About Richard Harmon
We are Americans working and living in London. My wife is an academic and I work for a global software company. We love Lisbon for its long and rich history, great architecture, good food, wonderful climate, affordability and the friendly people. It is truly a great place to explore, enjoy and relax.

Why Richard Harmon chose Lisbon Old Town
This is a very unique 200+year old apartment with nearly 1 meter thick stone walls that lies within an area called Baixa - the historic center of the city. We have furnished this to a very high standard for our own use and for our guests to enjoy. Located on the 1st floor with only a few steps via a grand entrance way.
What makes this Apartment unique

This is a lovely, breezy apartment in a great location for getting around Lisbon. We loved how spacious it was after staying in many cramped city apartments around Europe, and we loved the great wifi, comfortable furnishings, and modern conveniences, like a washer/dryer combo that actually works well! Highly recommend--there are a few stairs inside the front door, so my only caution would be more the mobility impaired. Otherwise, a perfect Lisbon rental!
The only thing wrong with this place is that it is not ours!! We loved our stay. Conveniently located. Great host!
We loved our stay in Richard's apartment. Cristina the property manager was extremely helpful, very responsive to our requests, and made check-in seamless. The apartment is nicely decorated, very clean, and has all of the amenities. It is ideally located to be able to really appreciate Lisbon - close to all of the neighbourhoods, the waterfront, restaurants, shopping - everything you need to enjoy this beautiful city. The restaurant recommendations were all excellent. We were able to get to a few in the area, and both were very good. We will definitely return some day to this beautiful apartment and wonderful city.
As good as it gets.
We stayed at this property for 4 nights and had a great time. Spacious, clean, great global cable TV, and centrally located. Dozens of restaurants within a 10 minute walk. Owner even had bottles of wine at very reasonable prices. We are coming back.
Wonderfully spacious and secure, comfortable.
Toilet are a bit tight for more “full body” individual. Easy walk up to apt. Great city location!!
This apartment is perfectly located, walking distance to many attractions. Close elevator ride up to castle. Close to trains. Coffee and wine was available. Grocery store a few steps away. Apartment was very comfortable and clean. I would definitely stay here again if I return to Lisbon. Owner and caretaker were so helpful , Thanks so much
The apartment is located in an area called Baixa - the historic center of the city. It sits in a valley/plateau that lies between two hills. To the East of the apartment lies St George's Castle (the elevator is 200 meters away) and the historic but very hilly Alfama district (the oldest remaining part of Lisbon and the Moorish center with some great architectural examples). To the West of Baixa lies Chaido and Barrio Alto. Chaido has many international designer shops and Barrio Alto is the area where you will find over 100 bars & restaurants that pretty much runs all night long with a crowded and loud street life but fun to visit in the evening.
In Baixa you have the historic center that is being or has been renovated with many new boutique hotels, lots of outdoor restaurants and the new Design Museum (MUDE). There are also many shops (though not the exclusive designer stores that exist in Chiado). Each of these areas are very small in scale with their own unique character which makes walking around quite easy - though hilly in spots. You can walk from the East end (St George’s Tower) to the West Side (Barrio Alto) in 20-30 mins.
Santa Justa Elevator:
One of the city's best-loved landmarks and also known as the 'Elevator of Carmo,' this extraordinary structure was built at the turn of the century by the Portugal-born French architect Raoul de Mesnier du Ponsard (an apprentice of Gustave Eiffel, explaining the structure's similarities to Paris' Eiffel Tower), to connect downtown to Bairro Alto (the lowest and highest points of the city).
