Maison l'Escargot is the perfect place to relax and take life at a slow pace. It is located in the south of France not far from the atmospheric walled city of Carcassonne, in the heart of the traditional, small, circulade village of Tourouzelle. Tourouzelle is a quiet village, surrounded by vines in the wonderfully diverse region of the Languedoc Rouisillon. Beaches, lakes, rivers, mountains, pine woods and the tranquil Canal du Midi are all in close proximity.
The stone house has been sympathetically restored, retaining the original wooden beams and flagstone floor, and offers 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There is a comfortable, sunny lounge, well equipped kitchen and separate dining room. Outside there is a shady, walled, private courtyard providing an area for you to enjoy alfresco dining or just to relax after a day of sight seeing, wine-tasting or visiting the local, colourful markets. There is a barbecue for outdoor cooking.
Stone stairs curve up to the first floor where you will find a bedroom with twin beds and another with a double bed. There is also a family bathroom which has a washbasin, wc, bath and separate shower. Upstairs, on the second floor is the spacious master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom comprising washbasin, shower and wc. The wooden beams do slope in this room so you have to mind your head! There is a side door at the top of the landing which leads out into a quaint, sunny, roof top terrace where you have a wonderful view across the terracotta tiled rooftops to the church tower. This is a great place to enjoy your morning coffee and croissants or an evening drink.
Tourouzelle has a farm shop selling fresh, local produce as well as the owner's apples from the surrounding orchards. There is also a small epicerie and post office just two minutes from the house. Very close by (only 4 minutes by car) is a popular well stocked mini market selling fresh produce and all your daily needs with an artisan butchers department.
