About this property

Yenworthy Cottage, Countisbury

Yenworthy Cottage is part of Yenworthy Farm. Set in a spectacular location on the northern slopes of Exmoor National Park, a few hundred yards from the coast and with views of the Bristol Channel. The Farm is situated in ‘Doone Country’, and actually appears in the novel itself. The gun which was supposedly used to repel the ‘Doones’ still hangs in the farmhouse to this day. It was refurbished and re-furnished in 2016 to offer a high standard of accommodation.

A haven for wildlife, it has four Sites of Special Scientific Interest. There are rare species of butterflies and trees, large areas of heather moorland and impressive cliff geology.

Entrance to the property is via the large porch into the hallway, both providing plenty of space for wellies and walking boots! The sitting/dining room has two comfortable sofas, wood-burner and dining table with six chairs. The kitchen is on the opposite side of the hall and has recently been fitted with all new appliances and has a smaller dining table with four chairs and extra stools. The back door from the kitchen leads down some steps to an enclosed courtyard, an ideal spot to let the dogs dry off or cool down, depending on the season. There is also a pretty garden to the side and front with outside seating. The stairway from the entrance hall leads up to the two twin bedrooms on the first floor. Up a narrow staircase to the second floor is the master bedroom with King-sized bed and en-suite with of shower, toilet and hand basin.

This cottage is in the most idilic and peaceful location, where the only noise you can hear are the birds and the odd fly! Great walking from your door step so perfect if you have dogs. Good access to all other areas of Exmoor too, so a great base for a holiday.

The cottage is delightful, with good quality white goods in the kitchen, ample supply of mugs and a big teapot, comfortable beds upstairs and dog-friendly carpets downstairs! It was clean and warm when we arrived and Hazel made us very welcome. Wonderful location for walking or exploring, and with two dogs we really appreciated the invitation to walk the farm fields (where all the gates and footpath signs were well maintained). We were blessed with good weather which was an added bonus, enjoyed watching the buzzards overhead and seeing a hedgehog one evening. We would love to come again another time and will definitely recommend Yenworthy to friends.

We had a lovely family week (with teenagers and two dogs) walking and exploring the local area and Exmoor generally. The cottage was the perfect base; so warm and cosy (such thick stone walls!), plentiful supplies of hot water, excellent cooking and bathroom facilities and a lovely sitting/dining room. We very much appreciated being able to take the dogs on walks through all the farm fields. The stunning scenery and coastal outlooks were enhanced by several days of lovely autumnal sunshine. We will heartily recommend Yenworthy to friends. Many thanks!
