To reach our home, you turn off Goose Creek Valley Road (Virginia 695) onto Partridge Lane, which is a private, one-lane, half-mile gravel/dirt road that is uneven in spots, take right fork in the road after crossing bridge. Four wheel drive vehicle with clearance is HIGHLY recommended. The road also is used by neighboring farmers as a right of way, but otherwise this is a private road that serves only our home.

Quiet and peaceful place to relax and unwind

  • 5 of 5

This home just screams, "come on in, grab a hot cup of coffee, kick your feet up and relax." So quiet and peaceful. Clean and comfortable with plenty of room. The views are amazing and can be seen in every direction. Home owner was wonderful, friendly and a joy to communicate with. We stayed here while visiting family in the area and will rent it again when we come back. Didn't want to leave when it was time! Thanks!!

Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I really enjoyed the weekend away from normal life, beautiful sunrise, nice view of mountains, felt like I was far away form the responsibility's of life which we need sometime. The cow pasture and cows took me back to my childhood as my Father's Uncle had them as I was growing up, the things I learned from them. Not to far from Roanoke and other places, very clean cabin, owners are very nice and made contact with them before we left to come up for the weekend to give any information to help out with anything. We saw deer, hawks, crows and a coyote way up at the back of wood line of the mountain, it was nice to see nature, where I live all the old farm lands get sold and developed into subdivisions.

Great place in the VA mountains

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking to get away from it all in the middle of a cow pasture, this is your place! Quaint house north of Roanoke VA is far enough away from it all to see a million stars and not hear a single bit of traffic, yet close enough to visit some of the area attractions if desired. This is our second year having a mini-family reunion here and we will be back. We recommend it.

My overall impression was great, well kept and clean inside and out.

  • 4 of 5

The location was beautiful and very remote. My family and I had a great time there. There were plenty of things to do in and around the house, even without the wi-fi. I would love to back there with just my wife and I to do some exploring of the surrounding area.

Owner's Response: We're glad you both had such a good time. Please come back and explore the region here in Virginia's Blue Ridge -- there's so much history, from the local train culture in Roanoke to the D-Day Memorial in Bedford. Thomas Jefferson's summer home, Poplar Forest, is nearby as well. And of course you can't beat this region for hiking and mountain biking. We hope to see you again soon!

Great Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a long weekend in a group that included a 5 year-old, 3 year-old, and 1 year-old. We wanted somewhere remote because we were bringing a telescope to do some stargazing and astronomical photography, and it was a great place for that. The kids also had a fantastic time playing outside, and we really appreciated how safe the fire circle is in the back, with a nice, high ring of cement blocks around it. We had a campfire and did hot dogs and s'mores, and we never had any issues with kids getting too close. The inside of the house was very clean (even when we had to retrieve a toy from under furniture!), and I appreciated the owners' detailed instructions for using the media equipment. Really my only complaint (and it's not one they could likely do much about) is that there was so much cow manure in the yard from calf escapees from the neighboring farms. I grew up around livestock, so I'm used to it, and I know how difficult it is to keep calves from getting out, but it was tough to keep telling the kids to watch their step. It just made it harder for everyone to relax outside. But I think it just comes with the territory -- this house is a rural experience, and that's what we were going for. And at least the kids enjoyed watching the calves meander through the yard every evening. Also, Roanoke was only a 30-40 minute drive, so if you want a nice restaurant or something to do on a rainy day, it's really not hard to find. The Virginia Museum of Transportation was really fun for our train-lovers. Thanks for a nice stay!

Owner's Response: Thank you for providing so much detail in your response. It's very helpful to future guests to give them a better idea of what they'll experience at Partridge Lane, which is definitely a "rural experience" but close enough to Roanoke, Bedford and Lynchburg that it's easy to get away for many shopping, dining and entertainment options. Come back soon!
