Why Richard Harmon chose Lisbon

This is a very unique 200+year old apartment with nearly 1 meter thick stone walls that lies within an area called Baixa - the historic center of the city. We have furnished this to a very high standard for our own use and for our guests to enjoy. Located on the 1st floor with only a few steps via a grand entrance way.

What makes this apartment unique

An Architectural Gem in central historic Lisbon within easy walking distance to most of the major sites within historic Lisbon.

Map

Nearest Airport

Lisbon Airport - Taxi 15-20 euros
Car: not necessary

The apartment is located in an area called Baixa - the historic center of the city. It sits in a valley/plateau that lies between two hills. To the East of the apartment lies St George's Castle (the elevator is 200 meters away) and the historic but very hilly Alfama district (the oldest remaining part of Lisbon and the Moorish center with some great architectural examples). To the West of Baixa lies Chaido and Barrio Alto. Chaido has many international designer shops and Barrio Alto is the area where you will find over 100 bars & restaurants that pretty much runs all night long with a crowded and loud street life but fun to visit in the evening.

In Baixa you have the historic center that is being or has been renovated with many new boutique hotels, lots of outdoor restaurants and the new Design Museum (MUDE). There are also many shops (though not the exclusive designer stores that exist in Chiado). Each of these areas are very small in scale with their own unique character which makes walking around quite easy - though hilly in spots. You can walk from the East end (St George’s Tower) to the West Side (Barrio Alto) in 20-30 mins.

Santa Justa Elevator:

One of the city's best-loved landmarks and also known as the 'Elevator of Carmo,' this extraordinary structure was built at the turn of the century by the Portugal-born French architect Raoul de Mesnier du Ponsard (an apprentice of Gustave Eiffel, explaining the structure's similarities to Paris' Eiffel Tower), to connect downtown to Bairro Alto (the lowest and highest points of the city).

Very spacious flat

  • 4 of 5

This flat had most of what you'd want in a 2 bedroom 2 bath unit. My only suggestion is to install a wand in the second shower along with better towels and more towels and towel racks in the second bathroom. Hooks for towels are inferior for getting the towel to dry. Cristina was wonderful and our short 2 night stay worked out very well. It's a good location and very comfortable. The hand selected wine provided for very reasonable prices was a welcome addition.

Very clean and spacious apartment in great location between the two hills.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week staying in this apartment.

We had plenty of room with our six year old. The place was very clean and had an exceptional breeze through the space (air conditioning worked fine when it was needed, but we did not use it during the day because of the great cross ventilation).

We were not sure about the location but found it to be very convenient and quieter than expected. The apartment is a nice walk to everything between the two hills.

Check in and out was very quick and smooth.

We recommend this for a stay in Lisbon.

Perfect location, great apartment

  • 5 of 5

As two retired couples, we stayed eight days and had a great time. The location was perfect for using the public transit, trains, metro, trams and buses; nice grocery store; pastry shops for breakfast; restaurants; and just plan walking around.

The apartment had plenty of room with everything you could want. Didn't need to take advantage of the electronics provided or the fully equipped kitchen, but it was well stocked in the event we did want to cook.

First time in Portugal and would like to come back, if so I would definitely try and rent this apt again.

Loved the Apartment

  • 5 of 5

Spent 3 nights in this rental in Lisbon. Looked like the pictures. Cristina, the apartment manager, met us at the place & explained usage. The furnishings in the place were very nice.

An issue during our stay, but shouldn't stop people from renting - we had 90 degree weather while we were there & there is only air conditioning in the master bedroom. The evenings didn't even cool down enough to open the windows for a cross draft. The other bedroom where my daughter was was very warm at night - they used the portable fan but said it was too loud to sleep by. We were comfortable in the master bedroom with the A/C.

Also to be noted, the apartment is on a fairly steep street so be aware if you have trouble walking up hill. Ok for us but might be an issue for others.

Other than the heat (which is beyond the owners control) we enjoyed the apartment very much.

Great Place to Stay In Lisbon

  • 5 of 5

Was a wonderful place to stay. Visit went smoothly from meeting with the property manage until our departure. We shared the apartment with my wife's sister and husband. They had nothing to say except great stay at a terrific location. Would return again if the opportunity presented itself.

Thank you Richard.
