BBQ nights to floatation devices for everyone in the family. My husband and I took up our two young children (4 and 6) and had MORE than enough room for everyone to enjoy art projects, fish on the dock, cook huge meals in the kitchen and enjoy quiet time out on the front porch (all at the same time!). My husband and I could relax and just let our little ones enjoy the space knowing that the house was safe (nice wide staircase and quality furniture). Having little ones, we also enjoyed the grassy hill that sloped down to the water. There was ample room for tossing the football and games of cornhole (equipment provided) in the evening. We definitely could have invited our entire family up and would have had plenty of space for everyone, but our yearly trip to Elmore is "our time". The four of us unplug and just enjoy beautiful days on undivided attention. Our children are our whole world and giving them a week in a big beautiful home where they can just be kids and enjoy the magic of Elmore is truly a gift for us all.

Thank you Jack and Pat for an incredible week on the Lake!

A truly magical White Christmas

  • 5 of 5

Our stay on Lake Elmore was everything we expected for a family from Australia of 7 adults who wanted a White Christmas. We had plenty of room for all of us, the house was warm and cosy and had all the facilities that we needed.

Jack was extremely helpful and responded quickly to any queries, the neighbours were also very helpful, all making us feel very welcome. The Lake Elmore Store has a good stock of supplies, we purchased a great steak for one nights dinner and the Elmore bread is delicious.

The house was so cosy that we didn't want to venture out some days, and the views are fantastic. The Lake was frozen and changed is appearance everyday which made for some wonderful photos.

We highly recommend the house it will be one of our fondest memories of our holiday. There was only on problem, we had to leave.

Thanks again Jack and family for welcoming us into you holiday home.

Lovely home on the Lake!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I rented Bywater with another family. Between us there were four kids ages 5 and under and four adults. There was plenty of room in the house to accommodate all of us, and we had everything we needed in terms of linens, towels, cooking supplies and space. There was even a fire pit that we used to make S'mores! The kids especially enjoyed the lake and the small beach area was perfect for the little ones. However, it would also be a great house to rent with out children. We took advantage of having access to the canoe and spent time paddling around the lake. Jack and Patty were wonderful hosts, meeting us at the property and showing us around before they left. They left us a welcome basket with some VT maple syrup, a bottle of wine and some pasta that we immediately fed to the kids. We didn't speak to them while we were there, but felt we could reach out if any problem were to arise. The location is quite convenient and we were able to head to Stowe, Waterbury, Smugglers Notch, Cabot and other wonderful VT locations very easily. The WiFi was also very reliable. Above all, the lake is absolutely beautiful! If we head up for another VT action this will be where we stay!

A perfect Vermont getaway

  • 5 of 5

We found this to be a beautiful, welcoming, well-cared for home in a great location. Located right on Elmore, with gorgeous views across the lake to the mountain, there was something for everyone in our group. We swam, kayaked, and hiked right from the house. Groups of us would wander down the road to the country store and come back with local produce, fresh baked muffins, and amazing bread. The kitchen had everything we needed to make large meals, and the dining room table seated us all comfortably. The rooms are large and airy and offer lots of flexibility, so our mixed group of children, teenagers, and adults all found sleeping arrangements that worked, and enough privacy so that we didn’t drive each other crazy. We used the yard for corn hole, badminton, and campfires. Stowe and Montpelier are both easy drives away, with Burlington just a bit further, so there was always something to do, no matter the weather. We’ll be back!

Beautiful Home with Great Views

  • 5 of 5

This was a beautiful home that lived up to all expectations. My family and I had a lovely time and will look back on this as one of the best vacations we've had. The last few days were very hot so an air conditioner would have been nice, but it was still a great experience, I highly recommend renting this home!

Lake Elmore
Car: necessary

Lake Elmore is Vermont the way it used to be. In the summer you can hear the sound of a screen door closing. In foliage season the views are incredible. And we are close to Stowe, the Ski capital of the East, without Stowe prices or traffic. In the summer, swim, fish, boat, hike, have campfires all on a private wooded lot on the lake. In the fall, foliage and harvest suppers. In the spring it's maple syrup time. And in the winter, we have access to the VAST snowmobile trails on the lake, crosscountry skiing and snowshoeing on the lake and in the state park, plus all the Stowe resorts have to offer.

We are on the edge of the Northeast Kingdom, with it's rustic scenery. And we are located in North Central Vermont, 45 minutes from Burlington and 30 minutes from Montpelier.

We are 200 miles from Boston and 100 miles from Montreal.
