Very cute and cozy cabin. Friendly dog and funny goats with a view of roaming cattle from the window.

Beautiful, Rustic and Charming

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Marianne's place for 2 nights and fell in love. First, she was very helpful when we had questions for us and we felt very comfortable on her property. She was kind enough to even let us stay even though she had a big sale going on that weekend. The cabin is super cute and both beds are very comfortable. Bathroom was impeccably clean and with great soaps and towels. There is a long gravel road to get back to the cabin, but as long as you drive slow, its not a problem and not very long. The outdoor space has a table and chairs and its gorgeous to sit out there and watch the stars at night. The location couldn't be more perfect....close to Columbia and Murphy's as well as Angel's Camp. We will definitely stay here again!

Wonderful Rustic Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Great place to getaway and enjoy true peacefulness! I had a fantastic relaxing and quiet 2 days there. Perfectly furnished in true rustic decor, this cabin will provide all the comfort you need. The animals are all friendly and Marianne made a great hostess! The outdoors views and great starlit sky at night make this a very calm and peaceful place! Definitely will return soon!

Thank you!

We LOVED it!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Marianne's cabin was absolutely perfect. We felt like we were "away from it all" but Sonora, shopping, good food, lovely libations, and even live music and dancing was only ~10 minutes away. We also went on an amazing hike. The cabin was attentively equipped and thoughtfully decorated. Marianne was a gracious host and she has certainly been blessed with a piece of property that is truly a slice of paradise. My husband now wants his own goats :-). We would stay there again without hesitation. Heck - we could live there with out hesitation! :-)

The perfect cabin getaway - balancing rustic with creature-comforts

  • 5 of 5

This has been the most delightful cabin we have rented thus far. It has all the creature comforts and modern amenities without sacrificing rustic charm. In spite of the hot weather, Marianne made sure that there was a swamp cooler in addition to the A/C and we were very cozy. The bed and day bed were the most comfortable we have ever slept in and the sofa swallows you up as you sip the wine you picked up from the nearby vineyards (corkscrew included). The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you would need, plus some. The decor is delightfully rustic and it soothed our city-slicker eyes.

Marianne's goats are great company, particularly Little Goat, who thinks he's a dog. They made us feel welcome and special and we played with them. We didn't know what to do with the horses, but they made for an idyllic aura.

The location is perfect for not only wine tasting and vineyard tours, but also the Big Trees park. It's less than an hour's drive to the South Grove of the park and you can make a day of it while still having enough time to enjoy the cabin. It worked out very well for us as we were dreading the crowds in Yosemite and the long drive to it and back from the Bay Area. We also enjoyed the Natural Bridges trail which is a few minutes away.

We really wished it were winter so that we could have had a fire going in the fire pit outside, and would love to come back then.

All in all, we thought we had the most enjoyable and authentic all-American July 4th weekend (we're Canadian and Indian); Clint Eastwood might have knocked on the door :-P !

An honest review of a rustic cabin on a beautiful rural property in Sonora

  • 4 of 5

Was the listing description accurate regarding the location, layout, amenities, etc? --Yes, however the wifi did not work because there was a storm during our stay. The surroundings were beautiful as can be and very quiet!

Was the property clean and well-maintained? The property could have been cleaner and better maintained. It was very dusty under the guest bed. The furniture was very rustic. The insulation was horrible. When the fire went out, it would get cold quickly. The landscape portion of the cottage could have been better maintained. The roof over the bedroom leaked water while it was raining. I am sure that will be fixed for the next rain. The kitchen was functional and was very well equipped.

Did the owner provide good customer service? Yes. She did her best in handling the leaky roof and making things right. Was the service a perfect 10? No. It was good. There is room for improvement. It is very hard to find excellent customer service these days.

Would you recommend this property to your friends or relatives? Yes I would. We had a fun, great, relaxing time. My 2 year old son loved the area and the animals. Would I recommend it for a couple looking for a romantic getaway? No. It was too rustic in our opinion.

What activities, attractions and restaurants did you like or dislike near by? Hiking, caverns, Railtown, and Columbia National Park. We did not eat at any restaurants. We went to the supermarket and cooked in the cabin which was fun.

Owner's Response: I'm very sorry about the leak, after a 4 year drought and then a record rain and cold that broke a fifty year record was a challenge . With two heaters and a wood stove , I will add even more. The bed was dusty underneath because they moved it I case of drips getting near the bedding. The dirt road ranch road is a challenge to keep dust away. The 250$ refund was not mentioned to make up for the rough stay at a rustic cabin. I did my best and everyone else has said the customer service is tops! I hop when anything is asked or any complaint given. But the fierce storm was something that won the challenge. I will in the future block out dates when extreme weather is expected. Fine Rustic hospitality but definitely not an in town city Hotel.
