About Virginia or David

The Cartner family has roots in the area that run deep. Their family has a love for the Appalachian Mountains that began with the Cartner Christmas Tree Farm. Family owned and operated in the Blue Ridge Mountains, founders, Sam and Margaret Cartner, have been growing high quality Fraser fir Christmas trees since 1959.

We invite our guests to explore the nearby tree farm. Finding the farm is easy. All you have to do is walk out the door of the Rabbit Hill House, or the Bunkhouse to miles of grass trails that lead through the Christmas tree farm, all the way to a fire tower that’s located at an elevation of 4,400 feet. It’s there that you will find yourself surrounded by stunning mountain views. You’ll quickly understand why the Cartners call this area home. We hope you enjoy your stay as much as we have and continue to do.

What makes this lodge unique

Sleeps up to 24 people, and is ideal for a large gathering, whether a Family Reunion, a Faith Based Event, a Group or Social event, where communal living is desirable. We also include bedding (sheets and blankets), Firewood (for the WoodStove and Fireplace) and toiletries (shampoos, soap, etc.) for our paid guests.

Awesome place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

This bunkhouse is AMAZING!! I highly recommend it! Perfect for big groups.

It's clean, well stocked and has two fully equipped kitchens. One in each floor.

The owners, David and Virginia are very kind and were very helpful throughout the whole process and afterwards.

They provided a complimentary Christmas tree with lights and decoration, which was fantastic for us!

It was easy to find the house with the directions that owner sent prior to the trip.

The two things that I most loved of this bunkhouse were the stunning view and the fact that it's near to Sugar Mountain for those who love skiing during the winter.

Couldn't be happier with this place. Location, amenities and hospitality were above expectations.

Will definitely rent in the future!
