I rented a unit at Lahaina Roads off VRBO for a much needed vacation. Not knowing what to expect, and finding the building lacked curb appeal, I held my breath as I opened the front door. It was beyond my expectations. I fell in love instantly. The ocean in front of me, the sound of the waves, the breeze, it was heaven. Then I discovered how convenient the location is -- I could walk everywhere, and two of the best restaurants on the island are at the end of the block. I watched the market, and when the right unit went up for sale, I bought it!

The perfect place...literally!

Looks too good to be true, but it is real! Waterfront with actual steps to the ocean, a pool and the most amazing sunsets. So close to everything in Lahaina and Kaanapali beach. Just 1 mile from the Lahaina Divers dive shop and boat dock...and a short ride to Black Rock beach (great public beach with cliff jumping). Owner was very responsive (thank you!) -- checked in via text on my arrival, during the week and was able give me a late checkout after a long day hiking the Pipiwai Trail and Waimoku Falls in Hana.

The good, the bad & everywhere in between

We stayed at unit 309 for 9 nights at the end May.

Overall we had a very enjoyable stay. However, there are some things that maybe would be helpful to people that are worth noting

All unit front doors open to the east & road side running west toward the ocean giving you beautiful ocean vistas from the lounge room.

Less than 10 mins walk to 4 restaurants as well as the Cannery Mall with a Safeway, some small stores & some fast food outlets. Walk another 5 minutes south to the pretty & secluded 'Baby Beach' , sheltered by a reef this is perfect for kids & anyone else who doesn't want waves. Towels, chairs & boogie boards can be found in the hall cupboard.

Continue south another 10 minutes will take you into the heart of Lahaina. Many shops & eateries there as well as the outlets & a foodland back one street.

The resorts at Ka'anapali can be reached by a bus ($4 return) from the cannery mall ( car park side) There is a little timetable stand there. There are also free resort shuttles that we thought might ask for a room number to board but they didn't.

Across the main road from the Cannery is another mall with a few shops & a great burger joint ' teds big burgers' - find it at the far end near food farms I think it's called. ( not to be confused with food land in main town)

Parking: find a space & park in it! You have to register your rego with the building manager, Mike.

As you enter the front door, the bedroom is to the right. Good size bed with adequate mirror robes.

You window is wide & high above the bed facing the road. There are no curtains on the windows. This is a disadvantage as the sun rises & shines in & reflects off the mirror robes. We found some chair covers in the laundry & hung them to try combat this. Fan in the bedroom and an additional pedestal fan.

Hall cupboard housing the beach stuff & safe box. (unfortunately we couldn't open it)

Bathroom: Great size & modernized. Lovely soft towels. Water pressure sufficient.

Point to note: we found the toilet LOW almost like a kids loo. Also there is a step UP to the shower - it's raised on a platform a tile and a half high. Unfortunately this was awkward for me as I have very bad knees & made getting out the shower a challenge.

Lounge was nice & we spent a few nights on the sofa bed.

Kitchen sufficient but not finished to a high standard.

Pool was warm. Waves loud!

Cleaning: overall clean but we found empty beer cans in the kitchen & other stuff.

Out of space to comment!

Peaceful but close to everything!

Had a wonderful time at Lahaina Roads. The complex is small (only 39 units) so never overcrowded as far as parking or the pool. The unit was clean and was well equipped. The views are spectacular and we watched the whales off in the distance from the balcony as we drank our morning coffee. The bedroom is on the street side, so a bit noisy from traffic if you try and sleep with the windows open, so we kept them closed and turned the oscillating fan on for background noise- and to keep the room cooler since there appears to be no AC in the building. Having a washer and dryer in the unit is a definite plus if you are staying for more than a few days. Overall, we give it an A rating! We would stay here again for sure!

The view is to die for!!

We really enjoyed our stay. The unit is exactly how the pictures showed, the view is truly exceptional. You can walk to some amazing restaurants just down the street and downtown Lahaina is also very close. The complex is very well maintained with a very nice man cleaning day and night. The pool is the perfect temperature and not overly chlorinated. We saw turtles just off the rock wall and whales in the distance! I do concur with a previous review saying parking is tight - so maybe just keep that in mind if getting a rental car. It is also true the unit does not have AC but we didn't find that to be an issue whatsoever (we were here in Feb). I highly recommend this home - we had a wonderful stay!

Amazing oceanfront condo in Lahaina!

We had a great stay in unit 309! We are a family of three (11 y/o boy) and came to Maui to celebrate my 40th birthday. The condo was a great home base for exploring the island and the perfect spot to enjoy the pool and watch the sunset after a day of play.

The condo is well appointed. You'll find everything you need to make a simple meal or spend a day at the beach. There aren't a lot of extras, but that's OK. The grounds are impeccably maintained. The manager was onsite seemingly all the time and obviously working hard to keep the place in ship shape and the guests happy.

The vibe at Lahaina Roads is definitely older. There seemed to be a large group of owners there the week were there. They were super nice and friendly, and seem to be a tight community with each other. The only reason I call out "older" is because we had a kid with us. He was the only kid and we were careful to remind him of the pool rules. He was great about it but if you have kids with you that would have a hard time refraining from shouting and splashing (understandable!) then maybe this isn't the place for you. Nobody threw us any shade about our kid though. Everyone was very nice.

One thing some people may want to be aware of...the beds have very firm mattresses. Of course lots of folks love a firm mattress! My in-laws are crazy about 'em! It just so happens that it was a bit unlucky for us. We did not sleep super well during our stay. But again, if you love a firmer mattress, you will be happy.

Amazing ocean view, lovely grounds, close to everything, walking distance to some great restaurants - this place has so much going for it. I have already recommended it to friends and will continue to do so! Thank you!

Beautiful Ocean View!

This condo has a stunning view overlooking the ocean. It is in a great location within walking distance of a grocery store and good restaurants and a longer walk to downtown Lahaina. It has everything you need for a day at the including beach chairs and towels, umbrella and cooler. The condo itself also comes we'll equipped. The pool is great and also ocean front. It is a smaller condo but a great size for two of us. Overall a great stay here and just a wonderful view to wake up to every morning.
