About Chris and Angie
Living in Canada’s northernmost big city we carry on busy fulfilling lives with “important” jobs and an active family of five. For sure minus 40 degree winters are an incredible motivation for settling on Buenavidaville in Tamarindo. But the whole story is more about realizing our dreams, finding a fun & safe nest for our family & friends and keeping our values intact.
Chris and Angie purchased this House in 2014
Why Chris and Angie chose Tamarindo
The origins go back many years when we fell in love with Costa Rica while travelling there on a project for business. The natural surroundings and kindness of the people were incredible and the values of a well educated, healthy and happy population make Costa Rica unlike any other place in Latin America. We used to come home from each trip vowing to go back one day to escape from the winter and have a home in Costa Rica”. This area and property met all our needs for fulfilling the dream.
What makes this House unique
We turned over stones in many places before we circled back to Tamarindo. It’s not perfect like Disney, but the experience of arriving one evening and then waking up in this beautiful place is the meaning of Pura Vida for us. La Buena Vida is our private oasis nuzzled near the beach. When the first morning comes we are in a completely different space and our worries melt away. We feel like kids again and we never get tired! Our teens have taken up surfing and love the vibe here. In the end, we even want to go back in summer…Beaching, outings and endless adventures…it’s just too hard to resist.

Very Nice Digs
The condo itself was very nice and clean. Well provided. Pool was nice and quiet area. Only concern was a alot of activity from kids in the common area at first though this improved. Convenient to the beach though much traffic and very dusty roads. This is more a reflection of the need for better infrastructure in the town itself. The condo owner, of course, has no control over such minor occurences.
Thank you for the stay and taking time to write a helpful review for future guests. La Buena Vida 4 is convenient to everything in Tamarindo being a 5 minute walk to shops and restaurants and less than 10 min. to the beach on foot.
Tamarindo continues to be more popular every year. So... It's helpful for guests visiting in High Season to know to expect a little traffic and congestion while infrastructure tries to catch up. During Peak Season - New Year, Spring Break, Easter the town can get very crowded! (By Easter the weather is also very dry & dusty after months without rain) Thank you for the guest insights on this Jim!
So its also helpful advice for those who are seeking solitude to know to avoid peak times. For some travelers "Green" and "Shoulder" "Seasons" are very much worth exploring ...if guest have these times available to them. These times are very special. The canopy in town and on the beach is particularly large, lush, green, and beautiful ...with very little dust or wind.
It's also nice for repeat and new guests to know that, after a long wait, our town is now in the midst of significant municipal investments. New curbs, paving, water mains, tree planting on boulevards, recycling and many major improvements are both planned and underway in various parts of the town. Some of the best new businesses, like the new Vindi grocery and a host of great restaurants have located around our street in anticipation of these investments.
As local taxpayers and donors we support municipal improvements and efforts of local non-profits. These groups have lobbied diligently and the work is really paying off. They are working hard to protect and renew our green space and beach canopy too - With regular tree planting and daily volunteer beach clean ups. Guests and residents are also helping by keeping the beach clean.
La Buena Vida is in the heart of this new investment. It's super exciting for owners and our guests to be part of it. Tamarindo's regular cohort of visitors are noting that "every time they return to town" they are surprised to see the pace of new improvements happening now.
We hope you will come back and see us again soon!

Excellent location and excellent, spacious, accommodation for our family of 4
Lovely little piece of paradise so close to all the action of Tamarindo! Very responsive hosts too. We enjoyed the ATV tour down the street, the Green Papaya restaurant, Reina’s chocolate workshop and the Black Stallion ranch for horseback riding and zip lining! The weather couldn’t have been better.
Thank you for staying at La Buena Vida 4. It is a pleasure to have nice families enjoying our home. With all the activities and beach so close on foot, it's easy to walk around town and live car free for your whole stay. We have a family and couples oriented home and really appreciate your visit. Kind Regards ...Angie & Chris
Excellent Place to Stay
We (2 adults, 2 kids ages 6 and 9) had a great experience at LaBuena Vida 4. Quiet, clean and fully furnished. Close to everything (5 min to beach) but a bit off the beaten path. Chris and Angela are very responsive and helpful. We had an excellent stay and experience. Thanks Chris and Angela.
Thanks for staying with us at La Buena Vida 4. We find our guests really like to be away from the noise at night and still be super walk-able to everything that matters. The brand new Vindi Grocery and French Bakery are fantastic additions to our area. Guests and neighbors really appreciate the convenience and wonderful fresh food being close by. Tamarindo beach is so wonderful in July because the greenery is richer and it's always easy to find shade or sun. We hope to see you again soon. Chris and Angie
Great vacation rental, short walk to beach and Downtown
We just returned from a very enjoyable 11 days in Costa Rica. We spent 9 nights at La Buena Vida 4 and highly recommend this condo. It is fully equipped with everything you need. The owners were great before, during and after the trip. As first time visitors they answered all of our questions and gave great recommendations. The atmosphere is relaxed and the other condo owners were very nice and friendly as well. The pool is small, but we rarely had any one else out there and it was a great spot to escape the midday heat. The walk to downtown and the beach was about 5 - 7 minutes. To the far end of the main street and to the end of the beach, by Witches Rock Surf Camp, was just about 1 km. We walked everywhere and only took a cab to go to the Auto Mercado (nice grocery store) which was about 2.5 km away. There are excellent places to eat within 100 - 200m meters from the condo and we highly recommend La Esquina (great pizza), La Bruja Ines (the best ceviche) and La Bodega (great breakfast). When we come back to Tamarindo, and we will, this will be our go to place to stay.
Travler tips: Bring lost of bug spray and sunblock, very expensve to buy in town and you will need it, especially if you go on any tours in the canopy or rain forest. Also one of the condo owners (Maria) owns a tour company (SiSiSi tours) and we made all our excursion plans through her as it was very convienent. She is very nice and helpful, and the cost was the same as other companies.
Glad you enjoyed our home and Tamarindo. We really appreciate you sharing advice & experiences! La Esquina is our go to spot as well…Pizza is great -We love the Kabobs and Shrimp Tacos, plus the price and quality is always very good. There are new places opening all the time in town and the selection can be a bit overwhelming sometimes. Our little street has some of the best and most established places in town and the dining is always warm & casual in the evening. We look forward to having you again at La Buena Vida . Thank you so much for being great guests. Chris and Angie
Amazing Family Vacation!
This was a family vacation that included two teenage children, and was thoroughly enjoyable to everyone. The relaxed atmosphere was perfect. You can customize your vacation to be as busy or as laid back as you choose. With everything from a sunset cruise to zip lining and white water rafting, or watching the sea turtles nest, it was truly a perfect mix for everyone.
The location is ideal, with the ability to walk a few minutes and be in the middle of town, or stay put, and have the quiet of the "off the beaten path"
People are very friendly, and despite the many vendors selling their wares on the beach, there was never anyone that was overly aggressive or pushy. There was never a time where I felt uncomfortable or unsafe.
The amenities in the condo are ideal. There was a feeling of home from the minute you walk through the door.
Will definitely be back, hopefully soon!
Thanks for taking time to share your experiences. So glad you had a great stay at La Buena Vida. We would love to have you back again in Tamarindo.
Chris and Angie.
Very Clean and Well provided Condo
Condo was super clean and had everything we needed, hair dryers, curling irons, paper towels and toilet paper. That I found very impressive. It was very convenient and close to everything, bank almost right next door and not to far from the beaches, bars, shops, restaurants and the Saturday Farmers Market. On Friday, there is a fellow that sells fruit, and if you get there early enough, you can get some Great Papayas. We found everything we needed in the kitchen, just a garlic press was the only think of that it was missing. If you go to the boats by the creek, one gets turtle tours etc at a much cheaper price, as they don't have to pay anyone commission. Pool was very handy, and there was lots of light due to the fact it was the end unit and right beside the pool. If you rent by the month there are some good deals to be had. Overall stay was very nice, just not long enough for me. Costa Rican people were very nice, and Costa Rica is much cleaner than Mexico. Would gladly stay there again. Restaurants upped there prices though when the high season started, was not happy with that, I actually thought it would be much cheaper than it was, but I did find Tamarindo a bit of a Tourist trap, price wise. Best to shop in the Big Stores out of town, if you want to save some money on groceries, beer etc. No problem staying at this condo again if I was to return to the area.
Thank you for a great review. Glad to hear you enjoyed La Buena Vida 4 and took the time to provide helpful advice for future guests. That is so kind! We use our place regularly and always want people to feel at home.
Tamarindo is renowned for some of Costa Rica's best dining - Many International residents have opened wonderful unique places in town. Prices often are comparable to Canada/USA and this can be a surprise. So, shopping and dining outside the core is a good idea for more economical choices. We will update our welcome letter to include more "local" spots...The Mega Super in nearby Villa Real is a large local grocery and great economical choice.
We hope you'll have opportunity to stay with us again. Its nice to have such caring guests.
Chris and Angie
PS. Picked up a Garlic press tonight-Great idea
