About Denise Reid

We were lucky enough to relocated to Shelter Cove from Dana Point, Ca in 2004.

Denise Reid purchased this house in 2013

Why Denise Reid chose North Coast

Just about everything in the house is new and custome. A lot of time and love went into it. The house is within walking distance to the coffee shop, the pizza place, Black Sands beach, golf course and two walking trails.

The house is close enough to the airport that you could walk there if you had to. We live in Shelter Cove full time and are available if problems occur.

Great place for family to gather

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for my husband's family during our wedding weekend. They loved their stay! Views were great and they had everything they needed for a weekend away in Shelter Cove!

Good spot

  • 5 of 5

As long as you are coming up there to cook, talk and enjoy the ocean view its a great place. If you have people in you crew that TV or WIFI is a must this may not be the best place. All it all the owner was very helpful and we enjoyed our stay. I would stay here again.

Great accommodation.

  • 5 of 5

The house was newly remodeled and a joy to use. The view from the balcony is idyllic, and there is a large picnic/grilling/fire area below it. Short walk to the black sand beach, tide pools, and "downtown". And though I discounted it at first, the game room with table tennis was a big hit with all! There were no deficiencies I could find. Highly recommended.

Shelter Cove Stay

  • 3 of 5

The property was beautiful, House had lots of bathrooms and plenty of space for 5. We appreciated having our dog with us. We all enjoyed the close proximity to Black Sands Beach.

I should have done more research to find out what was available in Shelter Cove. It is a great getaway to REALLY relax...no phone service, no internet which we appreciated in the small dose. Plan to eat in unless you want pizza...not much in the way of places to eat or cafe's or even stores. Grocery store is a mile or two up the road into town.

If you are well informed you will bring what you need and REALLY enjoy the house. Our grown kids loved playing ping pong. We also hung out at picnic table in yard and read a lot.

Thank YOU!!

Map

Nearest Motorway

Car: necessary

Three blocks from Big Black Sand Beach. Four blocks to Little Black Sand Beach. Located on the North end of the Cove, usually out of the fog and the wind. There is a public nine hole golf course where every hole has an ocean view. A deal at only $10 a day.

World class mountain bike trails in the Kings Range only about 5 miles away.

Walking trails within walking distance, including a Fitness trail.

Point break surfing at Big Flat to longboard cruising at Wash Rock.Dead Man's and No Pass offer more of a challenge. Four wheel drive Vehicle access during low tides. When the swell is big you'll see towing surfing. Paddle boarding in the bay.

Fishing for Black Cod and Blue Cod, Ling Cod Cabazon, Vermillion (west coast Red Snapper). The King Salmon's are caught here with a 2 per day limit. Flat fish are also abundant, including the Pacific and California Halibut. We have two seasons of Dungeness Crab (the meatiest crab) with a 10 a day limit. Albacore Tuna arrive when the water temperature hits 63 degrees, catch as many as your boat holds. Pretty everything you can catch on the boat except Salmon and Tuna you can catch on on the shore (I'm just going to let it be known I've seen friends and family catching Salmon from Kayaks).

For a taste of the past Abalone is still found in the coves. Shelter Cove is a one time record holder for the largest Abalone at 11 5/8'.

Muscles, clams, octopus, and even Sea Urchin's.

Day and yearly Fishing licenses, and Abalone report cards are available.

The Cape Mendocino Light house was relocated here to the Cove. They open up during the summers on the weekends

There are Tide Pools were we've found Abalone shells the size of my pinky fingernail. You'll find crab, snails, hermit crabs, sea anemone, Sea Lions, Elephant Seals, River Otters playing in the surf, Pelicans. See the Osprey dive bombing for fish. We've seen Bald Eagles!

The house is 5 blocks from the air strip.
