Madalena House is a professionally managed, large (145 sm/1550 sq ft) 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment in a 200+year old building in the historic center of Lisbon that has rare architectural features making this a truly unique apartment to enjoy and explore historic Lisbon. It is configure to host 4 people. This is has been setup as our personal vacation home and as a vacation rental.

Madalena House has 1 meter thick stone walls and stone archways within this unique apartment with large open plan living and dining areas with the exposed traditional Pombaline-style wood structure that have been furnished to a very high and comfortable standard. Access to this apartment is via the ground floor entrance with just a few steps to the apartment. This apartment contains the following features:

− It is configured to sleep 4 people with 1 large king-sized master bedroom with en suite bathroom and a 2nd bedroom with 2 double beds and separate bathroom.

− The Living Room has a large sofa with 2 lounge chairs, 48” HD LED TV with 170 Cable Channels.

− The dining room has a large architect designed dining table that seats 8 comfortably.

− The apartment has high speed Fiber-Optic Wifi internet access, a new HP Photoshop Wifi printer and a separate small laundry room with washer/dryer.

− The Bedrooms have all towels, sheets, comforters, linens and a variety of pillows - all from the El Corte Ingles’ Primuvo brand.

− The kitchen is fully stocked for those that enjoy cooking and sampling the fresh local produce including such accessories as a Neospresso machine, a espresso coffee percolator, Bosch hand blender, WMF Cutlery, Zwilling cookware, Bosch Toaster, Microwave, Induction Stove Top and Oven, Dishwasher, separate refrigerator and freezer and a full range of related kitchen items.

− Other amenities include a new washer/dryer, cloths iron and ironing board, Miele vacuum cleaner, hair blow dryer and a Harmon Kardon Onyx (bluetooth, airplay, and DLNA enabled) sound system.

Madalena House welocmes dogs subject to an additional cleaning and security deposit.

Great Location and Spacious

This property is conveniently located in the Baxia District, but several streets away from the chaotic crowded section of Baxia. Stores, restaurants, sightseeing are all easily accessible. The property is furnished at a high standard. As a unique bonus, the owner has stocked the property with an excellent selection of personally curated Portuguese wines that are available to purchase at cost.

A fabulous roomy apartment in a central position. Perfect for two couples wanting separate bathrooms

Perfectly placed around the corner from Placa Figuiera, 200-yards from the lift to the castle and a good supermarket. The flat is on the first floor, spacious, clean and, being an original stone building, and cool. Rua de Madalena is busy so the front bedroom is not for light sleepers. Walk to Rossio Station to get the train to Sintra. The team to Belem starts in Placa Figueira and Team 28 is not much further. Restaurants galore, the problem is too much choice, so do some research. Cristina Dias could not have been more helpful.

The best VRBO apartment we have stayed in

Centrally located, impeccably clean, spacious, beautifully furnished, well appointed kitchen and bathrooms, charming and helpful manager, and responsive owner. I'm having a hard time thinking of any negatives. The short, curving flight of stairs from the ground floor lobby up to the apartment is a little tricky to navigate with luggage, but the manager was on hand to help. The front bedroom has traffic noise, but that's the price you pay for the wonderful location. When we come back to spend more time in Lisbon, we will definitely want to stay here.

It is all in the details...

This flat is just wonderful!

It is just as described ; An architectural gem. It is evidently a result of a carefully planed and well thought renovation. The place is exquisitely decorated designed in a modern style with taste great care in a way that does not interfere with the original old structure. It is surprisingly beautiful.

I was specially surprised by the high quality of all furnishings. I must mention that everything from pillows to sheets used on beds is on a noticeable high quality. We were as comfortable as in our own home.

We loved the well equipped kitchen, the beautiful cutlery and fine wine glasses amongst many other fine details that make all the difference and that are rarely found on vacation rentals.

The fabulous flat is ran impeccably by property manager Cristina who is thorough and professional as well as welcoming, warm and friendly.

We had a delightful stay and this will be the first place i check for availability next time I come to Lisbon!

Stunning spot

We stayed 3 nights at this location and had a wonderful time. It is as lovely as the photos show. The location is central to everything in Lisbon and the apartment has all the amenities you need. Cristina was lovely and answered all of our questions . We would definitely stay here again if we return to the city.

Bairro Alto, Lisbon

This is a wonderful apartment in a perfect location, easily accessible to excellent restaurants, Fado bars, historical sites and shopping. The apartment was well stocked -- all the amenities, Nespesso coffee maker, wine, washer/dryer, etc. Both the owner and house manager, Christina, were responsive to our email requests, and Christina was especially helpful, meeting us when we arrived, recommending things to do, making reservations for us, etc. Also, the security deposit was promptly returned, the day after we left. Would definitely rent this apartment again.

The apartment is located in an area called Baixa - the historic center of the city. It sits in a valley/plateau that lies between two hills. To the East of the apartment lies St George's Castle (the elevator is 200 meters away) and the historic but very hilly Alfama district (the oldest remaining part of Lisbon and the Moorish center with some great architectural examples). To the West of Baixa lies Chaido and Barrio Alto. Chaido has many international designer shops and Barrio Alto is the area where you will find over 100 bars & restaurants that pretty much runs all night long with a crowded and loud street life but fun to visit in the evening.

In Baixa you have the historic center that is being or has been renovated with many new boutique hotels, lots of outdoor restaurants and the new Design Museum (MUDE). There are also many shops (though not the exclusive designer stores that exist in Chiado). Each of these areas are very small in scale with their own unique character which makes walking around quite easy - though hilly in spots. You can walk from the East end (St George’s Tower) to the West Side (Barrio Alto) in 20-30 mins.

Santa Justa Elevator:

One of the city's best-loved landmarks and also known as the 'Elevator of Carmo,' this extraordinary structure was built at the turn of the century by the Portugal-born French architect Raoul de Mesnier du Ponsard (an apprentice of Gustave Eiffel, explaining the structure's similarities to Paris' Eiffel Tower), to connect downtown to Bairro Alto (the lowest and highest points of the city).
