About Hal or Meg Williams
Hal and Meg train thoroughbreds during the Churchill Downs' Spring Meet. They live at Audubon Landing from April to July every year while in Kentucky. The rest of the year is split between racing in Hot Springs, Arkansas during the winter months and home in Red Lodge, Montana.
Hal or Meg Williams purchased this House in 2014
Why Hal or Meg Williams chose Poplar Level
The Williams' chose this property for several distinct reasons. Location. Location. Location is number one through three. It is close to the track, the airport, park/green space, the Audubon neighborhood, grocery shopping and the dining and entertainment opportunities of the Bardstown/Highlands area. The home itself is in great shape, well constructed with mid-century charm. The neighborhood is quiet and friendly.

Lovely home with a great location
This is a very lovely, very clean home. Hal and Meg did an excellent job making sure our needs were met. The beds were comfortable, there were plenty of plush towels, they did an excellent job indicating in the home where to find things we might need like remote controls, extra garbage bags, etc. There were also extra things like tape, envelopes and stamps should we need them. The location was absolutely perfect! We were able to take our dog for nice walks down the street, we were close to the park, the zoo is right down the street along with the Mega Cavern, which our family really enjoyed. We would highly recommend this home and would definitely stay here again.
Thank you Kelly.
We appreciate the review and are glad you enjoyed the home and found it's location convenient. Meg and I haven't been to the Mega Cavern yet even though we could walk to it. We're always very busy when in Louisville, but we're going to have to explore the caves under our own feet!
Come back and visit.

Perfect place. Convenient, Comfortable and Cozy
Our visit tto Louisville was great. The house was perfect for two couples. Hal and Meg were awesome to work with. No surprises and always making sure we were comfortable. We did not stay long in the home at any given time but still enjoyed their lovley home. We would stay again in a heart beat. Thank you.
We're glad your party was happy in the home...what little time you spent there!
Louisville has a lot to do, easy not to spend much time about the house.
Hal and Meg have thought of everything to make us and our dog feel at home. Starting from the quick response to my questions to welcoming us to Kentucky The house was extremely clean in a wide open floor plan. Meg did an amazing job decorating! The best part for us ,the fenced in backyard . Luka enjoyed a little freedom after our 8 hour car ride.
Though the decorating is simple and clean, everything has some quality.
Meg did do a great job! ...but she did have a little help from The Spouse.
Quaint and Convenient!
My mother, her MinPin and I traveled to Louisville to visit two of her Uncles that live within 20 minutes Audubon Landing. We decided on this rental property based on location and the beautiful fenced in back yard featuring a screened in porch. Traveling with a fur baby has taken us to some less than clean homes in the past but not this one. Spic and span from top to bottom and very tastefully decorated with beautiful old woods. The pictures noted are up to date. Hal sent access information which was clear to understand and we had no challenges through out our stay. The home is close to Krogery, Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, and numerous eateries. I will also add that the gas grill came in handy after my great uncle suggested I visit "Frank's Meat Market" to purchase "Grillers". These are awesome marinated thick boneless chops that are priced fairly in an old fashion butcher shop known only to locals. They also had great steaks! Just saying. We plan to return next spring!
Our pups like the place too when Meg and I stay there.
Thank you Lora. Come back and visit.
A place to call Home
Louisville is my hometown and I return for a visit every couple of years. In the past we have stayed with family or friends but always felt we were guests and could never completely relax. We use VRBO everywhere else we travel and thought "why not here"? It was our great good fortune to find Hal and Meg at Audubon Landing. They were great to work with and carefully considered everything you could need in a rental. The house is centrally located and easily accessible to the highway so you can get anywhere quickly. It sits in a quiet walkable neighborhood with restaurants, groceries and stores nearby. The house itself has comfortable bedding and furnishings, a completely stocked kitchen and bath with wonderful water pressure in the shower, and a washer and dryer in the basement. Important to us, the backyard was completely fenced so our dogs had a place to play while we watched from the screened in sunroom. Hal made sure we knew he was always available if we needed anything, which I appreciated. All this made for a relaxing vacation and we plan on making Audubon Landing our home away from home when we visit again. Thanks Hal and Meg!
This is how we like our guests to feel about Audubon Landing. Thank you Debbie for the great rundown.
One of the most important items was NOT feeling like a guest, but rather feeling at home. Other than some of the artwork and pictures, the home is kind of a blank canvas - on purpose. We don't have any personal items or knick-knacks about the house to laden it with our personality. We want our guests to be able to imagine the house as theirs and feel the comfort of being at home.
My husband and I stayed at Audubon Landing for 2 nights and it was a wonderful experience. The location was very convenient to all the places we wanted to go in Louisville, but had the advantage of being in a quiet neighborhood. The home is equipped with everything you need and then some. It was very, very clean and comfortably furnished. The owners provide detailed instructions for everything in the home and your stay which was so useful. They were easy to contact and it was apparent that the owners wanted to ensure our stay was enjoyable. We would definitely rent the property again and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting Louisville.
Thank you Beth.
We want our guests to feel as though someone does care about their comfort without being intrusive.
We hope you do come back for a visit.
Audubon Landing is a brick, Cape Code style, mid-1950's brick home located in the quiet Poplar Level neighborhood wonderfully bookended by two of Louisville's urban treasures. Immediately to the west is stately Audubon Park and Audubon Golf Course. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the City of Audubon Park is 230 acres of classic architechture, shading mature oaks and blossoming dogwoods. Designated a bird sanctuary in 1978, the City of Audubon Park has two annual traditions: the spring Dogwood Festival and the fall Arts and Crafts Festival. It is a wonderful place to run, walk or stroll right from Audubon Landing's front steps. To the west, Louisville's Highlands area boasts an eclectic array of shops, restaurants and nightclubs. Whether in search of clothes boutiques, a neighborhood pub, upscale dining, a movie, antiques or the best breakfast in Louisville; The Highlands has it all just a couple miles away. Audubon Landing's own Poplar Level area is more parkland (80%) than developed neighborhood. It contains Joe Creason Park, historic Louisville and Calvary Cemeteries, Beargrass Creek State Nature Preserve and the Louisville Zoo, all within a mile and a half radius of Audubon Landing's driveway. It's hard to beat Audubon Landing's convenience to the basics with a spread of fast foods (from Panera Bread to McDonald's), a Walmart and a CVS Pharmacy all within a half mile. Despite it's convenience, this comfortable home away from home feels sheltered from the hubbub.
Rates & Availability
Additional information about rental rates
Our rates have recently changed due to a change in Metro Louisville tax rates on nightly rentals such as ours. The following is a breakdown of ALL Kentucky taxes that apply to this rental: 6% State Sales and Use tax; 1% State Transient Room Tax and now 8.5% Metro Louisville Transient Room Tax. In early Fall 2017 we lowered our nightly base rate from $165/night to $149/night to absorb more than half of this total tax rate. We are committed to staying competitive with local options for accommodations and feel strongly that we achieve that goal. We look forward to you finding out for yourself the value of this nice little home in a great location.
