About Brian & Sheila Baker
We currently work with Shared Lives South West caring for disadvantaged people. we have a 5 acre smallholding, of which one field has been laid to woodland in which the Yurt stands this therefore provides an ideal quiet location to escape from the modern stresses yet still be only a short distance from the towns of Penzance and Helston. we love living here and we hope you will share or enjoyment of this beautiful area.
Brian & Sheila Baker purchased this Cabin in 2015
Why Brian & Sheila Baker chose Saint Hilary
The field has been planted to woodland for a few years now and we want it to be a wildlife sanctuary with a large pond at its center which attracts many forms of wildlife from insects to birds and animals. the yurt is the only accommodation in the field so provides a unique opportunity to enjoy the tranquility of the area and a good deal of privacy too.
What makes this Cabin unique
The site offers many benefits as listed above but we also have a playground in the woods which we have built and the guests are welcome to use this too but it must be understood that this is at their own risk and we recommend that parents accompany children at all times. We take no responsibility for any injuries or accidents whist using the playground.

Amazing! We will be back!
Wowsers what can I say? We have just got back from a lovely week away in this fantastic yurt! Everything that was needed was there! Kids loved the play area especially the mud kitchen! The secret sitting area by the pond is lovely early in the morning or last thing at night with either a coffee or glass of wine. The dog loved being able to roam around and have a good sniff of everything. There was plenty of room for the 4 of us and our dog. Would of happily stayed for 2 weeks! (Maybe next year) loved the welcome package you gave us it was delicious. Everything was clean and tidy, the double bed was a delight, the washing facilities were spotless and the shower is amazing. Children loved feeding the animals with you. Don't change anything it's perfect!! Thank you for making our yearly Cornwall holiday one we will never forget. Thank you X
So glad you enjoyed your stay and we would welcome you back again anytime. I know school is an issue but May and June are lovely here with lots of wild flowers in the woods. Thanks for such a lovely review, it means a lot to us and confirms to us that we are getting things right.

Ideal for a peaceful family holiday
Great location for exploring north and south Cornwall, including St.Ives (a short and scenic train ride from nearby station). Very friendly and accommodating hosts, our kids really enjoyed playing in the woods and on the zip-wire and pirate ship. Yurt is large and well-equipped but dry weather is a real advantage so you can sit outside and cook on the bbq. Local shop for essentials but best to take food if you can and use fridge/freezer, don't bring eggs though, they're available on demand from the chickens next door!
A Mongolian Yurt in a perfect setting a little bit of Cornish heaven
We spent two and a half weeks in the Bakers yurt had a great time surfing the local beaches but the high point for the two boys was Brian setting us up with a tumble dryer drum" FIRE PIT" so every evening was spent sat in front of the fire .
If you like camping and don`t mind the inconvenience of not having dishwashers and the shower and toilet being a 30 metre walk from the yurt then i would really recommend it.. The shower and toilet block were really clean and the tumble dryer and washing machine were really usefull no shortage of hot water either.
The only negative i can write is the cooking facilities and i can see why you only have an electric hotplate and oven, as a gas cooker in a canvas tent is a fire risk .You can cook but it just takes a bit more time and some careful planning .There is however an old bbq grill tray that fits the lid of the tumble dryer so load up the drum with wood and then chuck on some charcoal briquettes and have a real outdoor cook off.
Brian and Sheila were very welcoming and i would recommend the "BAKERS YURTIS" to anyone who fancies a getaway in West Cornwall. You are in the middle of rural Cornwall yet only 10 to 15 minutes from Penzance, Hayle,Helston and St,Ives..And only 5 minutes from one of the nicest beaches in the area at Perranuthnoe
Whilst St Hilary Parish is a beautifully rural area, it is also rich in Cornish history. From picturesque fishing coves with ideal bays for swimming, to remnants of Cornwall’s mining history. Prussia Cove is renowned for its history as a smugglers cove. John Carter, with his brothers regularly unloaded their goods here, and at low tide the wagon tracks can still be seen across the rocks.
St Hilary church is both beautiful and rich in history and well worth a visit. Dating from 1853 the church suffered from fire in 1855 but much of the original survived.
There is of course the renowned coastal footpath which provides a fantastic walk and beautiful yet dramatic scenery.
Cornwall is also famous for its high quality ales and ciders, they are well worth sampling and there are plenty pubs and restaurants in which to do so. Nearby pubs are The Crown and the Trevelyan Arms in Goldsithney and the Falmouth Packet Inn in Rosudgeon, all about 1 mile for the Yurt.
Penzance is only six miles west of us and has a great deal of historic stories to tell, for example this is where the first information was received in England that Lord Nelson had met his end at sea.
Helston, home of "The Floral Dance" is eight miles east. Both towns are well furnished with small independent shops providing a wide range of goods and mementoes for the holidaymaker.
The Eden Project is a half hour drive, The Minack Theatre is also quite close, about twenty minutes drive. and the city of Truro is also only half an hour away, with its many shops and cathedral.
On our farm we have various features which may be of interest as we have a small workshop where one can do a little pottery or painting along with other crafts by prior arrangement.
There is much to do and see here and the tranquil setting of the yurt will ensure that you can relax and re-charge your batteries when you need to.
