Anchors Away is a wonderful house. Nice but comfortable, best part is dog friendly. My two dogs had freedom to play and swim. The lake is beautiful and the fishing was great!! What a wonderful vacation. It is not on the beach but so close you can hear the waves breaking. The home had everything we needed to be happy and comfortable.
Large group, expected to be able to sleep 16 as advertised. If you include sleeping on couches, ok. There were like 5 coffee cups, we went to yard sales and bought cups, left them for the next people. for sleeping 16, having lake and jaccouzi access, 8 towels did not cover it, no laundry soap so we could wash them. Also, no dishwasher detergent and only a 2 ounce bottle of dish liquid. Several trips to the store later, we could at least wash dishes. The jaccouzi was 84 degrees and we had to wait for it to have the filters cleaned and then 24 hours for it to heat. LOTS of foam on it, and that should have warned us. My son and an adult in our party both got hot-tub funiculitis (A bacterial infection from the water) VERY itchy and miserable, my son required antibiotics. The kayaks and fishing gear was great, but of the bikes there, most had flat tires, so no riding for the kids.
Stayed here second time since 2015. Loved it. Thank you for providing a great stay for our large family. We plan to be back soon. Highly recommended.
This is a great house for the ultimate family/group relaxing vacation. It's ideally situated by the lake, with its own dock, very private and quiet. The house is pretty old, dark, with shaky electrical and dirty carpet, so bring your sleepers; but if you pass that, it's large, open with plenty of space on both stories for all and beautiful views from the wrap around deck. You can feel that the owner thought of everything you might need from plenty of extra towels to baby equipment, large size washer/dryer, great bedding to firewood. The best part though is the amount of entertainment options, pool table, foosball table, music, dozens of movies, 2 TVs, a full closet of board games. Outside options are great too, from the kayaks and bikes to the fishing equipment and Jacuzzi. Unfortunately some guests are not as respectful with equipment and it's kind of a mess in the garage with several bikes not in working condition as well as broken pool sticks, scratch DVDs and a nonworking grill. A well stock grocery store is less than 1/2mile away. We had an issue with the kitchen sink and the property management was very quick and friendly in their response, a big plus.
Our family had a lot of fun, we enjoyed our stay. The 3 stars are for the inability to use some of the equipment and dirty carpet.
The boats were really fun. The hot tub was a blast. There was plenty of bedding so we could have had even more than the 16 people we had. The house has an older feel to it, but it's clean and well kept. Just a tip: the nearest grocery store (Ray's) is pretty expensive, so shop 30 minutes away, on your way out.
We stayed at Anchors Away vacation rental over the Memorial Day weekend with our two teenage sons. The House was absolutely enormous! There is truly room to sleep 16! There are three bedrooms upstairs which would fit two people per room, a sunroom (no closet) with two day beds and a basement with two trundles to sleep 8. Our boys loved the vast movie selection, pool table and foosball table. There is also a basketball hoop in the garage.
The hot tub was clean and overlooked the picturesque lake. We took the kayaks across the lake to the beach and walked to where Garrison Lake flows into the Pacific Ocean; a truly magnificent sight! We saw seals right off the beach and some amazing tide pools. The beach is very private; a rock hound's dream. You can drive to beach access if it is too windy to kayak or row in the row boat.
There are not many shopping options in Port Orford but plenty to do and very friendly people in town. My recommendations: Cape Blanco Lighthouse, Hughes Ranch, Coastguard Lifeboat Museum, hiking one of many trails at Port Orford Heads State Park (all mostly free or nominal charge). A short drive to Bandon takes you to the West Coast Game Park Safari. Albeit a little spendy ($17.50 per adult)this experience was unforgettable! Buy a feeder cone and when you enter the gate, you are bombarded by deer, goats, llamas and sheep who follow you and show much love. You can pet a baby bear cub, a fox and see unique animals like a white tiger. My teenagers loved it!
Two grandkids, friends and some of my adult children stayed at Anchor's Away. It was a lovely stay in the perfectly small town with great beaches. The house has everything you need to be at home and entertained. The hot tub, boat and kayaks are especially fun for everyone. My grandson learned to ride a bike while we were there on one of the provided bikes. It's not a fancy home, but it is large, comfortable and feels homey. The living areas are fabulous and having several bathrooms was a delight. It was easy to rent and everything went smoothly.
Deer and quail visited us daily. The hot tub was a hit and overlooks the lake for a beautiful view.
Great time! Thanks!
