I'm a retired architect. This is our primary home but my wife and I want to spend time with our children and grandchildren who are on the west coast. We plan to spend extended stays in San Diego and Portland OR and are going to try renting our house out for the months when we're gone.
Robert Schwartz purchased this house in 2007
We owned a big old country house in Chevy Chase in DC. Eventually Carol's parents were gone and then the kids moved out. We searched the DC area for a good neighborhood to down size into and found this house. It was an empty wreck, just what I wanted as an architect. We gutted it and built what we wanted, everything but the brick walls, floor joists, roof rafters and a few of the windows are new. The location has everything we want within walking distance.
Everyone who comes to our house loves it. It's beautiful and comfortable. It works well for just us or for parties or visiting relatives. The back yard and patio are soothing with the sound of a gentle waterfall. The house feels spacious but is not grand but intimate feeling. The house was written up as a feature article in the Washington Post Real Estate Section.
Our home was overfull and we had five more out of town family members arriving for Thanksgiving week. Finding this wonderful home for my extended family was pure luck and we could not have been more pleased from the first moment we saw this architect's home. The layout of the house provided quality private spaces and wonderful light. Many of the rooms looked out to the green park like garden that backed to the bike trail leading to town. The house was clean and the beds comfortable. This is a great single family, owner occupied neighborhood. I would not hesitate to rent this home again and am very comfortable that anyone we would recommend this home to would have a similar wonderful experience. The location is good for parking, easy access to downtown, metro, or the beltway. The owners provided excellent customer service along with a written guide for the home.
The back yard is a small wild life sanctuary and it backs up on the Crescent Trail. This wooded trail leads to Bethesda and continues down to Georgetown and the Potomac River. DC has, of course, many must see sites.
