About Virginia or David
The Cartner family has roots in the area that run deep. Their family has a love for the Appalachian Mountains that began with the Cartner Christmas Tree Farm. Family owned and operated in the Blue Ridge Mountains, founders, Sam and Margaret Cartner, have been growing high quality Fraser fir Christmas trees since 1959. We invite our guests to explore the nearby tree farm. Finding the farm is easy. All you have to do is walk out the door of the Rabbit Hill House, or the Bunkhouse to miles of grass trails that lead through the Christmas tree farm, all the way to a fire tower that’s located at an elevation of 4,400 feet. It’s there that you will find yourself surrounded by stunning mountain views. You’ll quickly understand why the Cartners call this area home. We hope you enjoy your stay as much as we have and continue to do.

Plenty of space, gorgeous views
Great option for a group outing
Great Church College Ski Retreat
I brought 16 college students from our church up to ski at Sugar. There was a warm fire waiting for our arrival and beds with clean sheets. The accomodations were great as was the view. We were less than 20 minutes from the slopes and everyone really liked it. Got some excellent local pizza from Riverwalk Pizza only 6 minutes from the house. Owners were great to work with. Would definitely book again.
Could be a nice place
The location and view were perfect, but there are some maintenance and upkeep issues that if they were updated and repaired, this would be a really nice place. The Property Manager did respond once to some issues we had and that was appreciated, but if a little TLC was invested in these maintenance needs, the house would be great for large groups on a budget.
Wonderful place for a large group!
We were evacuating from hurricane Florence and found this wonderful rental! It was perfect for our large crowd. The owners were amazing people that made sure we had everything we needed. They were very compassionate towards our situation. I would highly recommend renting with them!
Great cozy house fits a lot of people
We loved this house it fit our group perfectly
Awesome place to stay!
This bunkhouse is AMAZING!! I highly recommend it! Perfect for big groups.
It's clean, well stocked and has two fully equipped kitchens. One in each floor.
The owners, David and Virginia are very kind and were very helpful throughout the whole process and afterwards.
They provided a complimentary Christmas tree with lights and decoration, which was fantastic for us!
It was easy to find the house with the directions that owner sent prior to the trip.
The two things that I most loved of this bunkhouse were the stunning view and the fact that it's near to Sugar Mountain for those who love skiing during the winter.
Couldn't be happier with this place. Location, amenities and hospitality were above expectations.
Will definitely rent in the future!
Thanks for the kind words! We would love to host you and your group again. Happy 2018!
