About Carolyn and Keith Dowdy

We purchased this beautiful log home as a vacation home to share with our friends and large family. My husband and I live in Apex North Carolina, a 3 hour car ride from the cabin. We enjoy spending time at the cabin with our four children and extended family. We enjoy renting out the cabin for others to enjoy when we can't be there. We hope you enjoy the place and make your own special memories.

Why Carolyn and Keith Dowdy chose Blue Ridge Mountains

We chose to purchase the property because of its location in the mountains for its year around enjoyment. The roads are also easy to manuver and you don't need a 4x4 to get to this property. We enjoy the 3,000 ft altitude in the summer giving us a perfect average temperature in the summer of 75F. The fall is amazing with the changing of the leaves. Winter brings the holiday season with many Christmas tree farms in the area and shops dedicated to all the trimmings of the season. Appalachian Ski Mountain is the closest ski resort at about 30 miles. Spring is a perfect time to see all the beautiful flowers and Mountain Laurel. Golfing in the area is available in the warmer months.

What makes this cabin unique

The North Carolina mountains are unique and attract visitors from all over the world for its natural beauty of its people and landscape.

Very secluded cabin where you can only hear the sound of the stream at the bottom of the hill.

Roaring Gap, NC

Wonderful home in a great location. Within 10 minutes of grocery, restaurants and shops.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay; relaxing, playing games, canoeing and shopping. Relaxing on the porch while listening to the river was very nice. We were unable to use the fire pit due to the landscape which proved to be a bit too difficult for some of our family members to navigate.

The cabin is beautiful and very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped for 'vacation' meals. We hope to rent this home again in the future!

Enjoyed Our Stay

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a cabin we could enjoy spending time in, since we knew we would not be on the go our entire long weekend. I wanted seclusion, a nice porch, newer interior and pleasing décor, and I was hoping to have an accessible creek and yard for our children. This cabin met all these criteria. We especially enjoyed the porch, the big grassy yard, and the creek.

The cabin was not so secluded we felt unsafe or in the middle of nowhere, but was separated from neighbors by plenty of space and woods. The neighborhood road leading to the house is gravel, but not at all challenging to drive or to park at the house. We were only about 10 minutes from the BR Parkway and less than 10 minutes from W. Jefferson where there were restaurants and a grocery store. I prepared several meals in the cabin and found all I needed to do so. We used the kitchen table indoors which has many windows around it, as well as the patio table on the porch.

Neither a plus or a minus, just contingent on guests' circumstances is the cabin floor plan. A bedroom and bathroom, the main porch, and the kitchen are all accessible without traversing any stairs, including entering from the parking area. This is the main floor. The lower level has another bedroom, bath, and the living area with seating and TV. The upper level has a bedroom and bath.

The cabin provided a rustic feel in natural surroundings with Wi-Fi and Netflix easily available. Catherine was extremely responsive and helpful with minor questions we had and went an extra step to provide us with suggested places to visit. Overall, we were very pleased with our accommodations.
