About the property

4 Bedrooms, 4 baths

Come and enjoy the peace and quiet of pristine Lake Nantahala in this beautiful lake front home. 2 Stand Up Paddleboards! 3 bedrooms with king beds and one bedroom with 2 full-sized bunks supply the accommodations for a terrific family vacation. There are also 2 kayaks, a pool table and many water toys. Rent a boat for the week (or the day) at the local marina (ask for details)- dock it at our large, private dock. Sit around the fire pit in the evenings with your family for a memory filled trip.

Plan your wedding at the beautiful wedding venue that is walkable from the house!

You can go to the Lake's End Grill (seasonal) which serves 3 meals a day and has a fire pit in the back overlooking the water or have a pizza delivered right to our dock!!

On the days you may prefer to be indoors, there is a theater room and a game room with a pool table and separate kitchen. 2 large covered porches and rocking chairs give you the peace and serenity that you are looking for in a lake vacation. There is also a large picnic table with an umbrella and a deck just steps from the water and the private dock.

This house is a home, not a sterile rental unit. We want you to feel comfortable in it, so it is furnished and appointed like you would expect a home to be. The beds all have pillow top mattresses with 400 thread count sheets, and the kitchen is fully stocked.

Most homes on Lake Nantahala have 75 to over 100 steps down a steep bank to the lake. Our home has a very gradual path from the dock to the house. We have guests who have stayed elsewhere with many steps to the lake and we always get comments as to what a relief this house is. Be sure to ask how many steps there are to the lake before you rent.

Our lakeside deck is the perfect place to relax, eat dinner, watch the children swim, and roast marshmallows at night in the fire pit area. Our home has central heat and air, but because it is located at over 3000 feet of elevation you rarely need the air conditioning. Once you experience Lake Nantahala, vacationing on any other lake becomes out of the question.

Bring your fishing gear and fish the lake or fly fish on the Nantahala River. The river hosted the 2011 USA National Fly Fishing Championships. The river is located less than 15 minutes from our home. A North Carolina fishing license and trout stamp is required, which you can get online or nearby at Bryant’s Bait & Tackle Shop.

Excellent class II-III whitewater rafting is located about twenty-five minutes from our home at the Nantahala Outdoor Center - voted by Good Morning America and National Geographic Adventure Magazine as the #1 family vacation spot in America. There is also some amazing ziplining - including a 1/2 mile zipline through the beautiful Nantahala gorge!

The Nantahala River hosted the 2013 World Freestyle Kayaking Championships with athletes from over 50 Countries participating. The Rivers End Café is located there, where you can sit on the river’s edge and watch the kayakers and rafters and enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner. (seasonal)

There are many treasures to find on the lake, including the rope swing and a short hike to a hidden waterfall. You will love this beautiful, clean lake!

About Curt and Suzanne Smith

We have loved Lake Nantahala for many years and own another vacation retreat close to this property. We hope to share our beautiful lake and surrounding mountains with you and your family for a vacation you will always remember.

Curt and Suzanne Smith purchased this house in 2014

Why Curt and Suzanne Smith chose Topton

Lake Nantahala is a beautiful, clean, clear mountain lake, located at a high elevation to alleviate the summer heat and bugs. We hope that we have made every effort for you to feel comfortable in our lake house.

What makes this house unique

The fact that there are only a few steps down to the dock is a huge advantage to this house. Many houses on the lake have over 100 steps down (and back up!) to the dock.

This house was absolutely beautiful, and perfect for that we needed! We got married at the venue within walking distance to the house, so it made everything extremely convenient. We had a blast on the kayaks and the outdoor space was amazing! The neighbors were great, we spoke to everyone we met, and they were so warm and welcoming.

Also, Suzanne was a dream to work with, she was so responsive and accommodating, I appreciate everything that she did for us! I would definitely recommend staying here and I would stay here again!

We enjoyed your lovely home. We did miss not having satellite service on the television to catch up on news and sports during the week. Perhaps someday, finishing the stairs on down to the boat dock might make access easier. Overall lovely home and we enjoyed time spent hiking in the area and boating on the lake. Beautiful location, thank you.

Owner's Response: I am so glad that you had a great time! I agree that the satellite issue has been a real pain for most of the summer. The overgrowth of the trees on the neighbor's property has been blocking the satellite and despite many visits from Direct TV and Dish we have no way to overcome it until the leaves come down and we can target the correct branches. Hoping to have that resolved this winter. The water level of the lake always affects how far the dock is from the last step and we have no way to control that one. Thanks for staying with us! Suzanne Smith

The home was all we had hoped it would be an more. It was well stocked with all that you could possibly need. The pontoon boat was great for early morning and afternoon rides. The owners were easy to work with. Overall a great experience at a awesome lake home.

Family Gathering @ Lake Nantahala, NC

  • 5 of 5

We had a very enjoyable week with our extended family - 6 parents and 6 kids aged 3 - 10. The kids loved the water toys, swimming around the dock, and the pontoon for tubing and rides to the rope swing. Overall the accommodations were very nice for us, a family on each of the three floors. The media room was a hangout for the kids also. We parents loved the cozy living room for quiet conversations and relaxing away from it all. The second refrigerator was a real plus with all the food we brought in. Everyone said they would like to come back. How better to describe a great vacation place!

Well-appointed getaway with boat!

  • 5 of 5

This quality vacation property is clean, tastefully decorated, well-equipped, spacious, quiet, just steps to the clear-watered Lake Nantahala, and managed efficiently and honestly by the owners. Our family enjoyed boating daily, evening meals on the covered deck, cooking in the well-equipped kitchen, hiking to the waterfall on the lake, swimming off the dock, kayaking, and even jogging the access road! We will definitely return to Lake Nantahala and rent this property again!

Amazing Place

  • 5 of 5

We had three families stay together and the house was perfect. The young adults had their own space downstairs with a theatre room and pool table. The house is also stocked with plenty of movies and games. Each of the adult couples had their own bedroom. The house is awesome and nicely decorated! The owners have thought of everything. We all really enjoyed being right on the lake and the use of the pontoon boat. The area is beautiful. We couldn't of asked for a better vacation. I highly recommend this property!
