Excellent stay at Island Fever!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned yesterday from a wonderful trip to St. John! We wanted to completely unplug and relax, but also wanted creature comforts of home without hauling everything with us from PA...we found all of this and more at Island Fever! From the start, Tammy provided lots of good information and easy processing during the reservation process. She was super accommodating and answered lots of questions, as we have never rented a house before through VRBO. Accomodations were exactly as presented, with a lot of extras that made our stay pleasant and comfortable. We loved the loft bedroom and outside enclosed gazebo bedroom. Having the market at the bottom of the driveway was super...we enjoyed grilling and eating on the deck while enjoying the sea breeze. Loved the extra books and games in the evenings, and loved the central point for exploring the Southeast and East End beaches and trails. Loved Salt Pond Bay and Brown Bay (trail and beach).

Thank you Tammy for a wonderful stay at your lovely "home away from home"! We look forward to returning.

Basic comfort garanteed

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the cottage during Christmas week in 2015. The price was reasonable for this time and we got everything we needed, with some extras. The cottage was clean with a unique artistic touch, king bed in the loaf was comfortable, kitchen was renovated with all new appliances, separated bathroom provided a good hot shower. The queen bed in gazebo was great but with some access to mosquitoes, so we used a mosquito net to avoid baits at night. Extras included snorkeling gear, double kayak, modern TV-settings and good Wifi connection. Parking across the street seemed more easy for us than that on the hill. There is a bus stop across the street, which may be useful for tourists without car. The next-door location of the Calabash grocery store and close location of restaurants were very convenient. Our preferred restaurants at Coral Bay were Aqua Bistro (short drive) and Shipwreck Landing (walking distance). Despite very high humidity due to frequent night showers and a few light rains at daytime, we had a good time on the island, enjoying snorkeling form dozen locations that are within 5 to 30 min drive from the cottage. Our preferred snorkeling places included Waterlemon Cay/Leinster Bay, Honeymoon&Caneel Bay, Trunk Bay, Cinnamon Bay, Salt Pond Bay. The 1-day trip on Bed Kitty from Cruz Bay to 5 British Virgin Islands was a great addition to our 7-day stay at St John. We are very grateful to our very friendly hosts Tammy and Marry for their assistance and advices.

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

This house was a terrific example of an island vacation house. I felt like we were living in a treehouse for the week! The different levels could be challenging for an older adult who is not in decent physical condition but otherwise it was fine. Well stocked kitchen was appreciated. Cooked in it every day. My husband went fishing at the beach across the street with the kayak daily. Also was convenient being right next door to grocery store. Family that owns store was kind and helpful. Only negative were the mosquitos. My husband and I only had about a dozen bug bites each by the end of the week but for some reason our kids were covered. Even with bug spray and avoiding outdoors in the evening. By the end of the week my youngest son had 75 bug bites and my oldest son had 45. We noted that sleeping in the gazebo seemed to make for less bug bites overnight. My husband and I would absolutely stay again at this house but could not take the children again because of the bug issue. Otherwise an absolutely fantastic rental property for the price.

Clean, Fun Space!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is beautiful. The cook's kitchen had all new appliances, the living area was comfortable and clean. They provided more than enough towels and other necessities to make our stay very comfortable. There are plenty of nice touches here: the island artwork, the many books and CD's, beautiful wood and stone work, arched doorways leading out to the deck(s). The King bed upstairs was comfortable, albeit a bit tricky to come down from there initially, it was something that I quickly overcame. Listening to the ocean at night is so relaxing! The separated bathroom was clean and the shower was wonderful. Our daughter and her boyfriend stayed with us for a few days and slept in the separate tiki hut, which was their private oasis. Outside that space is another deck and a hammock. The cottage is located immediately adjacent to the Calabash grocery store, so that was very convenient. Parking was available on the hill by the house, but also across the street, which we found easier. Coral Bay is a few steps away and we enjoyed finding sea glass and other treasures on the beach. We were fortunate to meet the owners on our last day and they were super friendly and helpful. We wish we could have spent more time with them, but will meet again next year! Book this property and you won't be disappointed!

Calabash Boom

  • 4 of 5

Everything was clean and organized for my families visit to Calabash Boom pretty much everything that you needed! Tammy told us about the loft bedroom and the bathroom outside the main house before we got there. Although the house was adorable the ladder and the bathroom being outside would be the only issue I could see for some folks that may not be as agile especially in the middle of the night. The ladder could be dangerous. Also, sharing a driveway on such a step hill could be an issue. I think if I owned the property I would extend the driveway over to the right as you drive up so two cars could park side by side. I believe there would be enough room to fit both.

Other than that Calabash boom was perfect and Tammy made it so! We had lovely folks stay in the other house who said they didn't mind parking on the street since we were only going to be there one more day. That was very nice of them to accomodate us in that way. We worked it out! Thank you Tammy for making our trip to St. John awesome! We would love to come stay again in the very near future!
