Traveling to Athens with family, but still want a 5-star experience? You’ve come to the right place.
Our Athens First Luxury Duplex Penthouse was the property that started it all, setting the tone for Greek Vacation Rentals with its modern furnished living spaces and amazing location right in the heart of Athens.
Light-filled and homey – but with all the little touches to remind you that you’re on vacation – this 3-bedroom, 2-bath sanctuary is located on a quiet street just steps from all the action. After your days spent exploring, step inside and fall into the American-style comforts of home.
SPACE TO UNWIND
The sun-soaked rooms are airy and inviting, with a fully stocked kitchen to delight foodies and their hungry families. Don’t worry, you’ll find all the needed conveniences to make dining-in a breeze (like coffee machine, dishwasher, and full-sized washer and dryer – a rarity in central Athens!).
The apartment is spread comfortably over two levels, making it a great choice for couples traveling together who want privacy; or multi-generational families keen to explore all the riches of the Greek capital.
With three levels of outdoor living space, you can wake up slowly with a cup of coffee overlooking the city or sink into a couch in the shade after a day’s exploring. There's a private veranda on each level, plus an Acropolis view terrace on the rooftop. We can't think of anywhere better to enjoy a glass of ouzo than overlooking the Acropolis and Mount Lykavittos.
3 BEDROOMS / 2 BATHROOMS
The master bedroom located on the main floor has a plush Queen bed dressed in high thread-count linens, with the convenience of a bathroom with glass-enclosed walk-in shower right next door.
On the second level, you’ll find a bedroom with a double bed and a third room with a double bed and 2 twin beds (ideal for globe-trotting kids), with a shared bathroom featuring an American-style bath-shower combo. The bedrooms sleep 7, and a sofabed sleeps 2 more.
You'll find authentic Athens right outside your door in tree-lined squares, restaurants, and farmers' markets. Your central location also means that the city's rich historical center is just steps away. Walk or hop on the tram to visit the city's top museums (the Cycladic, the Benaki, and the National Art Gallery to name a few). You can also study modern Greek life with people-watching in the parks and cafes you'll find along the way.
You won't need a car to get around Athens, but if you have one, we've got convenient indoor parking.
AMERICAN COMFORT IN ATHENS
We know you want an authentic Greek experience – the food, the history, the people – but when it comes to sleeping and dining-in, you crave the little (or not so little) comforts of home.
We hear you. As travelers ourselves – who appreciate a great bed and a gourmet kitchen as much as you do – we've given our properties full American-style renovations, meaning our modern bathrooms are fully functional and luxurious (go on and flush that TP - we can't say the same for other bathrooms in Athens!). You'll also find imported Sealy Posturepedic mattresses, cotton-soft robes, and full-sized appliances to make your time in Athens as easy as pie (or a honey-soaked Greek baklava, if you prefer).
Make yourself at home at our First Luxury Duplex Penthouse, the perfect recipe for an authentic modern Athens experience.

About Carole Heiman Kezios
Wow, who would have thought when I told my husband I wanted to buy a little pied-a-terre in his hometown, Athens, Greece, that I'd end up with the greatest accidental career of my life? Born and raised in Chicago, my love for travel was evident early on. Perhaps it was my arrival in the world, early one December morning, way quicker than my siblings had, in fact so quick we were still enroute to the hospital, and I still hold the title of youngest patient ever admitted to that north suburban hospital! (And thus, as a Sagittarius, characteristically smitten with wunderlust). I traveled my home country extensively with my family as a child, and was fortunate to have parents who encouraged us to study a second language young.
Why Carole Heiman Kezios chose Athens
While my language of choice as a child was French, my culture of choice was Greek - My earliest jobs were always in Chicago's Greek diners, my university days filled with hours playing backgammon in the cafeteria with my Greek friends, and my Eurail passes always started and ended my European backpacking holidays in Greece. So no one was surprised when I met Basil, a romantic writer but practicing translator and linguist, born and bred in Athens, but transplanted to Chicago, fell in love, and married him. While our life in Chicago was full, rehabbing a warehouse we purchased to house ourselves, our son and our growing Greek translation agency, I longed to plant some roots for our family in Basil's hometown. A small studio overlooking Mount Lykavittos was to be our Athens crash pad, but thanks to what seemed then an unfortunate turn of events, our home in Athens ended up being the beautiful Athens First Luxury Duplex. Larger than we had planned, offering it as a short term furnished rental seemed the logical way to afford it. Little did we realize that it would become so popular we'd be sleeping on friend's couches rather than in our own Athens home! Tired of being homeless in Athens, we purchased a second penthouse directly adjacent to the Athens First. In 2006 we completed the renovations of three additional short term furnished rentals.
What makes this Apartment unique
As I said early on, this is the greatest accidental business one could imagine, and I love sharing my adopted city with visitors. Our guests repeatedly thank us for the little extras that often mean so much when you are planning what is often a once in a lifetime trip. As an ex-pat in Athens, I know the wonderful off the beaten path places that can make a holiday special, and I also know how to stay on the tourist path without feeling like you are being herded along with the crowds. Feel free to email me with your questions as you plan your trip to Athens - just one of the little extras guests of Greek Vacation Rentals will find when they share our homes in Athens.

I loved it
Everything about this apartment is excellent, Carole , Nadia and Nick were all very pleasant and professional , I was in other apartments during my trip to Europe and by far this apartment is the best, it is well furnished well equipped and all what we needed was already there the moment we stepped into the apartment. If I go to Athens again , I will stay in the same apartment.
Wonderful week in Athens
Our family is scattered all across the US. We were looking forward to spending time together and catching up. My brother booked a Festiva sailing vacation (awesome!)in the Cyclades and we topped it off with a week in Athens. The Athens First apartment was perfect for our needs. It offered a fill-sized refrigerator, well -appointed kitchen, two bathrooms (one with a tub!) and a lovely outdoor area where we gathered both before and after long sightseeing days. We highly recommend the foodie tour! The apartment was nicely decorated, spotlessly clean and had a much needed washer and dryer. We were welcomed with a food basket and wine, saving us from having to go to the grocery the day of check in. All in all, it was perfect for our needs. Carole, Basil, Nadia (conducted the Foodie Tour) and Nick (wealth of knowledge) were all so informative and helpful. Highly recommend a stay here!
Thanks so much sharing your experience. We're so happy that we were able to help your family plan an amazing Greek holiday. We hope we will be able to welcome you back again, either in Greece or in our Chicago Magic Factory Lofts vacation rental homes.
We stayed at this delightful apartment for five days during the middle of a heat wave in Athens. The apartment was clean and well stocked! We loved the showers and the thick towels. Sitting out at night having a BBQ of lamb sausages from the butcher across the street was a lovely way to reflect on our day of sightseeing. Our three teenagers appreciated their own bathrooms and the wifi. I highly recommend a stay here if you are headed to Athens! Thanks Carole!
Beautiful Duplex in a wonderful location!
This property was gorgeous, very comfortable. The A/C worked very well, which was important since Athens was 109F during our stay. The duplex is very clean. The owners have worked hard to make it comfortable. They arranged all airport transfers for us, as well as wonderful tours of the city. My favorite was the food tour with Nadia who took us through the local markets- highly recommend!
The beds and bathrooms are all very clean and comfortable. Hot showers felt wonderful after a day touring the city.
In the evenings, we loved walking to many local restaurants recommended by Carole (the owner) and Nadia. The location is perfect with a rooftop view of the Acropolis. There is also a washer/dryer which was nice. All of the drivers and guides were knowledgeable and very kind.
I highly recommend staying in this duplex, we didn't know what to expect but it was fabulous- plenty of room, clean, comfortable, and gorgeous! We would stay again if we are lucky enough to come to Greece again!
Basil, Nadia and I are so happy we could be a part of making your Greek journey special. We do hope you'll return to Greece and that we can share more of this beautiful country with you and your family.
Perfect for Families or Small Groups
We were family of 5 adults. The 3 bedroom modern apartment in the Pangrati area was perfect. Safe, modern plumbing and modern appliances. Good air conditioning and a nice , comfortable additional living space on the balcony.
Plenty of room. Two full and updated bathrooms. The grocery was 2 blocks away on main street. The gyro shop on the corner had great gyros for lunch or a late return- 2,5 euros each. The restaurants in the area were great. 15 min walk to Metro. 2 stops to Acropolis, 1 stop to other central Athens sites. Metro links to the Harbor for Island trips. Carole offered so much advice and help. Her arranged trips and guides were all top notch. Our adult children (all 20 somethings) had fantastic experience living like the locals. We would highly recommend. Even though we did lots of walking, there are cabs about 2 blocks away, and buses 1-2 blocks away. Cab to Syntagma square about 5 euro. Combo 5 day passes for Metro/bus/trolley only 9 euros. We LOVED our Athens stay!
Thanks for sharing your experience in our Athens penthouse. Basil and and I are happy we were able to help you experience Greek life with all of the comforts of home.
I personally loved being able to help you plan your time in Athens - our little Athens team of drivers & guides loved spending time with your family.
The place has all the comforts of home. Carole has thought of everything. It is not too far from the city center, it is less of a "touristy" area and the restaurants are very good and inexpensive. The bakery was wonderful and every morning we had a delicious breakfast. Carole set up some fabulous tours for us and she takes care of everything. I would highly recommend using her expertise. Loved the food tour of Athens, and the tour to Poseidon's Temple. Carole also found us a guide for the Acropolis, she was outstanding! I will continue to use her homes, I want to go to Chicago just to use her vacation rental!!
We are so happy that we could help you have an amazing experience in Greece and we cannot wait for you to come visit us in Chicago! (Hoping we plan it so that we're not back in Athens when you come, else you may have to return to Greece instead!
