Our home is located in Historic Old Town Warrenton on Main Street right next to the Mosby Museum. Enjoy strolling down Main Street visiting the quaint shops and historic buildings or relaxing on the balcony over looking Main Street. From the back door you look down on a flower garden, birds, butterflies and lovely 1/2 acre yard.
Our home was built approximately in 1859, right before the Civil War. A likeness of our home was included in a sketch by Theodore Davis Leslies for Harpers Weekly in 1862. A copy of this sketch is located in the foyer of the apartment. The apartment consists of the upper floor of our home and has been a separate apartment for many many years. During recent renovations we discovered the box locks located in the oldest part of the home are dated 1861, right before the Civil War. The upstairs 2 bedroom 1 Bath apartment has large rooms, the kitchen is equipped with dishes, pots and pans, appliances, and most items to make it easy to prepare meals. The 2 queen size beds are equipped with Select Comfort Mattresses for your comfort.
It is a very short walk to the restaurants, bakery, shops, museums, the library, banks, post office and the Court House. The Court House has burned twice in its history. In our front yard a base to one of the columns of the Court House has been left there for many years. It is made of seneca red limestone which is very rare. We have no idea how it came to be located in our front yard.
Being located in Warrenton, we are close enough to easily visit or work in Washington DC, yet provide a relaxing and comfortable place to stay away from the big city. We are close to several Wineries, Equestrian sites, including the Gold Cup, Museums, Luray Caverns, Skyline Drive, The Blue Ridge and numerous other interesting places in Northern Virginia. We are interested in catering to tourists for short visits to the area for special events, fun and relaxation. We are also interest in providing a short term home while waiting for a home to be built or guests that are new to the area and need a temporary home. Give us a call so we can discuss your specific needs.
We moved to Warrenton to be near grandchildren and a new job in Washington, DC in 2010.
Robin or Brian Barnard purchased this apartment in 2011
We had been looking for a home for months while living in our daughters basement. We were looking mainly in the country for a little acreage. After Christmas in 2010 we drove by this beautiful house on Main Street and decided we had to look. Our realtor told us it was the first house we entered where we both started smiling when we walked in the front door. We loved it immediately. It was beautiful to us from day one even though it needed some TLC. We have enjoyed every minute of stripping wall paper, patching and painting. It has been a labor of love. It is not a fancy victorian home but it is a beautiful and unique Farm Style home. In many of the rooms the heart pine floors go from wall to wall in one piece. We are tickled and excited to have the upstairs apartment ready for you!
This apartment is perfect if you are moving to the area and want to look around before buying or need a home while waiting for your home to be built. Do you have family in the area? Stay in our comfortable apartment while visiting the area. Our shortest rental term is 3 months.

This property is perfect for a family visiting the area. The accommodations comfortably suited our family of 5 while visiting over Thanksgiving. The kitchen was very useful. The owners are welcoming and easy to work with. I will definitely return to this charming location the next time I visit the area.
Had the pleasure of staying at 185 Main from October 18, 2016 to October 25, 2016. This absolutely charming apartment is five stars without question. It offers all the comforts of home and is conveniently located within blocks to the shops, galleries and restaurants of historic downtown Warrenton. Walking Main Street on a crisp and clear fall day just can not be beat. Thank you Robin and Brian for creating this wonderful space in such an enjoyable place. I'd love to come back and visit again.
My husband, adult daughters and I needed to find a place to stay while attending a wedding in the country near Warrenton. I'm so glad the Holiday Inn was booked, because that led me to the Barnard's house. The apartment was spacious and lovely, and perfect for my family. We would have had to book two rooms at a hotel. This apartment was much bigger, nicer, more convenient and less expensive than a hotel would have been. The Barnards were gracious and accommodating hosts. It was also nice to be able to walk into town to explore the shops and restaurants. I highly recommend their apartment.
My husband and I stayed January 2016 through March 2016. We needed a temporary place to live after selling our home nearby. Robin and Brian are amazing hosts. The house is beautiful, and the apartment is perfect. Clean, spacious, well appointed kitchen, comfortable beds and great location. Steps from shops and restaurants in Old Town Warrenton. I highly recommend staying here if you ever get the chance.
'I could stay here forever'...those five words say all there is to say about our month long visit. Wonderful hosts, beautiful historic home in a walkable historic district. Everything the other reviews have said and more. Robin, Brian it has truly been a pleasure - hope to see you again. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us.
my husband and I lived in No.Va. All our lives until we retired to Fl. We still have a lot of family living in this area. We usually stay in a hotel and after a week we're ready to go home. We loved staying in Robin and Brian's beautiful home. Everything was just like the pictures, even a little better. Everything was so nice and comfortable and Robin and Brian are 2 of the nicest people you will ever meet. Old Town Warrenton looks like a Norman Rockwell picture. People always sitting outside shops and restaurants visiting. Dog bowls of water and treats outside of many shops. I would recommend this place to anyone. Only hope we can stay here next year.
